‘It is something I would really like to do’: Alex Pereira wants boxing match with Oleksandr Usyk

Alex Pereira wants to be a three-sport world champion.

A former two-division Glory kickboxing champion, Pereira transitioned to MMA and then joined the UFC in 2021, where he quickly put together one of the most accomplished careers in UFC history. A former middleweight champion and the reigning light heavyweight king, “Poatan” has already accomplished more than most fighters could dream of, but he’s not ready to stop there. Because aside from his ambition to bump up and challenge for the heavyweight title, Pereira also hopes to one day compete inside the boxing ring as well.

“I don’t know, I think anything is possible. It’s something I can’t plan, but it is something I would really like to do.”

That’s something that I really want,” Pereira told the Jaxxon Podcast via a Portuguese translator. “I’m under contract with the UFC. We know [Conor] McGregor did it. I don’t know how I would, but someday I would really like to do it.”

Pereira has some experience with boxing already, making his professional debut back in 2017 and winning by third-round TKO. But Poatan isn’t talking about just dipping his toe in the water, he wants to jump right into the deep end of the pool.

“I’m the champ. I would like to fight the champ,” Pereira said. “So Oleksandr Usyk …

“I think it’s a very good fight. I love boxing. I see some people talking, ‘Oh, if it were pure boxing he would be lost’. Man, when you talk pure boxing, I feel great. I think I could fight these guys out there. I’ve already done some sparring with experienced guys, Plinio [Cruz, his coach] knows it, and they’re winning everything there.”

The 2012 Olympic gold medalist boxer at heavyweight, Usyk is one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world at the moment and moving up the ranks of all-time greats following his pair of wins over Tyson Fury in 2024. That suggests this would be a monumentally difficult task, but Pereira’s coach has full faith in his ability.

“Me, personally, I’ve put him already to spar some world-class, top-10 heavyweight boxers,” Plinio Cruz added. “Guys with names, real good names that I’m not going to mention, but he did really good, so I think he could do good. I believe in him.”

Pereira is scheduled to make the fourth defense of his light heavyweight title against Magomed Ankalaev in the main event of UFC 313 on March 8.

You can’t KO him : Disagreeing With Jake Paul, Boxing Legend Warns Terence Crawford About Fighting Canelo Alvarez

The Canelo Alvarez–Terence Crawford showdown being negotiated for September in Las Vegas is a fight that everyone wants to see. The mere idea of the fight happening has got the whole combat sports world buzzing and everyone is looking forward to it.

However, the potential fight has also created a split among the boxing community as experts and fighters are sharing their predictions. On Tuesday, Jake Paul surprised everyone by choosing ‘Bud’ as his winner in a fight where Canelo is clearly the heavy favorite. However, one of the greatest boxers ever, the Mexican boxing legend Julio César Chávez, has now given his own two cents regarding the rumored bout.

Canelo Alvarez for the win?

A few days ago, ESNEWS caught up with the three-weight world champion and asked him about the upcoming potential bout. With no doubt and hesitation in his voice, the 107-6 boxer confidently predicted, “Canelo will knock him out in six or seven rounds.”

While the unified super middleweight champion has been a heavy favorite in the prediction battle, unlike Chavez, everyone thinks that Crawford will pose a huge challenge for Canelo. However, the 62-year-old thinks that the Omaha native won’t even go the distance against Canelo. Given everything that Bud Crawford has achieved, this sure seems surprising.

However, Chavez has no doubts about the former pound-for-pound king’s ability but the weight discrepancy will be too much despite his superior skills. “Crawford is good fighter but there’s weight classes,” Julio César Chávez explained. This has been a constant trend in the predictions for this dream match. While no one has any doubts about Terence Crawford’s abilities, the majority thinks that he won’t be able to put on the 13lbs extra weight and still hope to move as fast as Canelo, who has been at super middleweight for years now. Except for a few, who think that the weight won’t matter much if the Omaha native is in form.

