How much money did boxing legend Floyd Mayweather generate on Pay Per View throughout his remarkable boxing career?

World Boxing News has crunched the numbers regarding the actual takings Mayweather banked without taking anything away to make purse payments or event costs.

Mayweather amassed an incredible amount of cash throughout his career and continues totaling at least eight figures every time he steps into the ring. This will continue on August 24 when he fights John Gotti III in a rematch on Mexican soil.

Floyd Mayweather Gifts $30k to Group of Homeless Men

Floyd Mayweather’s career PPV earnings
There’s long been an insistence from his team or the media that ‘Floyd Mayweather is boxing’s first billion-dollar man.’ Well, WBN can reveal that this is undeniably not the case. Mayweather is at least the sport’s first Billion-Dollar Man three times over if you take all the money from every sale of his PPV fights and add it together.

Floyd Mayweather made $1.8 billion in sales in the United States alone. His three billion at the worldwide box office proves he’s on his own in the paid platform stakes. Pay Per View buys featuring the five-weight king since his debut on the platform in 2005 at an average purchase price of $75; you’d even come to numbers north of $1.8 billion in US revenue.

Then, if you consider Mayweather’s other career purses and contract factors, the amount easily surpasses the two-billion-dollar mark in the United States alone. Worldwide sales of every event in hundreds of countries certainly exceed three and possibly into four, depending on how deep you delve.

It’s quite a dumbfounding statistic, and Mayweather has at least one billion in his pocket. Floyd’s Showtime contract alone made over one billion dollars from 14 million total buys [if you include Conor McGregor]. – If you use these WBN quotes, please link back to the source: https://www.worldboxingnews.net/2024/07/30/floyd-mayweather-ppv-career-billions/

Mayweather’s money-making numbers
The numbers are staggering. Most of which can add another 500 to 800k for worldwide distribution. Nobody has been generating those numbers since the days of closed-circuit TV without the home box office angle.

If you consider that Mayweather took several breaks during his tenure, some lasting over a year, the final total could have been over five billion dollars. Mayweather is and was money, no matter how you look at it.

Next month, at the age of 47, Mayweather will do it again, knowing that he only has to promise the fans a fight to put another huge check in the safe. Despite his ‘Heist Tour’ failing to materialize, Mayweather doesn’t need it. He can pick and choose when and who he fights and still does not bat an eyelid when considering the figures.

Mayweather earns one million dollars for most of his press conference appearances, making him far and away the most lucrative boxer ever. –

On August 24, live from the Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City, boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr. returns with another exhibition, a rematch with John Gotti III. Their last fight ended in a stoppage, but a riot ensued inside and outside the ring. The rematch will be on PPV, and recently, PPV.com posted a price of $49.99 for the event.

Although this is much less than what other PPV events have cost consumers this year, it’s still a hard ask for fans to fork out even more money for a PPV event between a retired 47-year-old fighter in Mayweather, and a boxing novice like Gotti III.

It’s come full circle for trainer Joel Diaz inside the walls of his accomplished Indio, California, gym, from the burst of seeing the amazing talent of a young Terence Crawford, to the plotting of Crawford’s demise with Diaz’s junior-middleweight champion Israil Madrimov.

“It’s a very tough task. Terence Crawford is the best fighter pound-for-pound and very well-rounded. It’s an honor to work on a plan to beat him. We have a good strategy with a good fighter,” Diaz told ProBox TV.

Three-division champion Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) is seeking a fourth division title against World Boxing Association titleholder Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs) in Saturday’s main event at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, and victory has the potential to propel Crawford toward a date with four-division champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

Terence 'Bud' Crawford: Biography, record, fights and more - ESPN

While Diaz knows Nebraska’s Crawford maintains a clean-living lifestyle and possesses double-handed power, so does Uzbekistan’s Madrimov.

“You don’t know what to expect with Crawford, and Madrimov is the same way. They both dominate their stances from both [sides], so we’ve had good left-handers, right-handers, speed guys so we can be ready,” Diaz said. “We’ll expect Plan A, B and C versus Terence Crawford. We know [who] we’re stepping into the ring against.”

