Novak Djokovic has admitted he isn’t at the same level as Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner, with tennis fans and pundits questioning whether the Serbian star will ever win another grand slam. Djokovic was blown off the court by Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final on Sunday, with the Spanish whiz-kid defending his title with a 6-2 6-2 7-6 (7-4) triumph.

Alcaraz became just the sixth man in the Open era to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year, leaving Djokovic shell-shocked with his level of play. Djokovic came into the tournament just weeks after undergoing knee surgery, and produced a remarkable effort just to make the

But many are questioning whether he’ll ever get that elusive 25th grand slam title – which would see him go one clear of Margaret Court for the most in tennis history. Speaking to reporters after the crushing loss, Djokovic made the brutal admission that he isn’t at the same level as Alcaraz or Sinner (who beat him at the Australian Open) this year.

“The Olympic Games and US Open are the two big goals for the rest of the year for me really,” Djokovic said. “I’m hoping I can be at my best in those two tournaments, yeah. That’s all I can say right now.

“I mean, being able to reach the finals of Wimbledon, of course, it’s a great confidence boost. But I also feel like in a match-up today against [the] best player right now in the world for sure, I mean, other than Jannik, and both of them are the best this year by far, I feel like I’m not at that level.

“In order to really have a chance to I guess beat these guys in grand slam latter stages or Olympics, I’m going to have to play much better than I did today and feel much better than I did today. I’m going to work on it. It’s not something I haven’t experienced before ever in my life. I’ve had so many different experiences throughout my career. In the face of adversity, normally I rise and I learn and get stronger. That’s what I’m going to do.”

Discussing the match in commentary for BBC, Nick Kyrgios and Tim Henman debated whether the 37-year-old Djokovic has enough left in the tank to win another major. “In all honesty, for 6-2 6-2 5-4 40-0, it was an annihilation,” said Henman. “Alcaraz was just absolutely phenomenal.

“The tone was set in that first service game of Djokovic, it was a 14 or 15-minute game. Alcaraz was able to get that break of serve and then he was just relentless. He gave Djokovic nothing to get his teeth stuck into. We were just waiting for the reaction, we were waiting for Djokovic to respond and that really only happened late in the third set when, in all honesty, it was just a little bit too late.”

Aussie star Kyrgios added: “Physically he is not 100% but he decided to play it and he has said time and time again how important this event is to him. Look, he just came out a little bit flat, understandably at 37, he has won this championship seven times but Alcaraz was just a bit too much today.

“He threw everything at Carlos in the third set and he just kept coming up with answers time and time again. Me and Tim have had this conversation, it is a conversation all tennis fans need to have, is there one more slam left for Djokovic on the calendar? With the come up of Alcaraz, and obviously two times in a row beating him in the final, does Djokovic have enough left in the tank to get one more slam?”

As a two-time Olympic gold medal winner, Claressa Shields had some of her fondest boxing memories from the Olympic Games.

So as far as the Paris 2024 Olympics go, who does “The GWOAT” like to win gold? The undisputed middleweight women’s world champion is going with Jajaira Gonzalez, a 27-year-old from Glendora, California.

“Jajaira Gonzalez is the best, she’s like a sister to me,” Shields recently told SportsHandle.com. “We’ve traveled the world together. I believe her and Morelle McCane had some of the best fights back in 2016 to make the Olympics. Morelle made it by a hair, but Jajaira has been around for a long time.”

And through that time, Shields believes that Gonzalez has gained invaluable ring experience that will pay off in the Olympics.

“She’s been in the ring with the best, like Queen Underwood and the girls who are now pros doing big things,” added Shields who will clash with Vanessa Joanisse for the WBC heavyweight women’s title on July 27, live on DAZN.

“I believe Jajaira has the best chance at the gold medal because of her experience,” she tacked on. “I know all of them can do it, but Jajaira has the most experience.”

Tyson Fury is the leading heavyweight contender in the latest WBC rankings following confirmation that Anthony Joshua, the previous WBC mandatory, will challenge the IBF titlist Daniel Dubois in September.

