Anthony Joshua now looks forward to facing Tyson Fury it seems destined and bound to face each other in 2025

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, two heavyweights who are currently on a losing streak and have never been more in need of each other and, as a result, have never been closer to sharing a ring.

For Joshua, in particular, there is now a willingness, closer to acceptance or resignation, to take risks in ways that he might have resisted when he was unbeaten or closer to the top of the heavyweight division.

Joshua now looks forward to facing Fury

Speaking this week in Lagos, Nigeria, where he visited President Bola Tinubu, Joshua said of a possible fight with Fury: “We’ll see if we get in the ring. Only God knows, but for me, we’ll see in the future“.

Much more revealing was what Joshua said when he spoke to State House Correspondents about the importance of making the right moves in 2025 and regaining everything he lost in 2024. “Time is of the essence, time is limited,” he said. “So I just want to work harder.

In 2024, when I look back, I think I could have done more and I have another chance in 2025 to do more.

“I will make sure I take every opportunity that comes my way. I will go again.

“Ups and downs, they happen. For some people, it’s always up. My life is up and down, so I have to get used to the turbulent times and keep surfing the wave. I can’t stop now; I have to keep going until I reach my destination.”

The beauty of being at the top, of course, is that there is always a false sense of control, both over opponents and over destiny, and it is to your agenda that others work and to your rhythm that others dance.

However, if you suffer a defeat, this is over, as Joshua, 28-4 (25), knows all too well. He has not suffered one defeat, but four in his 11-year professional career and now knows what it is like to have and lose the feeling of control.

At 35 years of age, having lost three of his last seven fights, the former heavyweight champion goes into 2025 as a man looking up at his opponents rather than down at them, and it is from this position, where it is easy to go unnoticed, that potential opponents may consider him diminished, vulnerable and ready to be conquered.

And yet, from that same position, Joshua will only be thinking about the danger it can bring and how being ruled out and therefore free of pressure might not be such a bad thing after all.

#Daniel Dubois#: Anthony Joshua targeting Tyson Fury in 2025 as he vows to box on after defeat to Daniel Dubois

Anthony Joshua is pursuing a fight with Tyson Fury in 2025 as he vows to carry on boxing after his crushing defeat to Daniel Dubois in September.

Former world heavyweight champion Joshua was knocked out in the fifth round by fellow Brit Dubois at Wembley Stadium as he suffered his fourth career loss.

However, the 35-year-old does not appear to be contemplating retirement and is hoping for a long-awaited showdown with Fury, who was recently outpointed by Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia for a second time.

“2025, I am targeting Tyson Fury,” said Joshua, on a trip to meet Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

Reflecting on the Dubois fight, he added: “Makes me hungry, makes me want to work harder. Time is of the essence, time is limited, so I just want to put in more work.

“When I look back, I believe I could have done more in 2024. I have another chance in 2025 to do more and I am going to make sure I take every opportunity that comes my way.

“My life is up and down so I have to get used to the turbulent times and keep riding the wave.

“I can’t stop now. I have to keep going until I reach my destination.”

Speaking to Sky Sports after Fury’s defeat to Usyk on December 21, Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, said: “It’s definitely the only fight for Fury and other than the Dubois rematch, it’s obviously the only fight for AJ.

“Has there ever been a better time? They’re both coming off defeats, both on the back end of their careers.

“One in Wembley, one in Riyadh, two fights in 2025.”

Zhang Or Joshua: Joseph Parker Has No Doubt On His Toughest Opponent And It’s Not Wilder, Zhang Or Joshua

Joseph Parker has mixed it with the elite in the heavyweight division.

Joseph Parker first became WBO heavyweight champion back in 2016 with a victory over Andy Ruiz, and has remained near the top of the division for nearly a decade

He lost his title to Anthony Joshua in 2018, but has had a career resurgence in the past 12 months, defeating Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang to earn himself another crack at world honours.

That comes in February, when he challenges Daniel Dubois for his IBF heavyweight title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the same card as Artur Beterbiev and Dmity Bivol‘s rematch for the undisputed light-heavyweight title.

While Parker may have shared the ring with Wilder, Zhang and Joshua, it’s another man that he deems to have been his toughest ever opponent, as he revealed to Carl Froch on his Froch On Fighting YouTube channel.

“Joe Joyce. It wasn’t a great night for me, it was tough.

“Leading into the fight I got real sick. Very bad. I shouldn’t have fought. Mentally I thought I would smash this guy. Then after one round I thought damn, it’s not going by well.