Indeed, it was a young Crawford, less than 10 fights into his pro career, who was sent to Indio by his then-manager Cameron Dunkin to train alongside another Dunkin fighter, eventual Hall of Fame two-division champion Timothy Bradley Jr.

Crawford was a breath-taking talent, flashing the skill that would carry him toward world titles at lightweight, to become undisputed 140-pound champion and then to sweep up all the welterweight belts, too, with his destructive ninth-round TKO of Errol Spence Jr. one year ago Monday.

But Diaz has also seen Madrimov’s rise, as an accomplished amateur with more than 300 bouts who wanted to make his pro debut against then-154-pound champion Jaime Munguia.

“He’s been 100 percent disciplined … he makes his opponents uncomfortable and it’s not going to be easy for Crawford,” Diaz said. “Israil is very confident.”

Crawford also turns 37 in September, and Madrimov walks around close to 175 pounds, so there’s age and size disadvantages for the accomplished champion to bridge here.

“Those who know boxing know what age does,” Diaz said. “Every camp has wear and tear.

“A lot of things give me hope. Crawford was great at 140. Now, he’s moving up to 154. Madrimov is a solid 154. We’ll see how Crawford’s punches affect him.”

It’s a theory founded in something they witnessed first hand, when Alvarez moved back to light-heavyweight and couldn’t bother Madrimov’s close friend and stablemate, unbeaten light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, in Bivol’s convincing 2022 triumph.

“Israil’s given me a lot of hopes he’ll come out victorious,” Diaz said.

Diaz spoke of Madrimov’s supreme athleticism. He’s a former gymnast who can also wrestle and fight in the martial arts.

“He gets stronger each round,” Diaz said. “He’s really smart and has a killer instinct.”

Reflecting on Diaz’s appearance, ProBox TV’s “Deep Waters” analyst Paulie Malignaggi said, “Joel Diaz knows how to bring the best out of a fighter. The threat of Madrimov is real.”

Fellow analyst Chris Algieri calls Madrimov “a tough out.

“Diaz just hammered home all of the points why – [Madrimov’s] switching of sides, the fluidity … when you speak of that discipline and experience, it makes the intrigue of this fight so much more.”

Novak Djokovic will be the favourite when they clash a

Rafael Nadal insists Novak Djokovic will be the favourite when they clash at the Paris Olympics, after the Spaniard battled to victory over Marton Fucsovics in the first round on Sunday. Nadal had left his participation in the singles in doubt until the last minute because of a thigh injury, and was made to work hard for his 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory. The 38-year-old — who has won 14 of his 22 Grand Slam titles on the clay of Roland Garros — believes old rival Djokovic will be favourite when they meet for the 60th time.

“Situations are completely different for him, for me. He’s being very competitive. I was not being very competitive for the last two years, so in that case, I think probably he is the clear favourite,” said Nadal, who holds an 8-2 head-to-head advantage over the Serb at Roland Garros.

“I’m going to try my best to bring the best to the court and then let’s see how far I can go and how many problems I can create for him.”

The latest chapter of a generation-defining rivalry, and perhaps the final act, will bring Nadal and Djokovic full circle — the duo having met as teenagers in their very first meeting in the 2006 Roland Garros quarter-finals.

Outside round-robin matches in the season-ending ATP Finals, their second-round encounter at the Olympics will be the earliest they have ever met at a tournament.

“It has always been super special to play against Novak, no doubt about that,” said Nadal. “But the difference is normally we have been playing for finals or for semi-finals.

“Of course, it’s an Olympics… every match is super special. But it’s true that at the same time, almost every single match that I played against Novak, I arrive at it with a different situation that I am today.

“So that makes the match more difficult for me and more unpredictable. But, I always have hope, I always believe.”

‘Fighting spirit’

Nadal, a singles gold medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and doubles champion at Rio four years later, is playing just his seventh tournament of 2024.

He reached the final in Bastad last weekend but suffered a setback in training on Wednesday, jeopardising his hopes of appearing at a fifth Olympics.

Nadal teamed up with Carlos Alcaraz in the doubles on Saturday, but he had his right thigh heavily bandaged as the pair won their first-round match in straight sets.

