Since last September Anthony Joshua’s boxing career in doubt after ‘serious’ body injury

Anthony Joshua, a former two-time heavyweight champion has reportedly sustained a serious injury to the “top half of his body,” delaying his return to the ring this summer, according to talkSPORT

Following his stunning knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last September, Joshua has been sidelined, with his return eagerly awaited.

Potential opponents and comeback hopes

Promoter Eddie Hearn had previously mentioned potential matchups against Tyson Fury and a Dubois rematch, with Joseph Parker, Deontay Wilder, and Martin Bakole also in contention.

However, Joshua is currently unable to resume full training due to an injury that has left him “unable to punch properly.”

Hearn confirms injury timeline

Hearn confirmed that the issue will keep AJ out of camp for eight weeks but declined to disclose specific details.

“Nothing major, but it means that he’s been returning to training and it’s not quite ready to turn back to camp. He needs about another eight weeks until he can punch properly. You’re looking at April-May till he can start camp properly, so it leads us to the back end of the summer.”

Dubois rematch plans on hold

A rematch with Dubois was originally planned for February, but minor injuries forced Joshua to withdraw.

“AJ desperately wants revenge, but the only issue is timing,” Hearn told the BBC earlier this year.

“For the rematch to happen in February, training camp would have had to start in a couple of weeks. There are always niggles, and he had a few, so physically, it’s just a case of whether AJ is ready.”

Joshua’s form before injury setback

Before his loss to Dubois, Joshua was on a four-fight winning streak, having bounced back from consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in September 2021 and August 2022.

He secured victories over Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius, followed by impressive knockout wins against Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou, which suggested a return to his peak form.

Meet the next heavyweight king with 100 percent KO ratio vying to succeed Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua

The three kings of the current glamour division Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are all nearing the end of their respective careers – or in Fury’s case, are already retired.

Daniel Dubois knocked out Joshua in September at Wembley Stadium in a passing of the torch while several fresh faces are chomping at the bit to prove that they are the next great heavyweight

The pick of the bunch in most expert’s eyes is two-time Olympic gold medallist Bakhodir Jalolov.

The towering southpaw from Uzbekistan stands 6ft 7in tall and has a monstrous 81-inch reach.

However, he doesn’t move like a man of his size.

Jalolov is light on his feet, possesses blisteringly quick hands and has an elite boxing brain that has paved the way for a glittering amateur career.

Among the mountain of medals in his trophy cabinet are two Olympic golds from Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, two World Championship golds and three Asian Championship golds.

Jalolov also boasts an unblemished 14-0 professional record with every single one of his wins coming inside the distance.

He made his pro debut back in 2018, although his progression has been stunted by his return to the unpaid ranks for two Olympic cycles.

“I have no chance of winning three Olympic titles as I want to get attention in professional boxing.”

He will feature on a card topped by Janibek Alimkhanuly’s defence of his IBF and WBO middleweight belts against Anauel Ngamissengue at Barys Arena in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Standing across from him will be ‘The Ukrainian Hulk’ Igor Shevadzutskiy, who was stopped in the third round by Martin Bakole in 2023 and beaten on points by Kubrat Pulev last year.

Boxing fans are clambering to see Jalolov test himself against the divisional elite and when the question was posed to him as to when he will fight a top ten opponent, he replied: “Soon.

“That is why it took a long time for me to look into professional boxing and start my professional boxing properly.

“My legs are very quick, my hands are very fast, I am going to be a problem for this generation.

After back-to-back losses Deontay Wilder Makes Final Decision On Retirement After Brutal KO Loss At 39 Years Old

Deontay Wilder has suffered back-to-back losses in his last two bouts.

The long-reigning WBC Heavyweight Champion was at one stage knocking out all comers, having built up a record of 39 stoppages from 40 fights before coming up against Tyson Fury

The pair of heavyweights first fought to a draw, but Fury would hand Wilder his first two losses inside the distance in fight two and three.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ took a year out of the ring before beating Robert Helenius in the first round, but another 14 months of inactivity followed. He was then upset by Joseph Parker over the distance and, in a fight he admitted could be his last, knocked out by Zhilei Zhang six months later.

A low-level comeback fight pencilled in for April was recently scrapped, leaving many in the sport feeling that the devastating puncher from Tuscaloosa, Alabama could move off quietly into retirement.

