Fans Demand Canelo Faces One Man Next As Terence Crawford Fight Is Now OFF

Terence Crawford was all set to move up two weight-classes to challenge unified super-middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez.

Though the fight has previously seemed unrealistic, the two pound-for-pound stars entered talks this year and looked to have made excellent process on the mega fight

However, the Ring Magazine, owned by Turki Alalshikh who was putting the fight deal together, has now reported in unequivocal terms that the fight is off.

While fans wait for the reason in talks breaking down for a fight that reportedly had both a date and venue, many took to social media to urge the Mexican to finally face David Benavidez

Benavidez – whose stock and pulling power has never been higher – has moved up to light-heavyweight after failing to secure his shot at Canelo when competing at super-middle. After winning his debut in the division via decision against Oleksandr Gvozdyk, earlier this month he came out on top of a stern test in the form of hard-hitting Cuban southpaw David Morrell.

The victory saw Benavidez leave the ring with both the WBC Interim belt and the WBA Regular title, putting him in prime position for a fight against the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol later this month.

There is the potential for a trilogy there if Bivol, who previously beat Canelo, can come out on top against undisputed champion Beterbiev at the second time of asking. With it being well known Canelo wants to avenge that defeat, what better way to earn it than beat number one contender David Benavidez, and tick off a dream fight for fans in the process?

Frank Warren says Tyson Fury would only return ‘because he’s a fighting man’ amid talk of Anthony Joshua bout

Will Tyson Fury return to the boxing ring after announcing his retirement from the sport? Fury’s promoter Frank Warren says he has “not even discussed” a comeback with the 36-year-old, despite hopes he would take on compatriot Anthony Joshua this year. Warren added that if Fury were to come out of retirement, it would not be driven by financial incentives.

Frank Warren says he is not trying to bring Tyson Fury out of retirement – but if it did happen it would be because Fury is a “fighting man”.
Fury, 36, made the shock announcement in January that he is stepping away from boxing, following back-to-back defeats to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
There are some who wonder whether Fury may reverse his decision for a trilogy bout with Usyk or a long-awaited all-British clash with Anthony Joshua.
For now, though, Fury seemingly is not planning a return.
“I’m not trying to bring him back, I’ve not even discussed it with him,” Fury’s promoter Warren told TNT Sports ahead of Derek Chisora v Otto Wallin, live on TNT Sports and discovery+, on Saturday, February 8. “He’s retired and that’s it.
“If he ever decided [to return] – and that’s a big if – it would be his decision to make with his family, I would certainly not try to encourage him in doing that.
“He has been a magnificent servant for British boxing, one of the two best heavyweights of the 21st century, done it at every level, won world titles in other guys’ backyards against good quality fighters.
“He has done everything that has been asked of him, and he has had a hard career in some respects. Some self-inflicted, and when you look the first time around when he won the world title, the problems he had, the depths of despair, the boozing, messing about with stuff he shouldn’t have been messing about with.
“That in itself is a mountain to climb, and he did that and showed what he is all about, his courage, and with the support of his family he went on to win and regain the world title.”
Fury has made a retirement U-turn before in 2022 and a bout with Joshua had been talked about for several years.

But Warren says it would not be the financial lure of a huge showdown with Joshua that would bring Fury back into the ring.
“He has just got to enjoy himself now,” Warren said. “He had a tough year last year, two world title fights, three training camps, it takes a lot of you and when you are in training camp you are not with your family, not seeing the kids grow up, missing chunks of their lives. He is with them now and is enjoying himself.
“He is financially secure, he has made stacks of money and good luck to him. He is a fighting man, if he comes back to fight – I am not saying he will, and to be honest I hope he doesn’t – but if he does, he’s not doing it for the money. If he does it it’s because he’s a fighting man.”

My power gave Tyson Fury horror cut and 47 stitches – now I want to spoil Derek Chisora’s retirement plan

Otto Wallin nearly pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the decade against Tyson Fury six years ago.

The Swedish giant was drafted in as a tune-up opponent for Tyson Fury – then an unbeaten heavyweight – in 2019 ahead of his much-anticipated rematch with Deontay Wilder.