Joshua has been removed from the ratings as per WBC policy regarding fighters competing for rival belts. Taking his place in the Top 15, at number 15, is Sweden’s Otto Wallin, who Joshua knocked out in December. Oleksandr Usyk is the WBC champion.

There is still no place for Joseph Parker because he holds the needless WBO interim title. Zhilei Zhang, who lost to Parker in March, is ranked third and Deontay Wilder, outpointed by Parker in December, is 14th.

Johnny Fisher enters for the first time following his recent 36-second knockout victory over Alen Babic. The Romford ticket-seller is rated at 38, but Babic keeps his place at bridgerweight, where he can be found at 15th.

Leading up to their Heavyweight championship fight, both Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois are supposed to sign up

Come September 21, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois are supposed to fight the recently vacated IBF Heavyweight title of the world. Oleksandr Usyk was practically forced to vacate the belt right after beating Tyson Fury for the unified heavyweight title.

Their reasoning behind it was that they want to keep the heavyweight division active and these two British boxers deserve a shot at the belt. Despite Usyk’s efforts to reverse the decision, he still had to vacate it. In a new turn of events, AJ’s 258MGT promotions just asked on Twitter why Daniel Dubois still hasn’t signed up for the PED Vada Testing pool.

Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois have their first tense face-off ahead of their highly anticipated

Every single fighter must submit themselves to this testing in order to prove they are not using PEDs at least two months before the fight.

Currently, there is an ongoing conversation amongst boxing experts that Daniel Dubois has increased his punshing power considerably in a short amount of time. Given the rumors about potential PED use, Anthony Joshua’s camp has decided to take this public and start asking these questions.

As far as we know, Daniel Dubois’ team has’t responded to this inquiry from Anthony Joshua’s side. Queensberry Promotions are the ones supposed to respond to these questions. Thus far, there has been no response from them either as the clock keeps ticking. If Daniel Dubois has indeed not presented himself for VADA Testing, there is a chance that this fight will be postponed by at least a month.

In recent years, there has been a clear uptick in doping amongst combat sports athletes. We know well what Ryan Garcia has done with the Devin Haney fight, he was found postive for PEDs and was subsequently suspended by the WBC for his erratic behavior.

Amid the recent uptick, there are many different measures that are considered in order to get some level of control back from the people who are hell bent on breaking the rules. Catching athletes using PEDs has turned extremely difficult in recent years and there needs to be a better strategy in place that can identify aggressors. Combat sports nee to rule by example when it comes to PEDs.

But when it comes to its four younger fighters in Davis, Stevenson, Haney and Garcia, a boxing legend isn’t hesitating to shower one with the most praise — “Tank.”

Gervonta Davis: Tank shines again but glorious procession awaits with equal sense of dread and anticipation | The Independent

“One of the best ones out there… he’s really one of the pound-for-pound best ones out of the coop,” Jones began explaining about Davis, the WBA lightweight world champion, while speaking with Stephen Jackson on All the Smoke Fight.

“He can punch but he also can box. Some that can punch, can’t box. He can box, he can punch, he can move laterally, he can do it left side, right side.

As the conversation continued, Jones particularly highlighted how Davis has become an expert at setting opponents up for a knockout punch as 28 of the Baltimore, Maryland fighter’s 30 wins have come by the way of knockout.

“He shows discipline… discipline enough to [know] he got enough shock on his punch but he knows how to set the punch up before he does it,” Jones said of Davis’ technique.

“That’s a real chess player in the boxing ring,” he added. “That’s the most deadly kind of guy in the world besides a Mike Tyson-type guy in boxing — a guy that can play chess in that boxing ring is a killer and that’s what ‘Tank’ can do.

Gervonta “Tank” Davis will be able to allowed to go to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after all.

Baltimore Circuit Judge Althea M. Handy on Tuesday granted a request from the World Boxing Association lightweight champion to travel from July 19 to Aug. 12 to “support and advise” Team USA boxing.