Speaking to Space Port Sweden, coach and close personal friend to Wilder, Malik Scott, said in no uncertain terms that the former champion will be fighting again.

“Fighting is in Deontay’s heart. He’ll fight again. Deontay will fight again. He just moves on his own terms and does things how he wants to do them.

“Especially when it comes to the business aspect of things because like I said he doesn’t need this, so he ain’t going to do it if all the terms are not right.

“He’s still Deontay Wilder. He’s still big time boxing and people still want to see him. He’ll fight again.”

Whether or not Wilder will attempt a low-key comeback before chasing big fights remains to be seen, however Scott did mention both Francis Ngannou and Anthony Joshua as potential opponents.

Significantly Deontay Wilder Future Now In Serious Doubt As Major Update On Comeback Fight Revealed

Deontay Wilder‘s plan to return to the ring this April has been canned.

The knockout artist from Alabama is a former long-reigning WBC Heavyweight Champion, only meeting his match 44 fights into his professional campaign when Tyson Fury stopped him to snatch the belt. In their third and final fight the Brit would produce the same result

Deontay Wilder took time out before returning with a first round knockout against Robert Helenius. Further inactivity followed before he was comprehensively out pointed by Joseph Parker in Saudi Arabia and knocked out by Zhilei Zhang in the fight after. It left many in the sport expecting the 39-year-old to retire, particularly since he looked far from his old dangerous self in those latest outings.

Despite even admitting that defeat to Zhang could spell the end of his career, Wilder would go on to confirm that he would fight on and ‘the best is yet to come.’ His road back to the top was to begin in April on a BLK Prime promotion against journeyman Curtis Harper.

Harper – best known for walking out of the ring on the first bell against top contender Efe Ajagba – had confirmed he signed for the fight, though the announcement press conference was cancelled due to the devastating wild fires in Los Angeles. World Boxing News now reports that the fight has been pulled entirely, with Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel confirming the situation but ‘wouldn’t comment when asked if Wilder had decided to retire.’

Fans of ‘The Bronze Bomber’ will hope that this could mean he has landed a more significant fight with another promotion, however there is the real possibility that he returns to the drawing board, eight months out of action and counting

Anthony Joshua next fight plans dealt fresh blow amid Oleksandr Usyk’s bold demand

Anthony Joshua’s quest for redemption has hit a snag as Oleksandr Usyk has doubled down on his intention to rematch with Daniel Dubois in his next fight.

After the WBO mandated that Usyk and Joseph Parker enter negotiations for a mandatory heavyweight clash, setting a 30-day window for them to conclude terms following Parker’s win over Martin Bakole, it appeared ‘AJ’ might be back-on-track. In their communication, the WBO asserted: “Please be advised that the WBO World Championship Committee is hereby ordering the commencement of negotiations between the subject matters fighters to discharge the WBO mandatory championship obligation in the heavyweight division.

“By virtue of this order, the WBO Interim Championship shall be terminated expeditiously in compliance with our institutional policy of only one world champion per weight class. The two parties have 30 days to reach terms. Failure to do so will result in this Committee ordering purse bid proceedings in accordance with WBO Regulations of World Championship Contests.”

AJ, hungry for a chance to avenge his previous defeat to ‘Triple D’, would have welcomed this turn of events. Their previous match-up at Wembley Stadium saw Dubois deliver a knockout blow in the fifth round that floored Joshua.

Nonetheless, Usyk’s latest pronouncement – favouring a fight with Dubois – could derail Joshua’s hopes for a swift return to winning ways. Ukraine champion Usyk has signalled a keen interest to face Daniel Dubois in the boxing ring, letting it be known during a conversation with Al Arabiya News: “We want to fight Dubois. My team is ready.

“A lot depends on how God will give us a way to do it and the second person who can do that is His Excellency, Turki Alalshikh, because he is the person who can organise this fight. I think there would be obstacles otherwise.”

Further extolling the merits of Saudi Arabia as a stage for boxing, Usyk remarked: “The only person who can organise it is His Excellency and the Riyadh season. You know, I always fought on the land of my opponents.

“At present, Saudi Arabia has created the best environment, and organised these fights, so it has become like my second home. When I box in Saudi Arabia, it feels like our second home with great people and great fans. We can go to look around and meet with people. Currently, we can’t host fights in Ukraine, but we can have them in Saudi Arabia – and they are very kind to us.”

