United Cup in Sydney: How Coco Gauff Is Cementing Her Status as a Top Tennis Player Following Her Latest Title with the U.S

Coco Gauff cemented her place as one of tennis’ most exciting young stars as she led the United States to victory in the 2025 United Cup in Sydney, playing a key role in clinching the title. The 20-year-old world number three delivered a clinical performance over Iga Świątek in the opening women’s singles match, setting the tone for a thrilling final.

Gauff’s 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Świątek was not just a crucial win for the U.S. but also a testament to her remarkable rise in the sport. This victory marked her second consecutive win over the Polish star, having also defeated her in the WTA Finals in Riyadh just two months ago. Świątek, struggling with a recurring thigh injury, called for a medical timeout at 5-4 down in the second set. However, the injury plagued her throughout the match, and she ultimately left the court in tears, visibly distressed by the loss.

After the match, Gauff reflected on her growing belief in her ability to compete at the highest level. “I think I have the belief that I am one of the best players in the world. When I play good tennis, it’s hard for me to be beaten,” she said, a comment that spoke volumes about her confidence and her ability to rise to the occasion.

Not only did Gauff remain undefeated in singles and doubles throughout the event, but her composure under pressure was evident as she helped her team secure the first point of the final. “Today I think I played great tennis, and I’m happy to get a point for my team on the board,” Gauff added. “It was tough today. I’m not gonna lie.”

Her performance was a far cry from the vulnerability we sometimes see in younger players. Gauff has now firmly established herself as one of the top players in the game, and her ability to handle such pressure, especially in a team event like the United Cup, demonstrates her maturity.

After Gauff’s victory, it was up to Taylor Fritz to seal the deal for the U.S. in the men’s singles, and while the task seemed monumental, Fritz rose to the occasion. His 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4) win over Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz wrapped up the title for the U.S. with a tense third-set tie-break. Fritz dug deep when it mattered most, especially at 3-3 in the tie-break, hitting clutch shots to help the Americans secure a 2-0 win in the final.

The win marked a back-to-back United Cup title for the United States, adding another chapter to their dominance in this mixed team event. While Fritz’s triumph was certainly notable, it was Gauff’s clinical and dominant play that set the foundation for the U.S. victory.

Coco gauff

Coco Gauff’s rapid rise to prominence is not just an exciting story for American tennis; it is an inspiring narrative for the entire tennis world. From a teenager thrust into the spotlight, Gauff has blossomed into a player whose talent is now matched by her mental fortitude. Her win over Świątek at the United Cup, a player she now has a winning record against, speaks volumes about Gauff’s readiness to challenge the very best in the sport.

It’s not just about the victories she’s racking up—it’s about the way she plays the game. Gauff’s demeanor on court, her calm in the face of pressure, and her belief in her abilities make her one of the most intriguing players to watch as she heads into the Australian Open. If this performance is anything to go by, Gauff is not just a future star; she is one of the best players in the world right now, and her future is brighter than ever.

Watch live : Claressa Shields vs Danielle Perkins: Date, time, and how to watch the boxing fight

This weekend, Claressa Shields will attempt to increase her collection of heavyweight titles when she takes on Danielle Perkins in a clash that has been eagerly anticipated by boxing fans for some time

Shields will make the first defense of her WBC crown as she pursues the undisputed crown against the challenger, who is seeking her first world title.

Shields, a two-weight undisputed champion with a brilliant career so far, goes into the ring as the favorite to take the victory, but will also be wary of any possible danger in the event to be held at the Dort Financial Center in Detroit, Michigan.

The two-time Olympic champion Shields (15-0, 3 KOs) will look to keep her professional unbeaten streak alive in her hometown of Michigan against undefeated heavyweight contender Danielle Perkins.

The fight will be for Shields’ WBC heavyweight title and the WBO light heavyweight title, as well as the vacant WBA heavyweight title.

“I feel very blessed at this time in my life and career,” Shields said in a statement. “But make no mistake, every blessing came with blood, sweat and tears. My home in Flint helped shape me into the person I am today. That city, with all its struggles and strengths, built something in me that cannot be broken.