Terence Crawford’s superior skills will help him outright Canelo

As Jake Paul appeared on the first episode of the Ring Champs podcast hosted by Akin “Ak” Reyes and Barak Bess on the All The Smoke YouTube channel, he shared his verdict on the fight. He thinks that it will be an interesting bout because no one has seen ‘Bud’ this heavy. However, as the Southpaw has proven himself in multiple divisions, it won’t matter to him. Furthermore, Paul thinks “that Terrence has the skill and is a bit fresher than Canelo. If I had to put my money on it, I would probably go with Terrence.”

Terence Crawford

While Jake Paul definitely surprised everyone with his choice, he is not the only one preferring the super welterweight over Canelo Alvarez. The undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk joined Steve Kim and Mario Lopez in The 3 Knockdown Rule podcast recently. While discussing the fight, Usyk had a proud expression and made it clear where his heart goes. “I like Terrence; it’s …my friend, but it’s crazy man. Listen, I… I say Terence win yes, …Terrence win, but listen, Terence, it’s different, man. Terence work in two… two sides—right and left, but it’s very smart, man. It’s very, very very smart, but feel, distance and the place…” stated Usyk picking Terence Crawford as his favorite.

Whether the majority will be proven right or the few supporting Terence Crawford will laugh at everyone in the end, we will find out soon enough. Till then, seeing the boxing world split over this headache of a question has been fun. Do you think Canelo Alvarez will win via KO? Let us know your thoughts down below.

“He’s The Best After Usyk” Tony Bellew Has No Doubt Who He Now Rates Higher Between Fury And Dubois: “He’s The Best After Usyk”

Daniel Dubois recently joined Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury at the top table of British, and indeed world, heavyweights.

The 27-year-old bounced back from a loss to Oleksandr Usyk, his first world title tilt, with three statement stoppages wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Joshua

Having been elevated to IBF World Champion when Usyk vacated the belt, on paper it would seem that Dubois is now the second best in the world after the Ukrainian has absolutely secured the top spot with wins over all three Brits mentioned – twice against both Fury and ‘AJ.’

However, speaking to Fightlens, former cruiserweight world champion turned pundit Tony Bellew believes Fury’s performances in his fights against Usyk still make him number two.

“I think both are amazing fighters. Tyson Fury will be back 100%, if he wants to, that is. And I think he’s the second-best heavyweight in the world.”

Fury lost via split decision in the first bout with Usyk and unanimously in the rematch, however believes he did enough to win both contests. With that sour taste, he recently announced his retirement from the sport of boxing at the age of 36.

It leaves a lucrative and long-awaited bout with Joshua on the table – many feel the announcement that he will hang up the gloves is a bargaining chip on Fury’s part and that the fight will still be made at one point this year.

Though Dubois has a tough test in Joseph Parker next month and then his sights firmly set on a rematch with Usyk for the chance to become undisputed champion, he has also expressed an interest in facing the winner of Fury vs Joshua should it happen.

No Doubt as Jake Paul Sides With the Minority on Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford

Dreams do come true. If not, how can anyone explain the way that Terence Crawford vs. Canelo Alvarez fight talks have been progressing after being at a standstill for years? Ever since the reports of the fight taking place came forward, the boxing world has been buzzing over it.

Fans, experts, and active fighters have all embraced the excitement of the fight, making their predictions known to the world. Expectedly, Canelo Alvarez has been coming out as a heavy favorite in almost all of the early predictions. However, out of the blue, there have been some people putting their hopes on Bud, and on Tuesday, Jake Paul joined that rather short list as shared his prediction for the fight.

The weight class makes it interesting for Jake Paul

On Tuesday, Jake Paul, alongside his partner Nakisa Bidarian, appeared on the first episode of the Ring Champs podcast hosted by Akin “Ak” Reyes and Barak Bess on the All The Smoke YouTube channel. During the interview, Reyes asked ‘The Problem Child’ for his opinion on their potential fight.

READ MORE : Jaron Ennis Fully Views and Rates Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford As A….