The anticipated rematch between Usyk and Dubois is generating significant buzz, with speculation mounting that their potential undisputed heavyweight world title clash could even take place at Wembley Stadium in London. Alexander Krassyuk, the promoter for Usyk, revealed to Sky Sports that discussions are underway for the fight, with Wembley being one of the considered venues.

The two heavyweights previously met in 2023, with Usyk securing a ninth-round TKO victory.

Rematch is clocking as Oleksandr Usyk Delivers His Honest Verdict On Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois

Oleksandr Usyk has seen off the challenges of both Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua.

The current unified world heavyweight champion remains unbeaten in the professional ranks having cleaned out the cruiserweight division to become undisputed before repeating that feat up in the banner division

Along the way, he knocked out Dubois in August 2023 despite being down for several minutes after what was ruled a low blow, having already dispatched ‘AJ’ twice over 12 rounds.

Since then, he had to vacate the IBF belt to honour a rematch with Tyson Fury, which he won having beaten him the first time to become undisputed.

It was Dubois who picked up that belt after his win over Fillip Hrgovic, then he defended it with a career-best showing against Joshua back in September. He had his man down at the end of the first round and by the fifth round knocked him out and left him unable to continue to retain his crown.

Anthony Joshua opted not to take an immediate rematch at the time, but that is a fight that is now a real possibility for Dubois as he looks to return to action following an illness that kept him out of his proposed fight with Joseph Parker back in February.

Speaking to Al Arabiya English, Usyk was asked if that rematch was possible and how it might go.

“There’s always a chance. In the first fight, Daniel was a winner, but it’s boxing, if there was another fight, I’m not a great predictor. It would be interesting to see another fight between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.”

Usyk is rather hoping it will be he who faces Dubois as he strives to become a two-time undisputed champion before he retires.

“We Would All Be In Danger” Tyson Fury Relieved One World Champion Isn’t A Heavyweight

Tyson Fury has praised a featherweight powerhouse who is tearing through the division.

The former WBC heavyweight champion announced his retirement from boxing at the beginning of the year, just weeks after he was beaten by Oleksandr Usyk in their huge rematch which saw the Ukrainian superstar retain his unified WBC, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles

Tyson Fury had been heavily linked with a long awaited all-British showdown against two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, although it now appears that this bout is no longer in the pipeline for both fighters, much to the disappointment of boxing fans around the globe.

Speaking whilst working as a pundit for TNT Sports, ‘The Gypsy King’ gave plaudits to WBA featherweight champion Nick Ball, as he jokingly admits ‘everyone would be unsafe’ if the 28-year-old was a heavyweight.

“I think he is fantastic, little Nick Ball. God made him 5ft 3in [5ft 2in] for a reason, because if he were 6ft 5in we would all be unsafe right now.

He is a proper English pitbull terrier. I love watching him, honestly. Even though he beat my mate Isaac Lowe, I am a massive fan of little Nick Ball.”

Ball made the second defence of his WBA crown with a dominant performance against Ireland’s TJ Doheny on March 15 in his hometown of Liverpool, stopping the 38-year-old at the end of the tenth round to remain unbeaten as a professional

The 28-year-old has expressed his interest in a showdown against pound-for-pound superstar Naoya Inoue, who is the current undisputed super bantamweight champion. Inoue has already captured world titles in four weight divisions, with many regarding the Japanese icon as one of the biggest punchers in boxing.

Joe Rogan in Disbelief Over Deontay Wilder’s Insane Power Despite Having Legs That “Look Like Sticks”

Deontay Wilder would probably be grinning ear to ear if he heard what Joe Rogan just said. After all, the past few years have been anything but smooth sailing for him. Well, except for 2022—when he scored a brutal first-round knockout against Robert Helenius.

Since then, it’s been a rough ride. His biggest roadblock? Tyson Fury. Their rivalry haunted him until 2021, with back-to-back losses knocking him off his throne. To add on, 2023 threw another curveball his way. He lost to Joseph Parker, missing out on the WBC International Heavy and WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight titles. Then, in 2024, he took another hit—Zhilei Zhang stopped him with a fifth-round TKO.