“Without Flint and the determination I developed there at an early age, I don’t know if I would be here today. I can’t wait for this homecoming event,” Claressa added.

While Perkins (5-0, 2 KOs), a native of Brooklyn, New York, won her last fight by unanimous decision over Christianne Fahey in July to become the top-ranked contender, Shields has taken note of this.

“Danielle Perkins is undefeated and a strong contender, but I’ve been fighting my whole life, not just in the ring,” said Shields. “Whether it’s in my personal life, in the amateur boxing ring or as a professional world champion, I just don’t fail. February 2 will be no different.”

Frustrated Over NCAA Absence Simone Biles’ Former Teammate Reveals Surprising Role With Florida Gators

June 28, 2024, was a huge day for Simone Biles, but for the 21-year-old gymnast, who’s basically like a sister to Suni Lee, it was a bit of a downer. They’ve got this close “sister” bond, always supporting each other, and it’s wild how much has changed since then. Almost a year later, she’s still dealing with some struggles, especially with the NCAA gymnastics scene kicking off back in January. Despite being a 2021 World bronze medalist and the 2023 Pan American Games all-around champ, she didn’t make it to the NCAA. It’s kind of hard to believe, right? What’s holding her back?

Simone Biles’ former teammate from the Tokyo Olympics, Kayla DiCello, had big hopes of making the Paris Olympics last year. As a reserve athlete at the Tokyo 2020 Games, she was aiming for a spot at the U.S. Olympic Trials. But right before Simone even started her uneven bars routine, disaster struck for Kayla. While attempting her vault, she tore her right Achilles just feet away from Simone and had to be carried off the mat and wheeled out of the competition. That moment ended her dream of joining Simone in Paris. It’s been a while now, though, and the big question is: how’s her recovery going? Let’s hear from her.

Will Kayla DiCello return to elite gymnastics after major setbacks?

University of Florida Gators gymnast Kayla DiCello maintains her aspiration to resume elite gymnastics while recuperating from her injury. Last year, the torn Achilles at the U.S. Olympic Trials kept Kayla from continuing her athletic activities. She underwent heel surgery to remove a heel bone spur in December 2024 after dealing with it for three full years.

Despite all her hurdles Kayla continues to keep the door open for returning to elite competition. The Olympics.com interview reveals Kayla has not settled on her next step while she concentrates on college gymnastics recovery and returning to competition status.

As for her recovery, Kayla says it’s going pretty well, although she admits she’s a little behind because of a recent surgery on her other foot. She’s working hard to get both feet on the same level so she can start jumping again. But at the same time, she’s also feeling frustrated about being absent from NCAA gymnastics, knowing that she’s not where she wants to be just yet.

Kayla DiCello has faced a lot of frustration with her recovery, especially as she’s had to sit out this season. “I was really upset because I couldn’t compete this year, but for me, I think getting the second surgery was something that eased my mind,” she shared. “Now, I feel like I don’t have the added outside pressure of ‘Am I going to compete this year?’ and all that.”

She concentrates on being an inspirational figure within her team because her belief is everyone plays a role irrespective of their responsibilities, “I believe that every single person on this team plays a part, no matter what you’re doing. I have just been trying to be somebody who anybody on the team can come to if they need anything.” But how is Gators performing in NCAA till now?

The big question about Simone Biles’ former teammate’s eligibility

The Florida Gators scored 198.125 points last week against Georgia whose coach is Simone Biles’ former coach. The 198 score became the initial standard that a team achieved in competition during the year 2025. The Gators delivered an outstanding display while Selena Harris-Miranda brought the win in the all-around competition with her personal best 39.625. The Florida team delivered exceptional performances on each apparatus as Harris-Miranda scored a 9.95 on the vault and the team achieved a 49.675 beam score which became a national top result. Freshman Skye Blakely entered the competition with a strong performance by tying with Anya Pilgrim for the bar championship at 9.90.