With a calculative look on his face, El Gallo claimed that it would be an interesting fight because of the weight discrepancy between them. The fight carries a mystery factor as Bud has to gain almost 13 lbs for the fight. “It’s interesting because of the weight class. We haven’t seen Terrence go up there but and will he have the power?” queried Jake Paul, expressing his concerns about whether Bud can match the unified super middleweight champion’s skills at such a higher weight.

However, the 27-year-old also believes that the former two-division undisputed world champion has more than enough skills to counter Canelo and he has proven it time and time again. “I do think that Terrence has the skill and is a bit fresher than Canelo,” stated Paul hopefully. The Omaha native only fought once last year, whereas the Guadalajara fought twice. Given everything that has to go right for Bud, Jake Paul still thinks, “If I had to put my money on it I would probably go with Terrence,” surprising everyone on the episode.

The Problem Child has definitely gone against the trend to choose Terence Crawford, as the majority of the combat world is more inclined towards the unified super middleweight champion.

Canelo Alvarez: The heavy favorite

Even during the podcast, Nakisa Bidarian immediately disagreed with his partner and claimed, “I think Canelo destroys him(Crawford),” in a defining tone. Moreover, that has been the exact tone of the rest of the boxing world.

A few months ago, in a conversation with FightHype, Matchroom honcho Eddie Hearn predicted Canelo Alvarez would massively dominate the fight because of the weight discrepancy. “Crawford can’t really come to fight—in that fight because he’s at a massive, massive size disadvantage,” stated Hearn.

Not only Hearn, but even Demetrius Andrade had the same opinion. He told FightHubTV that even though Terence Crawford is a good friend, “when it comes to weight, empowerment, that s**t is real. Canelo is a big bad wolf… I think Crawford has the skills, but when it comes to Saul getting shots and blocking his power shots, Canelo knows how to move, too,” and termed it as a losing battle for Crawford.

Terence Crawford

The WBC interim light heavyweight champion David Benavidez, who also wants a fight with Canelo Alvarez kept his grudge aside and acknowledged, “Crawford is a one-of-a-kind fighter, but weight classes must be respected. I’d give Canelo the edge.”

Whether Terence Crawford succumbs to the weight discrepancy against Canelo Alvarez or will Jake Paul’s prediction be proven right? Only time will tell. But till then, it is fun to collect everyone’s chits for the fight. Let us know your thoughts down below.

Joe Rogan blown away by what podcast guest told him about moment between Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali

Joe Rogan has interviewed some of the biggest names in combat sports on his podcast.

Past Joe Rogan Experience guests include the likes of Tyson Fury, Francis Ngannou and Terrence Crawford.

And the UFC commentator has even interviewed former heavyweight world champion and boxing icon Mike Tyson on his show.

But Rogan never had the opportunity to meet the legendary Muhammad Ali before the heavyweight great died in 2016.

One of his recent guests, however, did. And he stunned Rogan with a story of meeting both Ali and Tyson at the same time while backstage at a Julio Cesar Chavez fight.

Josh Brolin, the Hollywood actor who has starred in the Marvel mega-hit franchise The Avengers, was a guests on the JRE last year. Evidently a huge boxing fan, the 56-year-old told Rogan about the time he met the two boxing greats.

“I actually went to go see Julio Cesar Chavez fight, and that’s when I met [Mike] Tyson in the green room, and I met, at the same time, Muhammad Ali,” Brolin said.

“Wow… that’s a heavy moment,” Rogan replied, in awe.

“As a boxing fan, that was a real moment,” Brolin said.

The actor also told a story about the time he attended a Tyson fight when the power-puncher was at his peak. He couldn’t recall the name of Tyson’s opponent on that night, but he clearly remember the way the expression on the fighter’s face changed the second “Iron Mike” entered the ring.

“I went to go see this fight, and Tyson was fighting, and this guy was doing this stuff before, and he had this cut; he had built himself into confidence, and Mike came out afterward,” Brolin said.

“And I watched his face. And I watched that confidence bleed from his face instantaneously.

“He had absolutely lost the fight long before Mike had ever gotten in the ring.”

Tyson returned to in-ring action last year at the age of 58 after a 20-year absence, losing a decision to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in an event broadcast live on Netflix.

