Oleksandr Usyk will discover if he will face Daniel Dubois next within the next few days.

Dubois and Usyk met in a huge showdown in 2023 which saw the latter pick up the victory after surviving a controversial ‘low blow’.

Usyk recently beat Tyson Fury twice, while Dubois knocked out Anthony Joshua, which sees the pair now holding all four of the heavyweight world titles.

Dubois was set to defend his IBF title against Joseph Parker, but was forced to withdraw and instead appears to prioritise an undisputed clash with Usyk.

Stumbling blocks could sit in the way with the IBF set to order Dubois to face Derek Chisora, while the WBO will likely order Usyk to face Parker.

But it is understood an undisputed bout will take precedent, and a July date is being reserved at the UK’s 90,000 capacity Wembley Stadium.

When giving a new update on the clash, Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk insists a resolution has to be made imminently so an agreement is in place in time for the date.

He told Sky Sports: “If undisputed makes itself possible – it will be the priority.

“We will come to know it within the next couple of days.”

Usyk always keeps in shape and is waiting anxiously to see if he can land yet another undisputed bout.

The Ukrainian entered the history books and became the first undisputed champion since 1999, when he beat Fury in May last year.

And now after wiping Fury out, a sequel with Dubois would cement his name as the division’s leading star.

Parker is also a credible option having earned his shot, and Usyk is yet to touch gloves with the New Zealander.

Initially it appeared the Briton himself could look to reschedule his bout with Parker.

‘Dynamite’ has too become hot property in the division, and is confident he is the best positioned to stop Usyk for the first time.

He said: “Definitely July, a big fight in July against Usyk. That’s what I want.

A third swing in the sport, having returned to MMA for a PFL MMA championship bout against Renan Ferreira, whom he breezed past with ease in the very first round, appears to be on the cards.

“It’s Wilder and Ngannou,” Scott said, in an interview with SpacesportSweden. “Especially them doing it in Africa, two African kings going at it and … going against each other for the type of money that they will make. And doing it in Africa would be incredible. And if there’s one man that can get this done, it’s Turki Alalshikh.”

“I think Ngannou is doing well. I think he’s a very brave man, I think he’s very courageous. He’s always called out the best in the UFC. He’s calling out the best in boxing.

Regardless of the esteem Scott holds Ngannou in, he expects a dominant victory for his fighter.

“If we get to go against him, he is going to get to feel the wrath of Deontay Wilder,” he said. “If Deontay Wilder hits him with his best shot, he goes to sleep.”

Scott continued: “Deontay always wanted to fight in Africa. So I’m sure he’s very excited about it. If there’s something that he’s going to entertain, this is something he’s always wanted to do anyway.”

In a recent interview with FightHype TV, the 52-year-old promoter claimed that he plans on having a homecoming fight for Oritz at the home of the Dallas Cowboys. “Vergil is coming off two tough fights which can be tough on the body as well and tough on the mind. I’m thinking about doing a homecoming party for him in Dallas and fight a top 10 guy. Then go after Fundora and then go after Crawford after he comes back down to 154 after he fights Canelo at 168,” stated De La Hoya.

The promoter’s worry for his fighter is valid as these fights are intense. However, this predicament has provided a golden opportunity for Errol Spence Jr., as De La Hoya wants him to be Ortiz’s opponent. Not only that, the promoter promises good pay if the fight is secured. “There’s a lot of options out there for Vergil. I’m excited. Imagine if we can put together a Vergil-Spence fight at Dallas Stadium at the Cowboys Stadium. That would sell out the place. I think that’s something to consider as well,” he stated.

The decision entirely lies on Spence as this fight can truly serve as a perfect comeback opportunity. A sold-out fight against one of the hottest stars in welterweight, followed by a title fight against a rival that he has desired for a long time.

A title fight is still open

Last year, a rumored Sebastian Fundora vs Errol Spence‘s fight completely overtook the narrative. It fight not only intrigued the fans but promised to be a hard-hitting affair that everyone desired. But, as WBO refused to sanction the anticipated title fight, it was shelved. The whole predicament left The Towering Inferno out of action for almost a year after winning his WBO title.