Davis, 29, now of Parkland, Florida, sought permission because he’s on probation for a hit-and-run that happened in Baltimore in 2020. The ruling came less than one week after the judge called his attorney arrogant and accused him of trying to intimidate her.Has Gervonta Davis ever been Knocked Down?

“Given his status amongst the world’s best boxers, Mr. Davis would be a key asset in motivating and supporting our team to achieve Olympic greatness and become the number one nation in the world at this year’s Olympic Games,” Matt Johnson, high performance director for USA Boxing, wrote in a June 26 letter to Handy.

The third slam of the season is in full swing as the third round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships wraps up on Day 6. The All England Club draw has given us some scintillating Round 3 matchups, including No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic vs Alexei Popyrin. As always, we at LWOT have our roundtable predictions for all the Wimbledon action. Damian, Jordan, Ateet and Yesh offer their insights.

Wimbledon Men’s Day 6 Predictions

Arthur Fils vs Roman Safiullin

Damian
Fils got through after Hurkacz got injured, but let’s remember he played a phenomenal first two sets there and was still alive in the fourth set tie-break when that issue popped up. Safiullin made the quarterfinals last year and is firing at Wimbledon again, he also has that type of game to rush the Fils groundstrokes on grass. But something tells me this is the event that the Frenchman was looking for this year.
Prediction: Fils in 5

Lucky to get away': Djokovic survives Popyrin scare

Jordan
This promises to be a fun match between two very aggressive players. Fils does have slightly more explosiveness at his best. Inconsistency is sometimes his issue, but I am backing the Frenchman to find his range enough times to make the fourth-round.
Prediction: Fils in 4

Ateet

This is already the best Grand Slam run for Arthur Fils and he has a golden opportunity to extend this further. He played a brilliant match against one of the outside favourites for the title, Hubert Hurkacz. Roman Safiullin hasn’t been in great form this year but has played well this week. He made the semifinals of Wimbledon last year so it’s safe to say he likes playing on grass. This match will be close if Safiullin can bring his best level but Fils’ has the bigger game and serve which will be the difference.
Prediction: Fils in 5

Yesh

Hubert Hurkacz might not have been 100%, but Arthur Fils was playing so well to have him beat anyway. I, for one, can’t wait to see how far the Frenchman can go.
Prediction: Fils in 3

Lucas Pouille vs Alex de Minaur

Damian
Pouille has been awesome since the qualifying and while he had to fight his way through the last two matches, he’s showing that he can still be a decent main tour player even after all these injuries seriously depleting him physically. But de Minaur has joined the elites now. The Australian is so tough to beat and requires a truly perfect standard from his opposition. A standard that Pouille is unlikely to deliver for at least three sets.
Prediction: de Minaur in 4

Australian Open 2024; Novak Djokovic vs Alexei Popyrin, John Millman prediction

Pouille, after struggling a lot in recent years, has surprised many with his run at SW19. However, he is very unlikely to topple de Minaur. The Australian’s consistency and intensity should be too much for Pouille, especially since the Frenchman is not as physically strong as he used to be.

Prediction: de Minaur in 3

Ateet
Alex De Minaur convincingly overcame Jaume Munar in the second round and appears poised for a deep run. Although injuries have hindered Lucas Pouille’s career, he still performs well when he can play. This will be tougher for de Minaur than it looks on paper but he is too good to not win this.
Prediction: de Minaur in 4

Yesh
Alex de Minaur is putting things all together. This run might be a nice swan song for Pouille, but it’s hard to think the Aussie won’t take this.
Prediction: de Minaur in 3

Damian
Funnily enough Mpetshi Perricard might be disappointed that Ruusuvuori pulled off the Tsitsipas upset as he would have had some much fun smashing serves at the Greek’s one-handed backhand return. The Finn is also an opponent he could beat though and while Ruusuvuori should have some extra confidence now after his previous round, let’s remember we hadn’t really seen the best of his game in a while before last match.
Prediction: Mpetshi Perricard in 5

Jordan
This will come down to very fine margins. Overall, Ruusuvuori is narrowly favoured. I think he is slightly more likely to create chances against Mpetshi Perricard’s huge serve than the Frenchman is to get opportunities in Ruusuvuori’s service games.
Prediction: Ruusuvuori in 4

