Oleksandr Usyk has beaten five Brits in the last six years, the most notable being Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

After knocking out Tony Bellew in his last cruiserweight fight, the Ukrainian moved up to heavyweight in the hope of becoming undisputed in a second division.

He beat Derek Chisora before taking the unified titles from Joshua via unanimous decision and keeping hold of them in the rematch with a split decision.

A stoppage of Daniel Dubois served as his second defence before he scored another split decision win against Fury in their long-awaited undisputed clash.

Speaking at a press conference in his home country following the Joshua bout, Usyk said that one of Joshua’s punches ‘sent him to Elon Musk’ for a while before his fighting focus was re-established.

“There were quite tangible blows. You can see it on my face too. There was a cut when we hit our heads. Then a light blow from his jab broke an eyebrow, which was flooding my right eye with blood.

“I will not hide that there were very sensitive blows to the chin, to the stomach, which sent me to Elon Musk for a while, but I quickly returned. In battle, adrenaline and emotions are so overwhelming that you feel it after the battle – pain, dizziness and everything else. In the ring, you are very focused on your actions.”

Joshua would typically be recognised as the bigger puncher when discussed with Fury, but speaking to the 3 Knockdown Rule podcast Usyk held ‘The Gypsy King’s power in high regard, too – particularly one uppercut.

TYSON FURY AND Derek Chisora

” I got uppercut you know, it’s like very pain. Hard pain. I feel maybe 10 seconds I say ‘hey, God, thank you, help me.’ I say to myself ‘hey Alex, move, move. If you stop, he’ll kill you.’”

His manager Egis Klimas then added what Usyk said to him about the uppercut after the fight.

“It was such a big pain I can explain only one thing, it felt like my tooth came out.”

What the Ukrainian felt was an old dental implant being impacted rather than the broken jaw Fury had claimed to have inflicted. After taking the best shots from Joshua, Dubois and Fury, Usyk still maintains that it was Chisora who hit him hardest.

He returns to the ring on December 21 to rematch Fury in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Defending champion Dubois will enter the domestic dust-up as a huge underdog due to his lack of experience against the elite of the division.

The 26-year-old was stopped by Oleksandr Usyk in the ninth round of his first world title fight last August.

Former WBC cruiserweight king Tony Bellew reckons the same fate befall Triple D, but in even more devastating fashion.

The Bomber told Coin Poker: “I think Anthony Joshua knocks Daniel Dubois out inside three rounds.

“Everything that Daniel Dubois does well, Anthony Joshua does better.

Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn told to ‘grow a pair’ by Daniel Dubois’ trainer

“Daniel Dubois is a strong puncher, he’s heavy-handed but Anthony Joshua is stronger and faster.

“He got hit with 45 right hands in four rounds against Filip Hrgovic.

“He’ll get hit with three against Anthony Joshua and he’ll wake up in an ambulance. Anthony Joshua has dynamite in his gloves.

“Don’t get me wrong, Daniel Dubois is a puncher too, so he does have a puncher’s chance, but I rate it at 70-30, 80-20 in Joshua’s favour.”

Dubois knows he faces an uphill task to retain his belt and hand AJ only his fourth career defeat.

But he’s looking forward to the challenge and ushering in a new era of British heavyweight boxing.

He said: “That’s just where I’m aiming for, to fight the best and be the best.

“AJ’s been the king for a long time and on the night, I need to become a king slayer and that’s my goal, that’s the mission at hand.

“I’m learning more about myself as a fighter, as a person, coming out of the darkness and into the light, improving all around as a fighter and as an athlete.

“I’m up for this and ready to go.”

Joshua, 34, knows Dubois well having previously sparred with him and is refusing to underestimate his chances of winning.

He told Sky Sports: “I’m not saying he has the chance to do it on September 21, because sometimes what you speak comes into existence.

“But I won’t let it happen and I’ll show you how good I am.

“Whether it’s in the ring sparring or in the ring fighting, I won’t let anyone manhandle me or try and knock me out. No way.”

During the hearing of the failed drug test, Helenius said he was innocent as he claimed that the clomifene which was found in his body was from eggs and chicken meat he ate before he faced Joshua.

Unfortunately for him, he couldn’t prove that the chemical found in his system came from eggs and chicken meat according to the UK Anti-Doping Agency.

“He was therefore unable to identify the source of clomifene in his Sample and therefore unable to reduce the applicable period of Ineligibility of two years.”

Hence, he was banned from the sport for two years. The ban starts counting from September 18, 2023 (the date he was first suspended) to midnight of September 17, 2025.

Tyson Fury is the leading heavyweight contender in the latest WBC rankings following confirmation that Anthony Joshua, the previous WBC mandatory, will challenge the IBF titlist Daniel Dubois in September.

Joshua has been removed from the ratings as per WBC policy regarding fighters competing for rival belts. Taking his place in the Top 15, at number 15, is Sweden’s Otto Wallin, who Joshua knocked out in December. Oleksandr Usyk is the WBC champion.

There is still no place for Joseph Parker because he holds the needless WBO interim title. Zhilei Zhang, who lost to Parker in March, is ranked third and Deontay Wilder, outpointed by Parker in December, is 14th.

Johnny Fisher enters for the first time following his recent 36-second knockout victory over Alen Babic. The Romford ticket-seller is rated at 38, but Babic keeps his place at bridgerweight, where he can be found at 15th.

Leading up to their Heavyweight championship fight, both Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois are supposed to sign up

Come September 21, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois are supposed to fight the recently vacated IBF Heavyweight title of the world. Oleksandr Usyk was practically forced to vacate the belt right after beating Tyson Fury for the unified heavyweight title.

Their reasoning behind it was that they want to keep the heavyweight division active and these two British boxers deserve a shot at the belt. Despite Usyk’s efforts to reverse the decision, he still had to vacate it. In a new turn of events, AJ’s 258MGT promotions just asked on Twitter why Daniel Dubois still hasn’t signed up for the PED Vada Testing pool.

Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois have their first tense face-off ahead of their highly anticipated

Every single fighter must submit themselves to this testing in order to prove they are not using PEDs at least two months before the fight.

Currently, there is an ongoing conversation amongst boxing experts that Daniel Dubois has increased his punshing power considerably in a short amount of time. Given the rumors about potential PED use, Anthony Joshua’s camp has decided to take this public and start asking these questions.

As far as we know, Daniel Dubois’ team has’t responded to this inquiry from Anthony Joshua’s side. Queensberry Promotions are the ones supposed to respond to these questions. Thus far, there has been no response from them either as the clock keeps ticking. If Daniel Dubois has indeed not presented himself for VADA Testing, there is a chance that this fight will be postponed by at least a month.

In recent years, there has been a clear uptick in doping amongst combat sports athletes. We know well what Ryan Garcia has done with the Devin Haney fight, he was found postive for PEDs and was subsequently suspended by the WBC for his erratic behavior.

Amid the recent uptick, there are many different measures that are considered in order to get some level of control back from the people who are hell bent on breaking the rules. Catching athletes using PEDs has turned extremely difficult in recent years and there needs to be a better strategy in place that can identify aggressors. Combat sports nee to rule by example when it comes to PEDs.