“He’s not the fastest and doesn’t move the quickest. [I lost because of] The pressure and I wasn’t healthy. It was tough.”

Parker fought Joyce in September 2022, and was knocked out in the 11th round, the only time the New Zealander has been stopped in his career.

Having got his career back on track, Parker will be hoping to become world champion again in February, and his former foe Zhang has predicted how the clash with Dubois will go.

Wladimir Klitschko Needed Just Two Words When Asked If He Can Beat Tyson Fury At 48 Years Old

Wladimir Klitschko continues to tease a return to the ring.

The former long-time world heavyweight champion hasn’t fought since losing to Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium back in April 2017.

Nearly eight years on from that fight, rumours continue to persist that he could be set to make a comeback as he looks to break the record of the oldest world heavyweight champion in history.

Boxing legend George Foreman currently holds that accolade, having lost held world honours at the age of 46 years and 169 days old.

Klitschko turns 49 in March, so would comfortably beat the record if he does pick up a world title again, but question marks remain over what condition he may be in.

One potential opponent for Klitschko could have been Tyson Fury, if he would have been victorious in his world heavyweight title rematch against Oleksandr Usyk in December.

Speaking ahead of the fight, Klitschko needed just two words when asked by Fight Hub TV if he still feels he is capable of beating the likes of Fury.

“Of course.”

Klitschko then revealed just why he is so confident he would be successful.

“Why are there rumours out there? Because I’ve been active and trained every day since I retired in 2017. Do I got it? Of course. Am I ready? Of course. Have I been sparring? Of course.

Those questions about coming back. I never left. There are a lot of things that can happen in the next year. A lot depending unfortunately from the war that is going on in our home country Ukraine.”

#2025#: Anthony Joshua eyes third world title, targets Tyson Fury in 2025

Two-time world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, has set his sights on becoming a three-time world champion by facing off against Tyson Fury in 2025.

The British-Nigerian boxer revealed his ambitions while speaking to journalists during a visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the president’s Ikoyi residence in Lagos on Wednesday.

“My target is to become a three-time world champion and fight Tyson Fury in 2025,” Joshua stated confidently.

Reflecting on the ups and downs of his career, he acknowledged past setbacks, but reaffirmed his commitment to rising stronger, saying “of course, I should have won [past matches], but I didn’t. I can’t stop now; I have to keep going until I reach my destination.”

Joshua, who is in Nigeria for the holiday season, described the energy in the country as “10/10″, expressing gratitude for the warm reception by President Tinubu and praised the hospitality extended to him and his family.

“They did an amazing job hosting me. I got to see how the country is organized and run and learn about the big plans for the future,” he said.

Discussing his plans for 2025, Joshua emphasised his determination to seize every opportunity and improve on his past performances.

“Hunger makes you want to work harder because time is limited. When I look back at 2024, I believe I could have done more, and now I have another chance in 2025. I’m going to make sure I take every opportunity,” he said.

Asked about the prospect of facing Tyson Fury, Joshua acknowledged the uncertainty, but welcomed the challenge.

“We’ll see. Let’s get in the ring. Only God knows, but for me, we’ll see in the future,” he remarked.

Joshua also shared a heartfelt message for Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora.

“To all Nigerians in the diaspora, you have a place called home. It’s a beautiful place, and the energy here is unbelievable. I love you all with my heart,” he said, pledging to support local communities.

“Even though I’m in London, I’ll make sure to bring good energy, opportunities, and work back to Nigeria”, he said….

“Got To Own It” Anthony Joshua’s Trainer Reveals ‘Things Went Wrong’ Before Daniel Dubois Fight: “Got To Own It”

Anthony Joshua took his fourth and most difficult professional loss back in September and it came at the fists of Daniel Dubois.

Former unified heavyweight star Joshua was a favourite going into the fight, which was his chance to become a three-time world champion. It ended in disaster with two knockdowns early on before being stopped once and for all in the fifth round.

The fight was a career-best showing from reigning IBF world champion Dubois, the young British puncher who has had plenty of ups and downs in his career including losses to Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk but solid wins over Jarrell Miller and Fillip Hrgovic.

Joshua’s trainer Ben Davison has been speaking to talkSPORT Boxing and admitted there were issues in the build-up to the fight.

“I know that amongst ourselves we know where some things went wrong. It’s important for us that we don’t look like we are making excuses but there are things that went wrong that we could have done a better job with in and around, and closer to, the fight. You can’t point the blame, we’ve got to own it. We’ve got to wear it. And that’s what we’ve done.”