A former guest on Joe Rogan’s podcast believes the show is partly responsible for the rise of disinformation online.

American archaeologist Flint Dibble appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience last year to have a live debate with Graham Hancock.

Hancock, the former foreign correspondent for The Economist, is a proponent of a widely discredited pseudo archeological theory that there once existed an advanced Ice Age civilisation that was destroyed in a global cataclysm.

Across a four-and-a-half-hour episode that has been viewed more than six million times on YouTube, Flint debated Hancock and sought to disprove his theory.

And the archaeologist has since reported having mixed feelings about appearing on the show.

Mike Tyson

“After doing it, I have started growing an audience interested in hearing about 21st century archaeology,” Dibble told The Times. “On the other hand, I have also been targeted for nonstop trolling from believers of all forms of fake archaeology, from lost civilisations like Atlantis to mysterious aliens or ancient supertechnology.”

Rogan later criticised Dibble in a subsequent episode, saying, “People like Flint just out-and-out lie.”

Dibble responded by posting an “open letter” to Rogan on his own YouTube channel.

Rogan began his podcast in 2009 and it has since grown to become one of the biggest and most listened-to shows in the genre, with 19 million YouTube subscribers and averaging more than 11 million downloads per episode.

In 2020, Rogan signed a deal with Spotify worth a reported $100 million, giving the streaming giant exclusive rights to the podcast. And the UFC commentator renewed his Spotify agreement last year for $250 million.

The influence of Rogan and his podcast is such that he is credited with having played a significant role in Donald Trump’s re-election as US president after having the politician appear on his show last year and they officially endorsing the Republican candidate.

Flint told The Times he believes Rogan has played a hand in the recent rise of disinformation, in light of Meta scrapping fact-checking measures and Trump’s second term in the White House.

“We should expect more misinformation,” he said, “and more attempts by loud conspiracists to cancel experts and scholars in our world.”

Joe Rogan has one non-negotiable rule on his podcast as former guest makes ‘extraordinary’ claim

Joe Rogan has one non-negotiable rule on his podcast that only relates to him, it has been claimed.

Rogan’s podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, launched back in 2009 and has since become one of the most popular and lucrative podcasts in the world.

He signed a new $250 million contract with Spotify – previously the podcast’s exclusive home – to air the show on other platforms from February 2024, as per The Wall Street Journal.

Rogan invites a range of guests onto the show from the worlds of popular culture, sport and even politics, with incoming US President Donald Trump making an appearance in October prior to the 2024 election.

That is, according to Spotify, the most popular episode of the podcast ever broadcast, with comedian Adam Sandler, Elon Musk and WWE legend The Rock listed as other top guests.

The Times noted how Rogan ‘thinks he should be able to say anything, at any time’ – a rule that has been utilised throughout the podcast’s history and is a reason why it is so popular for some viewers.

Louis Theroux, a previous guest of the show, labelled Rogan’s success as ‘extraordinary’ in a 2020 interview with British GQ, adding: “He’s a powerhouse … what you see with him is the ability to stand outside conventional political alignments, and outside any sort of structure that will inhibit him from speaking to whom he wants to speak to and saying what he wants to say.”

Mike Tyson

Another previous guest, the American cosmologist and author Brian Keating, once named the most surprising thing he noticed about the UFC commentator after appearing on the podcast.

“He comes off as a character but can be deadly serious,” Keating began.

“When it [the show] was all over, we posed for a few pictures, and then he left for the bathroom. Which was, I realised in hindsight, his form of Irish goodbye! I didn’t see him again.”

Joe Rogan has been told by a UFC star ‘to never ask one question’ again ahead of his title defence at UFC 311.

UFC’s first pay-per-view card of 2025 is just days away as the famed Octagon sets up shop in Los Angeles, California, for UFC 311.

Not one but TWO blockbuster UFC title fights feature on the card, with Islam Makhachev putting his UFC lightweight title on the line against former foe Arman Tsarukyan.