In his previous outing, Fury had made quick work of Tom Schwarz inside two rounds, and Wallin was expected to fall to the same fate.

But the tricky southpaw proved to be a much sterner test than most had anticipated.

In the third round, Wallin opened a deep gash above Fury’s right eye with a cuffing blow that painted the Brit’s chest red.

As the fight wore on, the cut got worse and worse while Wallin targeted the wound.

Wallin used every trick in the book, including rubbing his glove on Fury’s cut, to deepen the laceration.

But some brilliant work from Fury’s cutman Jorge Capetillo kept Fury in the fight.

There were tense moments in the sixth stanza when the doctor examined his eye, and there were genuine fears that a medical stoppage could end Fury’s undefeated record six years before Oleksandr Usyk would achieve that very feat.

Yet Fury held on for a unanimous decision win, although he later required 47 stitches and plastic surgery due to the damage inflicted.

Speaking to talkSPORT in 2022, Wallin said: “I gave [Fury] his toughest fight of his career.

“Wilder knocked him down a few times, but no one has been able to match his skills like I did

“I landed more punches than anybody has done on him. I landed more punches than Wilder in the first fight and [Wladimir] Klitschko together.

“So, that’s a big statement in itself and of course, I can beat him, I know that and I think he knows that too, that’s why he never mentions my name anymore.”

Wallin’s stock rose tenfold from the performance, with the Swede later going on to earn himself a top 10 place in Ring Magazine heavyweight rankings after stringing together an impressive six-fight winning streak.

However, his position in the standings came crashing down when Anthony Joshua retired him on his stool at the end of the fifth round in December 2023.

But on Saturday night, he is back under the bright lights for more big-time boxing against Derek Chisora at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester.

Wallin wasn’t the first choice to face Chisora, with a bout against Jarrel Miller initially scheduled until it was called off due to a contractual dispute.

It is being billed as ‘Last Dance’ by Queensberry Promotions but Chisora is expected to have one final bow abroad before he calls time on his long and punishing career.

Providing Chisora comes through the contest unscathed, the 41-year-old is hoping to land a high-profile match-up with either Francis Ngannou in Africa or a trilogy with Dillian Whyte.

But a loss to Wallin could throw a spanner in the works.

“He Won’t Fight Me” World Champion With 75% KO Ratio Says He’d Destroy Terence Crawford’s Legacy: “He Won’t Fight Me”

Terence Crawford looks set to face Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, leaving behind the super-welterweight division after just one fight.

That bout, a points win over Israil Madrimov, came in October 2024 and made the American pound-for-pound star a four-weight world champion

Rather than stick around to unify the belts and perhaps become undisputed, something he has done in two of his four previous divisions, ‘Bud’ is slated to move up to super-middleweight for the Canelo mega fight.

If those plans fail for whatever reason, Bakhram Murtazaliev is waiting in the wings. The undefeated Russian won the vacant IBF Super-Welterweight World Title in April last year by stopping Jack Culcay in eleven rounds.

His first defence really put him on the map – a three-round destruction of Tim Tszyu. Speaking to Manouk Akopyan, the 32-year-old made it clear that he wanted to collect more belts.

“I would like to fight Crawford or [WBC Champion Sebastian] Fundora, maybe both.”

READ MORE ‘He doesn’t need to financially’ – Frank Warren reveals the only reason Tyson….

Murtazaliev, however, is realistic in his chances of landing the fight. Crawford has reportedly struck a deal with Canelo, likely leaving his WBA belt behind.

The IBF Champion believes he is too high risk for ‘Bud’ and that the defeat he would be so confident of delivering would hurt the pound-for-pound star’s legacy.

“Crawford fighting me is taking a big chance, because he can lose. If he loses, all of his work for all of those years, people are gonna turn against him. Like ‘oh yeah, he was not the best.’

If he goes up and fights Canelo, that’s two different weight classes, nobody’s gonna say he messed up, they’ll say that’s too heavy for him, he tried … That’s why the Crawford probably wouldn’t fight.”

