The Time is Already Here For Devin Haney And Shakur Stevenson Agree To Fight Under One Major Condition

Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney could be set for a major showdown.

Stevenson is the current WBC lightweight champion, having made the latest defence of his belt last weekend when he defeated late replacement Josh Padley by ninth round stoppage.

Padley stepped in on fight week in place of original opponent Floyd Schofield, who was pulled from the bout by the British Boxing Board of Control due to illness.

Stevenson has previously held world honours at featherweight and super-featherweight, and claimed the vacant WBC strap at 135lb after previous champion Haney vacated the title.

Haney became undisputed champion at lightweight, defeating the likes of Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos before moving up to 140lbs.

He became WBC super-lightweight champion with a victory over Regis Prograis, but in his next fight was dropped multiple times in an upset loss to Ryan Garcia, though that result was changed to a no contest after Garcia failed a drugs test.

Haney is now set to return to take on Jose Ramirez in May, where a victory could set up a rematch with Garcia, provided that ‘King Ryan’ defeats Rolly Romero on the same card.

Despite appearing to be on a collision course with Garcia, that hasn’t stopped Haney being linked to a fight with Stevenson, and Shakur took to social media to respond to a fan asking if Saudi Arabia, namely Riyadh Season, ‘puts up enough cash’ would he make fights with Haney or Gervonta Davis happen.

While Davis didn’t acknowledge the message from Stevenson, Haney was quick to offer his reply.

One stumbling block for a potential clash could be what weight the fight is contested at, with Haney set for a move to 147 after just two fights at 140. Stevenson is unlikely to go higher than 140 to make it happen.