And UFC bantamweight king Merab Dvalishvili defends his championship against Umar Nurmagomedov – cousin of UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Ahead of making the first defence of his UFC bantamweight belt, Dvalishvili has warned Rogan not to ask him one question again.

He doesn’t want to be asked about potentially fighting teammate Aljamain Sterling, having previously been questioned about a possible showdown.

Speaking on the Verse Us with Eric Nicksick podcast, Dvalishvili said: “I said don’t ask me this question [about fighting Sterling] during press conference or media day. I was like I have to win first [against Aldo] and Aljo already has a fight… And when Joe Rogan asked me again and Aljo is there, ‘Hey, are you going to fight Aljo?’ And like I said, Please don’t ask me this question anymore.”

Teammates Dvalishvili and Sterling competed alongside each other in the same division when ‘Aljo’ was the 135lbs title holder.

Amid the American’s title reign, Dvalishvili knocked off plenty of top contenders, including Marlon Moraes, Jose Aldo, Petr Yan and Henry Cejudo.

But Dvalishvili eventually fought for UFC gold when Sterling was defeated by Sean O’Malley.

The Georgian dethroned O’Malley of the UFC bantamweight title at UFC 306.

As for Sterling, he has since moved up in weight to the featherweight division, where he has gone 1-1 in his two fights at 145lbs.

He outpointed Calvin Kattar at UFC 300 before losing a decision to Movsar Evloev at UFC 310 last month.

Sterling is set to remain at featherweight while Dvalishvili holds the UFC bantamweight title.

‘Surprised’ Joe Rogan podcast guest reveals what happens when recording his show

Jonathan Zimmerman, a professor of education and history at the University of Pennsylvania and the author of ‘Free Speech and Why You Should Give a Damn’, appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast in August 2021.

Here, he spoke about education, marriage and work, as well as his experiences as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal in the early 1980s.

After appearing on the show, Zimmerman opened up on his experience in a column for the Philadelphia Inquirer – and it was a fascinating insight into what goes on behind the curtain.

“Last spring, I was invited to appear on Joe Rogan’s show. My first reaction was surprise: Why me? I’m not a comedian (like Rogan), or a martial-arts fighter (ditto), or a celebrity who likes to push the envelope (Elon Musk, Jordan Peterson),” began Zimmerman, who wrote the piece in 2022.

“I am just a nerdy college professor who writes books that very few people choose to read. (My mom says they’re very good.)”

The 63-year-old described the building Rogan tapes in as a “low-slung” and “nondescript” structure on the outskirts of Austin, Texas. “The show doesn’t pay guests, but it did fly me down there,” Zimmerman added.

“When I arrived, I was told that Rogan was caught in the city’s notorious traffic. ‘The Californians are clogging the roads,’ one of his assistants groused. I pointed out that Rogan himself had recently moved to Austin from California. We both laughed.

After speaking about getting a COVID-19 test by a nurse Rogan employs, Zimmerman moved on to praising the host, who arrived late after a workout had “gone a little longer than usual”.

Zimmerman added: “He’s also really nice, which is something you might not pick up from the tweets and headlines. Every controversial remark — about COVID-19, or race, or gender — probably makes you think, Wow, what a callous jerk.

“I can assure you he isn’t. He thanked me for flying down, asked about my family, and joked about the Austin traffic. We chatted for a few minutes while he waited for his own COVID-19 test results — negative, thank God — and then he ushered me into his studio, which looks pretty much as you’d expect: dark tones, comfy chairs, and a big neon sign with his name on it.”

Zimmerman would later describe Rogan as a “genuinely curious person”, which is “something else you don’t pick up from social-media shock reports” but criticised him for spreading “harmful” misinformation on COVID-19.

“He knows what to ask. And he knew what he didn’t know, which was the most refreshing thing of all,” Zimmerman added.

Mike Tyson

“I realize that he has been far too credulous with some of his guests, buying their misinformation wholesale instead of critically assessing it. But I really enjoyed our conversation. It was an all-too-rare pleasure to converse with someone who actually wanted to listen instead of just talk.”