Despite these circumstances, it looks like Fundora is ready to put aside every issue for a dance against Spence. In a recent interview with Boxing Scene, he claimed, “Of course I want that fight,” showing his excitement over the possible bout. He was not able to hide his disappointment at everything that conspired in the last few months. “It’s a big fight; it’s a big, big fight, but of course, it didn’t happen,” sighed Fundora.

After the disappointment, the unified super welterweight champion successfully defended his title against Chordale Booker on March 22 via a 4th-round TKO. Following the impressive victory, he would most likely take on WBO’s number-one ranked Xander Zayas.

While there are lots of variables, if everything falls in place, we might see a Fundora-Spence clash in either late 2025 or early 2026. However, everything depends on how Errol Spence Jr. is feeling at the moment and when he will come back. Till then, all these plans are just pipe dreams. Unified world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk wants the undisputed title clash with Daniel Dubois but a mandatory defence against Joseph Parker remains an option; unbeaten champion Usyk holds the WBO, WBA and WBC heavyweight titles, while Britain’s Dubois has picked up the IBF belt

An undisputed world heavyweight championship bout with Britain’s Daniel Dubois remains “the priority” for Oleksandr Usyk and a decision on his next fight could be made this week.

He had to vacate the IBF heavyweight belt to take his December rematch with Tyson Fury. The Ukrainian won that second Fury fight and remains the unbeaten holder of the WBO, WBC and WBA world heavyweight titles.

Dubois picked up the IBF championship which he defended against former champion Anthony Joshua last year. After losing to Usyk in 2023, Dubois has been calling for his shot at revenge.

Usyk, though, has been ordered to make a mandatory defence of his WBO belt against heavyweight contender Joseph Parker.

That is an option for the Ukrainian star, but setting a unification fight would take precedence over a mandatory obligation. In that case the WBO could allow Usyk to box Dubois first.

An agreement one way or the other should be reached soon, otherwise the WBO will call for Usyk vs Parker to go to purse bids.

Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk revealed to Sky Sports that fighting Dubois is their preference.

“If undisputed makes itself possible – it will be the priority,” he told Sky Sports.

If Usyk is on course to fight Parker or Dubois next, Krassyuk noted: “We will come to know it within the next couple of days.”

Biggest fight in boxing today?

Promoter Frank Warren previously told Sky Sports: “We’re working at this moment on what his [Dubois’] next fight will be.

“He’s got some options there but the fight I’d love to see happen would be him against Usyk. For obvious reasons: the four belts on the line, the controversy of the first fight [Warren disputes the low blow that dropped Usyk]. And the fact that, in my opinion, Daniel’s come on and become a different fighter over the last 18 months or so.

“Whether it’s Riyadh or Wembley, it is the biggest fight in boxing, and if it’s at Wembley it’ll sell out.

“I prefer it to be in the summer, for obvious reasons. It’s an open-air show.”

It was one of those fights that Holyfield felt Mayweather should have lost though, after he was asked by Sports Inquirer if he thought Pacquiao should have got the verdict in their clash

Holyfield then explained what he saw in the fight that made him come to that decision.

“The fact of the matter is, you’re the more aggressive one, you hit him with the shots… Pacquiao seem to hit him (Mayweather) more times than he hit Pacquiao.”

Holyfield himself knows what it is like to have been involved in some closely-fought battles, with his initial fight with Lennox Lewis in March 1999 one that was controversial after many felt ‘The Real Deal’ was fortunate to come away with a draw.

Another heavyweight icon that Holyfield fought during his career was the late, great George Foreman, with the two legends meeting in April 1991. Just like Holyfield, ‘Big George’ also once named a fight that he feels Mayweather should have lost.

The former Olympic gold medalist turned professional in October 2013 and racked up 20 consecutive knockout wins which took him all the way to the IBF title, and then an epic unification fight with Wladimir Klitschko which saw him add the WBA and IBO belts to his waist.

It was Joseph Parker who was the first man to take ‘AJ’ the distance, but he still surrendered his WBO belt in the process. Joshua’s first loss came to Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019, but he avenged it later that year to regain his belts before once more losing them to Oleksandr Usyk and failing to win them back in a rematch in 2022.

