Since last September Anthony Joshua’s boxing career in doubt after ‘serious’ body injury
Anthony Joshua, a former two-time heavyweight champion has reportedly sustained a serious injury to the “top half of his body,” delaying his return to the ring this summer, according to talkSPORT
Following his stunning knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last September, Joshua has been sidelined, with his return eagerly awaited.
Potential opponents and comeback hopes
Promoter Eddie Hearn had previously mentioned potential matchups against Tyson Fury and a Dubois rematch, with Joseph Parker, Deontay Wilder, and Martin Bakole also in contention.
However, Joshua is currently unable to resume full training due to an injury that has left him “unable to punch properly.”
Hearn confirms injury timeline
Hearn confirmed that the issue will keep AJ out of camp for eight weeks but declined to disclose specific details.
“Nothing major, but it means that he’s been returning to training and it’s not quite ready to turn back to camp. He needs about another eight weeks until he can punch properly. You’re looking at April-May till he can start camp properly, so it leads us to the back end of the summer.”
Dubois rematch plans on hold
A rematch with Dubois was originally planned for February, but minor injuries forced Joshua to withdraw.
“AJ desperately wants revenge, but the only issue is timing,” Hearn told the BBC earlier this year.

“For the rematch to happen in February, training camp would have had to start in a couple of weeks. There are always niggles, and he had a few, so physically, it’s just a case of whether AJ is ready.”
Joshua’s form before injury setback
Before his loss to Dubois, Joshua was on a four-fight winning streak, having bounced back from consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in September 2021 and August 2022.
He secured victories over Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius, followed by impressive knockout wins against Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou, which suggested a return to his peak form.