Florida’s coach, Jenny Rowland, was proud of the team’s resilience, especially with several athletes battling illness. The night was capped with a debut of the “Spurrier” leotard, honoring the legendary coach Steve Spurrier. This victory pushed the Gators to a 4-1 record (1-1 SEC), setting the stage for a challenging upcoming tri-meet against No. 5 Utah and West Virginia. With this performance, Florida is showing they’re ready for whatever challenges lie ahead. But with all eyes on their upcoming challenges, a big question looms: Will Kaylia DiCello be eligible to sit out another season due to her injury?

It’s definitely possible. Normally, gymnasts have four seasons in five years, but since she redshirted last year, that rule doesn’t really give her another year off. But wait, there’s a catch! If a gymnast competes in less than 30% of the season because of injury before the midway point, they can get a medical redshirt. And with Kaylia dealing with some injuries, she’s in a good spot to claim that. Plus, in special cases, gymnasts can even get up to six years of eligibility because of injury. So, while the choice is ultimately up to her, she’s got some flexibility. What do you think? Do you see her taking another season off, or is she going to push through? Let us know in the comments!

He Was Robbed,Oleksandr Usyk’s Team Finally Reacts To Tyson Fury’s Shock Retirement After Claiming He Was Robbed

Tyson Fury retired from the sport of boxing at age 36 this year following back-to-back losses against Oleksandr Usyk.

The big man from Morecambe is a two-time world heavyweight champion with statement wins over Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder. He fell short for the first time in his professional career in May of 2024, battling Usyk for the undisputed title

In the rematch, the Ukrainian put three of the four major belts on the line after vacating the IBF. He retained them with a unanimous decision, one which Fury branded a ‘robbery.’

Less than a month later, ‘The Gypsy King’ would announce he was to hang up the gloves, ending with a phrase highlighting daylight robbery.

“Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing, it has been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it and I’m going to end with this; Dick Turpin wore a mask.”

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Usyk’s longtime promoter Alex Krassyuk joked that it was the ‘seventh’ time the Brit had announced his retirement.

“I thought it was the seventh time. That was my personal calculation.”

Krassyuk went on to praise Fury and said that he believes fans will see him step through the ropes once more.

“It’s 50/50. He did sound serious, but I can’t be sure he’s out of the ring forever. That’s my personal opinion, my hunch, my feeling. I still can see him fighting. It can be anything, like money, something interesting.

“He’s a champion. He’s strong. He’s well loved and respected in the world of boxing. Why should he quit? I think after six, seven months, he will have a rest and he will probably change his mind.”

Tyson fury, Deontay wilder

Should Fury heavyweight return, he is widely expected to face Anthony Joshua after years of the fight marinating. As for Usyk, he has a keen eye on Daniel Dubois’ IBF title defence against Joseph Parker on February 22, with a match-up against the winner giving him a chance to become undisputed yet again.

‘The all time Most Avoided Heavyweight’ Has Been Told By Turki Alalshikh That He Will Fight Anthony Joshua Next

Anthony Joshua may have found his next opponent.

‘Anthony Joshua’ suffered a shock fifth round knockout defeat against newly crowned IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium last September, but has confirmed he will be making a return to the sport this year

It was heavily speculated that the 35-year-old would be facing Tyson Fury next until ‘The Gypsy King’ announced his retirement from boxing at the beginning of January.

The man standing opposite Joshua in his next contest could have just been revealed though, after a heavyweight powerhouse claimed he has had his next fight confirmed by Turki Alalshikh.

Martin Bakole has picked up 21 wins in 22 professional contests, securing 16 knockout victories in the process and is on a run of three stoppages all inside six rounds. His last outing came in August when he blasted out highly rated American prospect Jared Anderson inside five rounds.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Bakole – who has picked up the tag of the most avoided man in the division – revealed he has been advised by Alalshikh that his next fight will come against two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in Africa.

“I love that fight, and I would like to say thank you to [His] Excellency because he’s behind this. He said ‘Martin we have a big fight in America, finish with [Efe] Ajagba and then Anthony Joshua is next in Africa.’