So yeah, it’s been a rollercoaster. But hearing what Rogan really thinks of him might be the spark the 39-year-old needs. So what exactly did he say? Let’s find out.

Deontay Wilder Hits Like a Truck, But…

A few days ago, Joe Rogan was geeking out over Deontay Wilder’s ridiculous knockout power in one of his podcasts with Michael Kosta. Joe Rogan said he’s “the greatest one-punch knockout artist in the history of the heavyweight division.” And honestly, he’s got a point. The Bronze Bomber isn’t just a knockout artist. Rogan also noted that the former WBC Heavyweight champion’s record was insane at one point. “Like 39 Knockouts out of 40 fights,” Rogan stated. Well, that’s not exactly an everyday story—it’s a rare phenomenon, isn’t it?

But do you know what makes it even crazier? It’s the fact that Deontay Wilder isn’t even the biggest heavyweight. When he fought The Gypsy King for the first time in 2018, Fury was walking around at 256½ pounds. And Wilder? Well, he was just 212½. Now, that’s over a 40-pound difference! And yet, it never mattered. Why? Because Wilder’s right hand is the equalizer.

As the conversation continued, Joe Rogan further brought up his 10th-round TKO victory against Luis Ortiz in 2018 to make the point. And you see, Ortiz isn’t exactly a piece of cake. He was on the Cuban Olympic team, a super-skilled guy. Ultimately, that didn’t make a difference. Rogan pointed out, “He’s just waiting, waiting, wait blam!! and he hits guys and they’re like what the fu–.” And that’s the thing about Wilder!

But there’s something else. After considering him a slick boxer, Joe Rogan also pointed out a bizarre detail, moving away from the compliments. Pointing at the 43-4 boxer’s feet, he said, “His movement is sometimes awkward. He’s criticized for having a bad foot where his legs look like sticks. He has the skinniest legs you’ve ever seen in your life, like it’s crazy.” But leaving that aside, if you ask about the power? “Out of this world,” Joe Rogan concluded.

Wilder isn’t your typical heavyweight like Zhilei Zhang or Tyson Fury for example. He’s not the biggest, or most technical, but when it comes to sheer knockout power, he’s in a league of his own. But the question remains, when is he coming back in the ring?

Stephen Shaw fueled the Wilder fight rumors

In the beginning of 2025, rumors started flying about Deontay Wilder making a comeback. The opponent you ask? It’s Stephan Shaw. When? In April on BLK Prime PPV in Atlanta, Georgia. Sounded like a solid fight, right? Well…it wasn’t.

Shaw himself shut down the rumors in an interview with sports journalist, Hans Themistode. He seemed just as surprised as the rest of us. “I just woke up one morning and they were talking about the fight,” he said. Here’s what exactly happened, someone called him up, telling him the news was spreading. But in reality, not a single offer was received either by him or his team.

Deontay wilder

However, Shaw saw an opportunity to fight the former heavyweight champion played along for a bit. Shaw admitted that he himself reshared the story to keep the hype going. “Today I saw this information on a blog and shared it. I feel that this fight would be perfect for me,” he said. And honestly, he has a point. The boxer had a history with Wilder. He’s been sparring with him since 2017, from the Gerald Washington fight all the way up to Wilder’s last bout against Zhang. So, in his mind, it made sense to run along with the idea before even checking in with his manager. But in the end, he had to admit, “Honestly, right now it’s all smoke and mirrors.”

Shaw clearly wanted this fight. But with this rumor falling apart, the big question is, when is Deontay Wilder coming back? And if he does, who should he fight next?

Anthony Joshua backed to land surprise world title shot in undisputed ‘tournament’ after Oleksandr Usyk order

Anthony Joshua has been backed to land a shot at the WBO world title if Oleksandr Usyk vacates.

That is according to talkSPORT pundit Spencer Oliver, who believes he has cracked the ever-complex heavyweight conundrum.

Oleksandr Usyk is keen to fight for the undisputed crown against Daniel Dubois with preliminary talks underway for a summer bout.

But a stumbling block was produced by the WBO who subsequently ordered Usyk to defend his title against Joseph Parker

He could be forced to vacate if he chooses to face Dubois, or could look to file for an exception with the WBO to grant all four belts being on the line.

If he chooses to face Dubois and vacate the WBO strap, a small possibility could see Parker immediately upgraded or thrust into a shot at the belt.