It was suggested that Joshua might take an immediate rematch with Dubois but he has instead taken time out of the ring to recover from some small injuries.

Dubois has instead moved on and will defend his belt against Joseph Parker on February 22nd out in Saudi Arabia on a card that will be topped by the rematch between undisputed light heavyweight star Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

“Something Unfair Happened” Francis Ngannou Explains Why He Won’t Rematch Anthony Joshua

Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou met in a big heavyweight clash back in March.

It brought together two men that had sent shockwaves through the division in recent times, but for very different reasons

Anthony Joshua had bounced back following his two straight defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, where he had lost his unified world heavyweight titles.

He had picked up wins over Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius since those losses, but had failed to set the world alight with either of those performances.

That changed with his next outing, where he outclassed Otto Wallin a dominant fifth round retirement victory, setting up the fight against Ngannou.

It was a slightly different path for Ngannou that earned him the Joshua bout, with the former UFC heavyweight champion initially making the switch from MMA to take on Tyson Fury in October 2023.

Ngannou shocked the world when he knocked down Fury in the third round, but went on to lose the fight by a close split decision.

Then came the fight against Joshua, but ‘AJ’ made it a one-sided affair, dropping Ngannou multiple times on his way to a destructive second round knockout win.

While some fans felt that Ngannou may want to avenge his defeat, he told Seconds Out that he wasn’t happy with things that happened throughout fight week and is not interested in running it back.

“A rematch with Joshua? I felt very off and not comfortable in that fight. It’s something that could happen, but what I do know for sure is I want the rematch with Fury.

oleksandr usyk

“I’m not a conspiracy theorist but I didn’t like the Joshua fight. Things weren’t right, and if it would be the same scenario, I’m not interested. Something unfair definitely happened. I don’t have the full picture but I have seen myself what wasn’t right. I was in the locker room for almost four hours, which is not something that happens, so just from there.”

Francis Ngannou thinks Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury’s rematch was closer than the judges had it.

Oleksandr Usyk got his hand raised via unanimous decision on Saturday night to record his second consecutive victory over ‘The Gypsy King’.

In their inaugural encounter back in May, the judges were split over who they thought won; with two judges scoring the fight in Usyk’s favour by margins of 115-112 and 114-113, while the third judge had it for Fury 114-113.

But there was no such debate this time as all three judges turned in identical 116-112 scorecards for a Usyk win.

Anthony Joshua was also on hand to score the fight round-by-round for the DAZN broadcast and had Usyk winning narrowly by one point.

“I would have scored the fight closer than that,” he told Pro Boxing Fans.

“Maybe Usyk could have still won. I mean, at the end of the fight, it wasn’t sure that anybody [was a clear winner].

“From my scorecard, it was closer than that.”

The three judges at ringside weren’t the only ones scoring the fight.

A fourth judge, powered by artificial intelligence, also submitted a scorecard as part of an experiment that did not impact the result of the contest.

“No no, AI might be intelligent but AI doesn’t understand the sport properly,” he replied when asked if there is a place for AI judging in boxing.

“It’s a man sport, not a machine sport. I think AI, regardless of everything, is still a machine that operates automatically and scores based on some [information].

daniel dubois

Fury wasn’t a fan of the AI judging himself and made his thoughts be known at the post-fight press conference.

“S***. F*** all computers, keep humans,” he said in an X-rated rant.

“More jobs for humans, less jobs for computers. F*** electric cars too.”

After beating both British heavyweights TWICE, Oleksandr Usyk predicts who would win between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua

Oleksandr Usyk has stuck his neck on the line with a prediction for who would win in a fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

It is the fight that many British fans want to see and with the prospect of a trilogy clash between Fury and the Ukrainian now evaporated, it looks more likely

Usyk beat the Gypsy King 116-112 on all three judges’ scorecards on Saturday night to claim his second win of the year over him and retain his WBC, WBO, and WBA heavyweight titles

And he speaks from a place of authority having also dispatched Joshua twice, beating the Brit on points in 2021 and 2022.

A domestic dust-up has been mooted for the best part of a decade, ever since Fury first became champion when he dethroned Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015. But the stars have not aligned thus far with both Fury and AJ reaching the twilight of their careers.