“Even I heard Anthony Joshua said he needs to fight in Africa, so all he need was a promoter or someone to promote that fight. Between me and him in Africa that will be a good fight.”

Martin Bakole has also secured impressive wins against Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka in 2022 and Carlos Takam in 2023. His maiden career defeat came at the hands of Michael Hunter, who stopped him in the final round of their fight back in October 2018.

“He Ran From Me” Long Reigning World Champion Says Floyd Mayweather Refused To Face Him: “He Ran From Me”

In the eyes of many, Floyd Mayweather is one of, if not the greatest fighter in boxing history.

The 47-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan walked away from boxing in 2017 having won all 50 of his professional contests

He won world titles in five weight classes, defeating the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya throughout his incredible career.

There was one man, however, who has accused ‘Money’ of avoiding a fight with him. That man is Brazilian boxing legend and two-weight world champion Acelino Freitas, who is often regarded as one of the most underrated fighters of all time.

Freitas rose from a poverty-stricken childhood to become an accomplished fighter who captured world titles at lightweight and super featherweight, in a career that spanned 22-years.

Speaking in an interview with BoxingScene, ‘Popo’ spoke of how he believed Mayweather ‘ran’ from him during his campaign at super featherweight.

“So many were running from me when I made 10 defenses [of lightweight and super featherweight titles].

I wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather but he did not want to fight me. It was easier for these guys to run from me. You can’t blame them.”

Freitas lost on just two occasions throughout his 43-fight career. He defeated the likes of Joel Casamayor and Barry Jones during his tenure, but did fall short in his 2004 contest with the late-great Diego Corrales, suffering a tenth-round stoppage victory at the hands of ‘Chico’.

‘Popo’ retired from unofficially professional boxing in 2017, but has since had four exhibition contests in his native Brazil.

In Just 90 Seconds, Mike Tyson Ended The Career Of Undefeated Two Weight World Champion In Just 90 Seconds

During the height of his career, Mike Tyson quickly became known as ‘The Baddest Man On The Planet.’

Tyson’s ferociousness saw him win his first 19 professional fights by knockout, with 12 of them coming inside the very first round.

He still holds the record as the youngest world heavyweight champion in history at the age of 20 years, 4 months and 22 days, and reigned as undisputed champion from 1987 to 1990.

During his time inside the ring he stopped fighters such as Larry Holmes, Trevor Berbick, Frank Bruno and Tony Tubbs, but there was another fighter that ‘Iron Mike’ ended the career of after knocking him out in just 90 seconds.

In June 1988, Tyson defended his WBA, WBC and IBF titles against Michael Spinks, who was the Ring heavyweight champion at the time and had previously reigned as the undisputed light heavyweight champion.

Heading into the bout, the legendary Muhammad Ali had even tipped Spinks to defeat Tyson, but it certainly didn’t transpire that way, as ‘Iron Mike’ dropped Spinks twice to secure the destructive victory.

That turned out to be the final fight of Spinks’ career, who didn’t box again after the loss to Tyson, and he told Ring Magazine exactly how it felt to be in the ring with ‘Iron Mike.’

“He had good hand speed. That was one of his biggest assets. He had power and hand speed and that was hard to beat.

He knew how to get in real fast. That was one of his strengths too. He’d slide up on you real quick and get in the punches.

He was very strong. I don’t know what made him so strong. He was most definitely the biggest puncher I ever fought.”

While Tyson may have been the biggest puncher that Spinks fought, he also took on Larry Holmes on two occasions during his career, and he has revealed who he felt was the better fighter between Tyson and Holmes.

“It S**ks”- Team Benavidez Sets the Record Straight on Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford

The potential showdown between Terence Crawford and Canelo Álvarez in September in Las Vegas has got the boxing fans hooked. The reason, you ask? It’s because of the contrasting styles, ring IQs, and different weight classes. As anticipation for the match grows, opinions on the potential winner remain divided. And now, Jose Benavidez, the older brother of the WBC Interim Light Heavyweight, David Benavidez, has added his voice to the conversation.