Murtazaliev is instead likely to make a voluntary defence before seeking out Fundora, who puts his WBC belt on the line against Chordale Booker on March 22 in Las Vegas.

‘He doesn’t need to financially’ – Frank Warren reveals the only reason Tyson Fury would reverse retirement

Frank Warren insists Tyson Fury is ‘happy’ with life after boxing.

‘The Gypsy King’  left fans with their heads in their hands after retiring from the sport for a fourth time last month.

In doing so, he walked away from the long-awaited all-British showdown with Anthony Joshua while Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh was preparing an offer.

Several members of the boxing fraternity believe Fury has merely hung up his gloves as a means of driving up his purse for a lucrative clash against AJ.

However, Warren insists money wouldn’t be his primary motivation for returning to the ring.

“I’ve not bothered him and I’ve certainly not spoken to him about fighting again,” Fury’s promoter told the Ariel and Ade show on Tuesday.

“And if he does, that’s got to be his choice. He’s a very, very wealthy guy, he’s made a serious amount of money.

“He doesn’t need, financially, to fight. If he does fight, it’s because he’s got a fighting heart.

“Obviously he’ll get well paid if he does fight. But he’s got a fighting heart.”

Fury walked away from boxing after back-to-back losses at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk.

The Ukrainian slickster edged past Fury in a tight inaugural encounter via split decision in May 2024 before widening the margin to a unanimous decision victory in their December rematch.

Three weeks later, Fury took to social media to announce his retirement, and Warren isn’t expecting his client’s stance to change.

“Can he walk away from the sport? He says he has,” Warren added.

“And at this moment in time, he said to me, he’s really in a good place and that he’s very happy.

Tyson fury

“And I just want him now to enjoy his family and his life. He had a hard year last year.

“Three training camps one after another, one fight got cancelled because he got the cut eye.

“He needs now to go enjoy his life and enjoy being with his family, which is what he’s doing.”

Bakole or Wilder? Hearn denies Joshua has agreed next fight

Eddie Hearn has denied Anthony Joshua has agreed his next fight, saying the heavyweight is yet to begin talks with any opponent.

Speculation on social media had suggested Joshua could fight Martin Bakole or Deontay Wilder next.

With Joshua, 35, coming off a knockout loss to IBF champion Daniel Dubois in an all-British clash, Matchroom promoter Hearn says no concrete plans are in place.

“If you look at Twitter [X], he’s signed and agreed to fight Martin Bakole. Today it’s all signed for Wilder against Joshua on June 7th. [But with] both of those fights there hasn’t been one discussion yet,” Hearn said on the 5 Live Boxing with Steve Bunce podcast.

Congolese heavyweight Bakole has talked up a fight with Joshua in recent weeks, even suggesting he hurt the two-time heavyweight world champion in a sparring session.

But Hearn, who has promoted Joshua for the entirety of his professional career, laughed off the story, saying he has never witnessed Bakole “rock” Joshua in sparring.

“I think Martin Bakole is a very good fighter, but don’t get carried away that this is the new George Foreman,” Hearn said.

Joshua’s return to the summit of the heavyweight scene was halted by Dubois at Wembley last September as he suffered the fourth defeat of his career and second via stoppage.

He was expected to fight Dubois again, but opted out of talks for a rematch and Dubois will face Joseph Parker on 22 February instead.

Before Tyson Fury’s shock retirement announcement last month, anticipation had been building the Gypsy King might face Joshua.

But while that fight seems unlikely again, Hearn says Fury remains at the top of Joshua’s wishlist.

“It’s always been the two – Tyson Fury – who is retired at the moment, we’ll see how long that lasts, and the winner of Dubois-Parker,” Hearn said of Joshua’s ideal next opponent.

Joshua has history with both Dubois and Parker having stripped Parker of his WBO title in their 2018 unification fight.

Hearn is not confident Dubois will retain his IBF title, with Parker on a five-fight winning streak, including wins over Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.

“The first four, five rounds of that fight will be so important,” Hearn said of Dubois-Parker.