Usyk was asked two questions by Boxing King Media: Who was a harder overall opponent, and who would be the favourite between the two if they fought?

e could find out in 2025, with Wembley Stadium beckoning for what remains arguably the biggest commercial fight in world boxing.

Both men would be entering the bout off the back of defeats after Joshua was dominated by Daniel Dubois in September.

In his post-fight press conference, Fury was asked what the future holds.

‘You might see me fight again, you might not,’ he cryptically answered.

Fury could finally walk away once and for all. The two-time heavyweight king has climbed to the top of the mountain, beating the likes of Klitschko and Deontay Wilder along the way.

But according to a report in The Sun, the 36-year-old hasn’t reached the end of the road yet.

A source told the publication that after returning to the UK, Fury told close friends: ‘It’s not over.’

And speaking following Saturday’s showdown, promoter Frank Warren insisted that Fury vs Joshua is the fight to make if the Gypsy King elects to continue fighting.

He told The Sun: ‘It’s what people will want to watch.

‘The Fury/Joshua fight is a great fight and if it happens it will be a mega fight, it will be brilliant.

‘But it will only happen if Tyson wants to do it and that’s a big if. And if he doesn’t want to do it, then so be it.’

Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn agreed: ‘The reality is there’s only one fight for Tyson Fury and that’s Anthony Joshua.’

‘It’s the biggest fight probably in the history of British boxing, everyone will always want to see it.

‘For me, AJ against Fury is the one, it’s the one at Wembley, I’m going to be pushing His Excellency [Turki Alalshikh] to make the fight.’

Fury and Joshua had been scheduled to clash in 2022, while the former was still the WBC heavyweight champion.

Negotiations had been ongoing for a bout in December of that year before collapsing, with Fury instead defending his title against Derek Chisora at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Joshua’s last fight came in September when he was stopped in the fifth round by Daniel Dubois for the IBF title.

Zhilei Zhang to fight Agit Kabayel for Interim title, with Anthony Joshua eligible to box the winner

Zhilei Zhang will fight Agit Kabayel for the WBC Interim title, and Anthony Joshua “absolutely” can box the winner; Mauricio Sulaiman says the WBC wants to support the best fights in the sport being made and the Oleksandr Usyk-Tyson Fury winner won’t have an immediate mandatory challenger

The WBC will sanction Zhilei Zhang versus Agit Kabayel for an Interim heavyweight title, and Anthony Joshua would be eligible to fight the winner for the belt.

The WBC’s full world heavyweight title is one of the three belts, along with the WBA and WBO championships, that Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury will fight for when they rematch on December 21

Zhang has already held the WBO Interim heavyweight title, which he lost to New Zealand’s Joseph Parker. But Zhang bounced back from that to defeat former WBC world champion Deontay Wilder in June.

Kabayel is an impressive unbeaten heavyweight, who stopped Frank Sanchez and Arslanbek Makhmudov in his two most recent bouts.

“The WBC has received a formal request to sanction such fight for the Interim title and the WBC will accept to sanction it,” the body’s president, Mauricio Sulaiman told Sky Sports.

“Why? Because we have done everything possible for the past several years to reach the ultimate, great fights in each weight category, especially in the heavyweights.

“All this time we have been perfectly clear and transparent that the WBC will not impose any mandatory that goes against having the ultimate undisputed champion because they’re fighting the best available.

“There’s no better fight than Usyk-Fury. So with that fighting happening, and then the possibilities for the future, we have accepted the No 2 and the No 3 to fight for the Interim title.

“Keep them active and keep the division having the best fights possible.”

Usyk beat Fury in May to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. He had to vacate the IBF title to pursue his December 21 rematch with Fury, leaving Britain’s Daniel Dubois to pick up that vacant belt.

Sulaiman said: “For the winner of December 21 there’s many options. Why should anyone get in the way of a third fight, or the fight again for undisputed [against Dubois] or any high-level event while we can accommodate the champion, [and have a] fight for an Interim title where the winner is going to be a high-level sensational possibility?

“So we’re all for having undisputed champions.”

The Zhang-Kabayel winner won’t just be in the frame to, eventually, challenge the holder of the full WBC heavyweight championship. That Interim title could also offer Anthony Joshua a route back to world level.

Joshua, a former unified champion, was knocked out in September when he fought Dubois for the IBF belt.

But he is still rated at No 6 by the WBC and would be eligible to challenge the Zhang-Kabayel winner for the WBC Interim title.

“Absolutely,” Sulaiman said. “That’s an opening of possibilities for more fights to continue to take place.”