The 32-year-old once faced Terence Crawford in a brutal knockout loss for the WBO welterweight title in 2018. Having seen Bud Crawford up close, he knows exactly what the 41-0, 31 KO boxer brings to the table. However, Jose Benavidez seems to have more reasons for making his prediction. He recalled how his younger brother never got the opportunity to fight Canelo, preventing him from showcasing his skills. Now that a potential showdown between Terence Crawford and Canelo Álvarez is on the horizon, Jose has already chosen his side. What did he say? Let’s find out.

Jose Benavidez thinks Terence Crawford is a beast

Jose Benavidez was recently seen in a press conference for the David Morrell vs. David Benavidez fight. In an interview with Fight Hub TV, he was asked about how the fight would unfold. And Jose Benavidez didn’t hold back and confidently stated, “I mean, like I said, Crawford. Crawford’s a fu***ng beast. He’s smart. He knows what he’s doing.”

While talking about the opponent, he acknowledged that while Canelo is the naturally bigger fighter, size alone doesn’t determine the outcome of a fight. He added, “Canelo, you know, I mean, he’s not that big of a guy. Obviously, he weighs more. But I mean, you can’t take nothing from Crawford. He goes in there and wins.”

Meanwhile, he also expressed disappointment for his younger brother. “You know it s**ks that my brother didn’t get that opportunity. Only Canelo knows why that didn’t happen. And he’s gotta keep moving forward, you know,” he lamented. As the interim super middleweight champion, Benavidez was Canelo Álvarez’s mandatory challenger. However, Canelo reportedly demanded an extremely high price for the fight. With no progress, Benavidez moved up a division and defeated Oleksandr Gvozdyk to win the interim light heavyweight title.

Moving forward, when pressed further about Terence Crawford’s fighting intelligence, Jose didn’t mince words. “The thing with him is he’s just a smart motherf***er, you know,” Benavidez said. He also highlighted Crawford’s ability to switch between southpaw and orthodox stances, making him unpredictable and dangerous. He further added that many fighters who faced the Mexican champion seem intimidated before the fight even begins, but he believes Crawford won’t have that mindset. “So Crawford is going there to win, he’s not going in there to fu***ng lose,” he predicted.

Though Benavidez believes in Crawford’s abilities, other analysts and boxers hold different opinions.

Mexican boxing legend Julio César Chávez has recently placed his bets on Canelo. He predicted a knockout in six or seven rounds. While Chávez acknowledges Terence Crawford’s skills, he is adamant that the 13-pound weight difference between the fighters will prove insurmountable. “Crawford is a good fighter but there’s weight classes,” the three-weight world champion explained.

In contrast, others like Jake Paul and Oleksandr Usyk have thrown their support behind Terence Crawford. ‘The Problem Child,’ speaking on the Ring Champs podcast, argued that Crawford’s versatility will give him an edge. Furthermore, he thinks “that Terrence has the skill and is a bit fresher than Canelo. If I had to put my money on it, I would probably go with Terence.”

Terence Crawford

Oleksandr Usyk, on the other hand, echoed similar sentiments. On The 3 Knockdown Rule podcast, the undefeated heavyweight champion praised Bud Crawford. “I like Terrence; it’s …my friend, but it’s crazy man. Listen, I… I say Terence win yes, …Terence win, but listen, Terence, it’s different, man. Terence work in two… two sides—right and left, but it’s very smart, man. It’s very, very very smart, but feel, distance, and the place…,” Usyk stated.

With both fighters at the top of their game, the predictions remain split. What is certain is that this fight will be one for the ages. Can Terence Crawford defy the odds and become the first to defeat Canelo in his prime? Do share your thoughts below!