“If Parker can get through those rounds, you’ve got to put question marks back in Dubois’ head because right now I think he thinks he’s invincible.

“He’s buying into the hype. Which might be good for him. Dubois is a handful.

“I think he’s beatable and I think Parker is the guy to do it. Right now, a confident Daniel Dubois is a dangerous man.”

Teddy Atlas Didn’t Hesitate When Asked Who Would Get KO’d In A Prime George Foreman vs Mike Tyson Fight

Legendary trainer and analyst Teddy Atlas has had his say on who he believes was better between heavyweight legends Mike Tyson and George Foreman.

Tyson’s formidable prime came during the mid to late 1980s, where he became the youngest world heavyweight champion in boxing history with an explosive second round knockout win against Trevor Berbick in 1986.

He then went on to hold the undisputed championship between 1987 and 1990 before eventually surrendering his titles to James ‘Buster’ Douglas.

‘Big’ George’s glittering career came in two parts, which culminated in him becoming the oldest world heavyweight champion in boxing history in 1994. Foreman captured world honours for the first time in January 1973 in a famous second round stoppage win over Joe Frazier.

Speaking on VladTV, Atlas, who once trained Tyson, made no mistake in favouring ‘Big’ George as the better fighter out of the two, claiming the once-formidable puncher was ‘greater’ than ‘Iron’ Mike.

“Call me a hater, come on go ahead, he’s greater for me than Tyson, and Tyson’s great but he’s greater.”

Atlas would go on to detail how Foreman would have caught Tyson coming in.

“You ain’t gonna like this Tyson fans … Foreman’s style was wrong for Tyson. He would’ve came in trying to slip and bob and I think it would’ve been a replay of the fight with Foreman and Frazier, twice, and we all know what happened in that – Foreman knocked him out.

Bad style match up, the right punches to catch him, the size advantage. And they are from the same era do we don’t even have to play the game to conform and adjust. Foreman was naturally the bigger guy. He would’ve been able to catch Tyson coming in, time him. Foreman had a great chin. Tyson would’ve landed maybe a left hook, Foreman could’ve handled it.”

Foreman walked away from boxing in 1977 after a shock defeat to Jimmy Young, making his sensational return to the sport 10-years later. In November 1994 he defeated Michael Moorer via 10th round knockout to claim the WBA and IBF heavyweight titles, breaking the record for being the oldest heavyweight champion in history at 46 years and 169 days old.

A fight between ‘Big’ George and ‘Iron’ Mike never ended up materialising, although it was heavily speculated that the pair had been interested in facing each other in the early to mid 1990s, leaving fans wondering what could have happened in one of the great heavyweight showdowns that didn’t come to fruition.

‘Number One Heavyweight In The World’ Has Now ‘Signed’ To Fight Anthony Joshua: “It’s Done”

Anthony Joshua is likely to fight twice this year as he looks to bounce back from a fourth career loss.

‘Anthony Joshua’s latest defeat came at the hands of Daniel Dubois as he attempted to become a three-time world heavyweight champion

A bad first round for Joshua saw him knocked down before the bell and fail to properly recover fully thereafter. Just as he was beginning to get a foothold in the fight during the fifth round, he was caught again and put down, this time out for the count.

The Brit has rebuilt well after previous losses. His first came to Andy Ruiz in 2019 and in the immediate rematch six months later he won wide on the cards. After two back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, the former Olympic Gold Medalist then put together four wins against Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou before that fight with Dubuis derailed his progress once more.

It is now being reported by talkSPORT that Joshua will take on Martin Bakole, the division’s ‘most avoided heavyweight,’ later this year in Africa.

His promoter, Ben Shalom, was ringside at the weekend and revealed the news.

“The promoter of Martin Bakole, that’s what I want to be known as. The number one heavyweight in the world. It’s done. I’m hearing he’s signed [to fight Joshua] and we’re off to the Congo.”

Joshua’s team are yet to respond to the statement. His promoter Eddie Hearn has said the Bakole fight is on the table but that the immediate target is the winner on Dubois’ title defence against Joseph Parker later this month.