His leg sported similar strapping against Fucsovics, but Nadal said he was feeling “good”. “Bit tired, of course. I mean, a long match, but at the same time… it was a good test,” said Nadal.

“The good thing is I was able to play at a good level of tennis for a while. That always gives hope. And then (the) negative stuff is I was not able to hold that great level.”

Fucsovics suggested the Spaniard still had what it takes to beat Djokovic, who leads the career head-to-head 30-29.

“He was fighting until the end, so his fighting spirit is still at the top still, but he’s not at his best playing level,” said Fucsovics.

“But if he has a good day he can beat him (Djokovic) still.”

The path is clear for undefeated lightweight champions Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson to star in an all-American unification bout.

Following his emphatic knockout of Frank Martin to keep the WBA title, Davis promptly entered early talks with IBF Champion Vasiliy Lomachenko but the Ukrainian would later back out due to a lack of motivation to fight again this year.

Stevenson: "I'm Going To Be The Person To Expose Tank Davis"

Enter Stevenson, who has just come off a criticised but straightforward defence of his WBC strap against Artem Harutyunyan and has long been saying both Davis and Lomachenko are avoiding him. In theory, nothing stands in the way of the Davis fight now if both want it.

In an interview with the It Is What It Is podcast, Floyd Mayweather – who guided a large portion of ‘Tank’s career before a bitter split – singled out the two stars as the best in the division for very different reasons.

“You got guys fighting between 130, 135 and 160. They stacked around that area. As of right now, the two guys… The biggest puncher at 135 would probably be Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, but the most skullful fighter at 135 would be, hands down, Shakur Stevenson.”

Davis has beaten all but two opponents inside the distance with some of he most well-timed and devastating power punches in the sport. Stevenson has just a 45% knockout-to-win ratio but has, by the numbers, the best defence in the sport.

Asked if skills were enough to be the best without the power to keep opponents honest, Mayweather said yes.

“It’s really all about skills. Pernell Whitaker wasn’t a huge puncher, but he was very exciting, very tough and he fought everybody. Shakur’s tryna do the same thing. He want to fight the best they got out there. He’s asking can he fight the best. I believe his contract is coming to an end so hopefully we can come together and I can get him to the next level with the fights he needs, that he wants.”

Stevenson‘s team has had conversations with Mayweather since this interview and are also entertaining talks from Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom. Davis is with PBC, meaning there’s a chance he explores that side of the fence too.

‘Tank’s co-trainer, Kenny Ellis, has said that the only way the fight doesn’t happen next will be ‘fear’ on Shakur’s part.

Shakur Stevenson’s team is prepared to enter into negotiations with Gervonta Davis over a possible fight.

Davis was in talks to face Vasyl Lomachenko in a WBA and IBF lightweight world title unification clash this year.

All indications are that conversations were progressing well between Bob Arum’s Top Rank (who promote Lomachenko) and Al Haymon’s PBC (who represent Davis) for a November showdown.

However, Lomachenko’s manager Egis Klimas has declared the Ukrainian slickster doesn’t have the motivation to box again this year and so won’t return to the ring until 2025.

Shakur Stevenson Responds To Gervonta Davis Callout

With the Loma fight off the table for the back end of this year, Davis’ co-trainer Kenny Ellis indicated that they may target a fight with WBC champion Stevenson next.

Stevenson’s co-manager Josh Dubin, insists their “phone lines are open.”

“We’re here and waiting and ready to negotiate.”

Boxing Scene reported that there have been preliminary discussions between Davis and Stevenson’s representatives although Dubin declined to comment.

“They know Shakur produced the highest-rated ESPN card of the year (July 6), so they need to come correct…

Dubin also revealed that they had tried to get a unification fight over the line with WBO champion Denis Berinchyk but that they “couldn’t get a straight answer.”

The Mexican puncher has been ordered by the WBC to box Stevenson next but his promoter Oscar De La Hoya has indicated that he will likely go down the WBO route.

The collision course Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson have been on since rising through the ranks may just be ready to reach its end.

The two Americans are now champions in the lightweight division, both yet to be defeated and considered to be amongst the elite in the sport of boxing.