“My Heart” Simone Biles’ Day Comes to Life as She Drops a Surprise for Someone Special: “My Heart”

“She’s this generation’s modern idol right now.” The massive words for Simone Biles came from someone who once introduced the world to a perfect Olympic milestone. 49 years ago, 14-year-old Nadia Comaneci claimed the first perfect ten in the Olympic gymnastics event. But when choosing an idol in the sport of twists and turns, the Romanian legend throws her weight on the Texas native. Two years ago, she took Simone’s name as the perfect idol for all the budding gymnasts. However, Nadia hardly knew that Biles could be an idol of any generation. How is that?

On January 31, the Simone Biles Invitational came to life. The 3-day gymnastics pomp kicked off with the qualification rounds of the Nastia Cup at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Simone, however, had already made her journey to the venue. In the wee hours of January 31, the Olympian shared a few snapshots on her Instagram story, decked up to attend the gymnastics show. But in the meantime, she revealed another special thing.

On January 31, Simone dropped another Instagram story, re-sharing an adorable clip. So, what did that clip have on display? It had a 3-year-old child making a hard-to-ignore request. What was that? Her words in the clip came out, “I need to call Sibone Miles now.” Meanwhile, she started to press a toy mobile phone’s fancy buttons to make a call to her idol, “Sibone.” Idol? Well, the caption of the actual clip held a caption of “POV: A 3-year-old’s phone call with her idol.” Hold on! The seven-time Olympic champion had a few more loving words to make the occasion a cherishable memory for all.

While re-sharing the clip on her Instagram story, Simone Biles wrote, “my heart [emoji] I got to meet sweet Sloan today!!!! she did her sassy [emoji] pose w/me! so adorable! DAY MADE” So, at last, Sloan had a chance to meet up with her idol. As per her mother, Alexandra K’s Instagram reel, Sloan has been feeling fandom over Simone since last year. Like how? Any special incident that made her Simone’s fan?

Well, Alexandra K’s post claimed, “Ever since @olympics last year and especially after we went to @goldoveramericatour she tells everyone, every single time we see them that she “saw Sibone Miles and she did a BIGGGGG flip.” So, the experience of watching Simone Biles in the Olympics and the GOAT tour made the 3-year-old her fan. But what about the urge to meet the most decorated gymnast in person? The loving mother had a cryptic answer on that part of her actual post.

In the caption, Alexandra K wrote, “If only she [Sloan] knew what was coming at the end of the month! Can you guess?” In the end, she tagged the World Champions Center’s Instagram handle with the post. And here are a few pieces of information to connect the dots. Such as?

Tyson Fury Delivers ‘Truthful’ Verdict On Whether Deontay Wilder Should Be Making His Comeback

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder will forever be intrinsically linked after what they went through in the ring together.

These two boxing stars and famously extrovert characters will go down in history for their epic trilogy from 2018 until 2021.

The first fight came shortly after Fury had returned to the ring following a long time out dealing with mental health and addiction issues. As such he was not at his previous world title-winning best, but still managed to box to a draw despite being knocked down in dramatic fashion in the 12th round.

The next two fights saw Fury switch up his approach and box on the front foot. He mauled and battered Wilder into submission twice, leaving him with the WBC belt which he eventually went on to lose to Oleksandr Uysk in 2023.

Wilder has fought three times since the final loss to Fury – once beating Robert Helenius, but then taking a points loss to Joseph Parker and a knockout defeat at the fists of Zhilei Zhang last June.

Following those loses many within the sport have called for ‘The Bronze Bomber’ to walk away, but he has confirmed his return with his comeback fight expected to take place in April.

Speaking to Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru & Henry, Fury was asked whether Wilder should should carry on his career or hang up the gloves for good.

“Being truthful I’d like to see poor old Deontay retire from boxing. When I beat Wilder he was 44-0 with 43 KOs and he KO’d the guy who went the distance with him in the rematch.

So that means he knocked out every single person he ever faced and obviously lost the three fights to me. We took a lot of years out of each other’s life.

Tyson fury

Even when he’s come back and had a couple of fights since, he’s only a shadow of his former glory. The only thing left about Deontay Wilder is his name.”

Unlike Wilder, Fury has decided to retire after back-to-back losses to Usyk.