Ateet
Perricard destroyed his second-round opponent, Yoshihito Nishioka in just 71 minutes to set up this clash with Emil Ruusuvuori. The Frenchman has been hitting aces left, right and centre and is athletic to go with that. Emil Ruusuvuori defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas with a fantastic performance. He has always been capable of producing such levels but consistency has been his problem. He hits massive balls from both wings but can he break the serve of Perricard? I think he can and will be more clinical in tiebreaks.
Prediction: Ruusuvuori in 5

Australian Open 2024: Novak Djokovic vs Alexei Popyrin preview, head-to-head, prediction, odds, and pick

Yesh
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard is continuing his breakthrough season, taking the Tour and Majors by storm. He’s going to get another round here, too. The question might be becoming wondering who will stop him.
Prediction: Mpetshi Perricard in 3

Novak Djokovic vs Alexei Popyrin

Damian
Djokovic doesn’t look like a player who will win the event and Popyrin was close to taking him to five sets at the Australian Open this year. It’s tough to compare these versions of the Serbian though, back then he was struggling with a viral illness and now might be a bit tentative covering his backhand corner after the injury. Popyrin has some firepower, but it might all be a bit too predictable to beat Djokovic.
Prediction: Djokovic in 4

Jordan
This matchup is not complicated. Popyrin’s big serve needs to be firing on all cylinders to have a chance of toppling the seven-time champion. But I always trust Djokovic to create the chances he needs against big servers.
Prediction: Djokovic in 3

Ateet
Popyrin played a good match when these two met at the Australian Open this year and it won’t be easy this time too for Djokovic, who wasn’t at his best in his last match and is working his way up with every match. Popyrin has a big serve and forehand but his backhand can be vulnerable and Djokovic will target that. I expect Popyrin to take a set but also Djokovic will improve from his last match.
Prediction: Djokovic in 4

Yesh
Alexei Popyrin is rounding into form (again), while Djokovic isn’t at his best. Does that mean there’s upset potential here? I’m saying nope, but it’s fun to think about.
Prediction: Djokovic in 4

Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) is returning to the ring after a yearlong hiatus to face WBA super welterweight titleholder Israil Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs) on August 3, 2023. ‘Bud’ who was last seen dishing out a sensational TKO victory against Errol Spence Jr . (28-1, 22 KOs) in 2023, has long been eyeing a fight against pound-for-pound fighter, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs). With fans expecting a potentially gargantuan clash between the titans, trainer Robert Garcia believes that Crawford will prove to be a tough opponent for Alvarez.

Garcia was talking to K.O. Artist Sports. In conversation, he opened up about the possibility of Crawford jumping weight classes to fight Alvarez at Super Middleweight. “I think it is a big fight because Crawford is huge pound-for-pound number 1 or number 2 or 3 for a lot of people, and he does have skills,” he said.

Garcia further mentioned that if Crawford emerges victorious in his upcoming fight against Madrimov, it will undoubtedly bring in big numbers for a potential Alvarez fight. “It’ll be a fight that does really good numbers. I think it’s a fight that will sell. Crawford will put up some good rounds. I think that Canelo is the bigger guy and more experienced, and I think in the later rounds, he’ll catch him and maybe stop him. But Crawford will put up a good fight. I know that for a fact,” he added.

Madrimov, on the other hand, seems to be laser-focused only on his upcoming fight against Crawford. Talking to BoxingScene, he revealed why Crawford will have a hard time dominating him in his division. “He’s a great fighter. All around, he has every tool, but I feel like this is my division,” he said.

He further mentioned that he fought at a higher weight class as an amateur and added that every fight he had after turning pro at 154 has been a major one. “What everyone’s saying about experience, my 11 fights in the pros is not the same as everyone else. This is my division. He’s moving up. I know he has all the skills, but it’s my division, and it’s my time,” he said.

In professional tennis, even champions like Serena Williams find humor in their past dalliances away from the court.