A series of four rebuild wins saw him stop the likes of Robert Helenius, Francis Ngannou and Otto Wallin before young IBF strap holder Daniel Dubois derailed his quest to become a three-time world champion by knocking him out at Wembley Stadium in the fifth round last September.

Many hoped Joshua would fight Tyson Fury before his career ended, but instead, Fury retired at the start of January.

Posting on Instagram, Joshua quoted from the 2002 film ‘Paid in Full’ to make his point that he could now leave ‘the game’ with the money he has made, but questioned whether he would still get the fan admiration if he were to hang up the gloves

“I love the game. I love the hustle. I feel like one of them ball players you know? Like Bird, Magic, James, Jordan, Kobe or something. You know I got dough, I could leave the league… But if I leave.…………. Are the fans still gonna love me, man? I get love out here in streets man.”

One option for Joshua right now is a rematch with Dubois, though ‘DDD’ has made it clear that he would prefer a rematch with Usyk for the chance to become undisputed champion. Parker is another in-form fighter who wants a second shot at Joshua.

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder will complete their trilogy battle for the WBC heavyweight championship on Oct. 9, Top Rank Boxing announced Thursday.

The fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas initially was scheduled for July 24 before Fury’s positive COVID-19 test forced its postponement last Thursday. He has since tested negative and has been cleared to travel, ESPN reported.

“I wanted nothing more than to smash the ‘Big Dosser’ on July 24, but I guess the beating will have to wait,” the 32-year-old Fury said in a statement. “Make no mistake, I will be back and better than ever. We will fight Oct. 9, and I will knock him spark out!”

Shelly Finkel, Wilder’s manager, said his charge is ready for the third bout.

“This is what we went to arbitration for,” Finkel said. “He just wanted what was owed to him. He remains ready to reclaim his world title on Oct. 9.”

The first Fury-Wilder meeting in December 2018 ended in a disputed draw. Fury won the rematch in February 2020 when Wilder’s corner threw in the towel in the seventh round. Neither has appeared in the ring since.

Fury, a 6-foot-9 Englishman dubbed “The Gypsy King,” is 30-0-1 with 21 knockouts. Wilder, a 6-foot-7 American known as “The Bronze Bomber,” is 42-1-1 with 41 knockouts.

Former cruiserweight world champion Tony Bellew has backed Anthony Joshua to defeat Daniel Dubois should they meet again in a rematch of their September 2024 bout, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Speaking to First Round TV, Bellew expressed confidence in Joshua’s abilities despite his previous defeat to Dubois.

“If they were to have a rematch I’d favour Josh going in. He has better attributes than Daniel Dubois, but it’s all about the mindset,” Bellew said.

The first fight between the two British heavyweights saw Dubois score a heavy knockdown at the end of the first round before finishing Joshua with a conclusive knockout in the fifth.

Joshua had been rebuilding his career following back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk with knockout victories over Francis Ngannou, Otto Wallin and Robert Helenius.

There was talk of an immediate rematch after Joshua’s loss to Dubois, but the British-Nigerian instead took time out to recover from injury while hoping to secure a blockbuster showdown with long-time rival Tyson Fury, who has since retired at the start of the year.

Dubois was scheduled to fight Joseph Parker in February but withdrew due to illness. He has now been mandated to defend his IBF strap against 49-fight veteran Derek Chisora.

The more likely fight for Dubois is a rematch with Usyk for the undisputed title, while Joshua may take on Parker if Fury remains in retirement.

Meanwhile, Joshua has been connecting with fans in Lagos, Nigeria. In a video shared on X.com on Sunday, excited onlookers greeted him with cheers and fist-bumps as the boxer jogged down the street.

In his post, Joshua shared his thoughts on fan support, comparing himself to basketball legends.

“I love the game. I love the hustle. I feel like one of them ball players you know? Like Bird, Magic, James, Jordan, Kobe or something,” he wrote.

“You know I got dough, I could leave the game… But if I leave… Are the fans still gonna love me, man? I get love out here in (the) streets man.”