He had hoped to go into an epic fight with fellow British rival Tyson Fury but Fury’s retirement in January, following his own back-to-back defeats to Usyk, put a halt on that.

Bakole, who is scheduled to fight Efe Ajagba next in a final eliminator for the IBF’s mandatory position, has sparred many of the top heavyweights, including Joshua and Fury, but so far the best names on his record in the ring are Carlos Takam and Jared Anderson, both of whom he stopped. He has one defeat to Michael Hunter.

“He’ll Win” Roy Jones Jr Makes New Canelo vs Terence Crawford Prediction As Fight Agreed: “He’ll Win”

Terence Crawford looks to have landed a fight with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez after first mentioning it around 18 months ago.

Though initially dismissed by Alvarez, who holds three of the four major belts at super-middleweight, due to the American being naturally smaller and last competing two divisions down at super-welterweight.

Crawford persisted, however, and, with the backing of Saudi Arabia’s Turki Alalshikh, the fight looks set for September this year. It will see ‘Bud’ pack on a further 14 pounds should he want to come in at the 168 limit as he attempts to be the first man to beat Alvarez in that division.

Speaking to the Ring Magazine, multi-weight great Roy Jones Jr said that the outcome of the fight was in the Mexican’s hands and that, with the right gameplan, it goes in his favour.

“The weight won’t be the factor. The factor will be how Canelo chooses to make the fight. If Canelo comes out and does what Canelo should do, he wins the fight. If he comes out and does what he shouldn’t do, Crawford wins the fight.”

As for what that entails, Jones believes that if Alvarez lets Crawford control the centre, the American gets the victory and Canelo will be dealt just his third defeat in over 60 fights.

“If Crawford is allowed to control the centre of the ring, he’ll win.”

According to a member of Crawford’s team, the fight is set for September 13 in Las Vegas. While he is expected to sit on the sidelines until then, Canelo is readying an announcement for a May opponent.

Congratulation as Claressa Shields Beats Danielle Perkins to Become Undisputed Heavyweight Champion

Claressa Shields continued her case as the GWOAT with a unanimous decision win over Danielle Perkins to become the undisputed heavyweight champion in front of a hometown crowd at the Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan.

The stark size difference was noticable from the jump. Perkins’ build as a legitimate heavyweight towered over Shields

However, it didn’t take long for the big skills gap to show up either. Shields took it to her opponent and immediately put pressure on Perkins to return fire.

The GWOAT had her first major moment in the third round when she rocked Perkins with a clean right hand.

Perkins did settle in to some degree after the first few rounds. Former welterweight champion Shawn Porter gave Perkins a round after she forced Shields into some exchanges.

If there’s a criticism to be made of Shields it was that she may have taken her foot off the gas in the later rounds. She was countering Perkins hard, but wasn’t exactly going all-out to finish the fight.

That was, until she landed an absolute missile of a right hand that floored Perkins in the final seconds.

Shields had previously won the WBC heavyweight championship, but her victory over Perkins added the previously vacant WBO and IBF championship belts to her stacked trophy case. Shields now holds active belts in three different weight classes with two middleweight titles and the WBO light heavyweight championship currently on her resume.

READ MORE : live results, Claressa Shields vs. Danielle Perkins  round-by-round updates…

In total, Shields has won world titles in five different weight classes and it’s hard to come up with who can really give her a challenge on paper.

The 29-year-old wasn’t even calling out any of her potential opponents in women’s boxing. She did, however, have some words for YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

“Jake Paul cannot beat me in a fight,” she told Patrick Snell of CNN. “Anybody who thinks that needs to just go and wash their face and brush their teeth and kind of wake up and smell the real air in the world.”

She went on to say that she didn’t think Paul would accept a fight against her but extended an invitation to spar with her.

That alone would probably do well if it were offered as a public broadcast.

As it stands, the biggest challenge for Shields is going to be finding opponents that can generate some interest in her fights. Shields has mentioned IBF light heavyweight champion Lani Daniels as a possible challenger and undefeated WBA light heavyweight champion Che Kenneally could be another option.

But Shields would still be a prohibitive favorite against those world champions.