And Oliver discussed what he believes will unfold, with Joshua to be first in line for a shot at Parker if the situation resolves itself.

He said on the latest episode of talkBOXING: “Yeah I am across it, I think Oleksandr Usyk is looking for another dance partner.

“Who I believe will be Daniel Dubois. I think that fight happens next even though the WBO will want him to fight someone new.

“He will be a full world champion and then Anthony Joshua boxes him for that WBO title.

“Then the winners box each other for the undisputed titles, that is the route and road map I see.”

When asked if Joshua was a credible challenger for a world title despite his defeat to Dubois, Adam Smith insisted it was a valid option.

He added: “Of course, he’s reigned as a two-time heavyweight champion and a poster boy for boxing for many years.

“He’s lost to Dubois who was in great form and brilliant. AJ is still a massive name in boxing.

“Of course he deserves it, under Ben Davison he was looking good, He got beaten up, but he can recover from that, he did against Andy Ruiz.

“The Fury fight is the big fight for Joshua, but I still think that can too so I worry before that.

“But does AJ deserve a chance to fight for a world title again? 100 per cent.”

Joshua was on a positive run beating Francis Ngannou and Otto Wallin before losing to Dubois.

oleksandr usyk

The British powerhouse is also still a commercial juggernaut, and was eyeing the huge fight with Fury this year.

But Fury chose to retire from the sport and his future remains uncertain having yet to pencil in his next meeting.

His promoter Eddie Hearn suggested it will still be another month or two before he can return to a full training camp, which could see him fight just once this year.

Anthony Joshua’s hopes of redemption have taken a hit as Oleksandr Usyk has reiterated his wish to face Daniel Dubois in his next bout.

The WBO had ordered Usyk and Joseph Parker to start negotiations for a mandatory heavyweight fight, giving them a 30-day deadline to agree on terms after Parker’s victory over Martin Bakole. The WBO stated: “Please be advised that the WBO World Championship Committee is hereby ordering the commencement of negotiations between the subject matters fighters to discharge the WBO mandatory championship obligation in the Heavyweight Division.”

The organisation further declared: “By virtue of this order, the WBO Interim Championship shall be terminated expeditiously in compliance with our institutional policy of only one world champion per weight class. The parties have 30 days to reach terms. Failure to do so will result in this Committee ordering purse bid proceedings in accordance with WBO Regulations of World Championship Contests.”

This development initially seemed like good news for ‘AJ’, who is eager to reverse his previous loss to ‘Triple D’. Their encounter at Wembley Stadium last September saw Dubois secure a knockout victory in the fifth round against Joshua. Yet, Usyk’s latest declaration of intent to challenge Dubois throws a wrench into Joshua’s plans for a comeback fight.

Ukrainian boxer Usyk has expressed his eagerness to take on Daniel Dubois in the ring, stating in an interview with Al Arabiya News: “We want to fight Dubois. My team is ready. A lot depends on how God will give us a way to do it and the second person who can do it is His Excellency, Turki Alalshikh, because he is the person who can organise this fight. Usyk praised Saudi Arabia as a boxing venue, saying: “The only person who can organise it is His Excellency and the Riyadh season. You know, I always fought on the land of my opponents. When I box in Saudi Arabia, it feels like our second home – great people, great fans. We can go to look around and meet with people. With anticipation building for a rematch between Usyk and Dubois, speculation is rife that the potential undisputed heavyweight world title bout could be staged at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium. Alexander Krassyuk, Usyk’s promoter, confirmed to Sky Sports: “We are now working on this fight [Usyk vs Dubois II], Wembley as one of the options.” The two heavyweights previously clashed in 2023, where Usyk emerged victorious with a ninth-round TKO. The fight was not without controversy, however, as Dubois had floored Usyk with a body shot that was subsequently ruled a low blow before the fight reached its halfway mark.

If Usyk achieves his goal and defeats Dubois once again, he has his sights set on a bout with ex-UFC light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira. Despite Pereira’s recent title loss to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313, ‘The Cat’ is still keen on a showdown with ‘Poatan.’ “Yes, I would be interested [in a Pereira fight], but only after the fight with Daniel to merge our belts,” Usyk declared. “I even considered the option of fighting in a cage. It is a joke, but every joke contains an element of truth.”