He added: “I work at a university, so I’m surrounded by colleagues who often think they know everything. Rogan makes no such pretense. When we were discussing Nepal and I mentioned “untouchable” castes, it was clear he hadn’t heard the term. So he simply asked me what it meant, which is the only way we learn anything.”

“I Would Have KO’d Him Easy” Heavyweight Legend Says Mike Tyson Wasn’t The Fighter Everyone Thinks: “I Would Have KO’d Him Easy”

Mike Tyson is one of the most fearsome heavyweights of all time but one legend of the sport still believes he could have beaten him if he’d faced him in his prime.

Tyson knocked out all of the first 19 men he faced inside the opening six rounds, and 12 of them inside the first. He was the youngest ever fighter to become a world heavyweight champion when he did so aged 20, and that record still stands today almost four decades on

He has famous fights with the likes of Frank Bruno and Evander Holyfield, both of whom he fought twice, while also suffering a historic upset loss to Buster Douglas in Tokyo.

In 1988, he took on former champion Larry Holmes, when ‘The Easton Assassin’ was making one of his late career comebacks and was past his best.

‘Iron Mike’ won that night but speaking to Go For It Radio, Holmes claimed he would be victorious within the first half of the fight had he have fought him in his prime.

“Mike, sorry man, I’m just telling you, you’re a great guy man, but you can take a punch, you can’t take a punch from Larry Holmes though.

“Man, three or four rounds man, five rounds, I’d get him out of there, If I got Earnie Shavers out of there, if I got Gerry Cooney out of there, if I got Kenny Norton out of there, if I can get them out of there why can’t I get Mike Tyson out of there?”

In a interview with Sky Sports Holmes dismissed Tyson’s record and said he could never have survived in his era.

“No [Tyson couldn’t have survived in my era]. Jo Frazier would beat him up at his own style. No [he couldn’t survive in that era]. Ali? He’s slap him all day with the jab. Kenny Norton, too strong. George Forman would win in two seconds, he hit too hard.”

Holmes eventually retired for good in 2002 with a record of 69 wins from 75 fights and recently predicted that his mentor Muhammad Ali would have also beaten Tyson.

Tyson stirred up plenty of controversy last November when, despite being 58-years-old, he returned to the professional ring for an eight-round fight with YouTuber turned professional boxer Jake Paul, and lost almost every second of the fight in Texas.

Jaron Ennis Fully Views and Rates Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford As A 50/50 Fight

Nothing is set in stone but Terence Crawford appears to be on the verge of landing the mega-fight he’s been longing for.

Two weight classes and 14 pounds is ostensibly a huge jump but for Crawford, he’s perfectly fine with giving Canelo Alvarez a size advantage. As previously reported by The Ring, the pair are crossing their t’s and dotting their i’s as conclaves continue. With the two seemingly on a collision course, the opinions of the boxing world are split right down the middle.

Jaron Ennis, The Ring’s No. 1 ranked welterweight and current IBF belt holder, admits that he’ll be a fan if that fight actually takes place. As for how things will play out, he isn’t among observers who are on the side of Alvarez. He also isn’t on Team Crawford’s side either. From his point of view, a matchup between those two can go either way.
“That’s a good fight,” admitted Ennis to YSM Sports Media. “A 50/50 fight.”
Ennis, ironically enough, chased Crawford. Now though, he isn’t focused on the future Hall of Famer anymore. Their paths aren’t likely to cross and the Philly star is putting that behind him.
Crawford, 37, is on his last legs. The sand in his hourglass is dwindling and protracting his time in the game isn’t something he’ll pursue. When last seen, The Ring’s No. 1 ranked junior middleweight eked out a unanimous decision win over Israil Madrimov in his 154-pound debut.
Alvarez, on the other hand, made two routine defenses of his super middleweight throne. Neither Jaime Munguia nor Edgar Berlanga presented him with many problems but Ennis has a feeling that the much smaller Crawford would. The issue, unsurprisingly, is the weight.

Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) has always been light on his feet, elusive, and flat-out hard to hit. Those quick hands and even quicker feet, however, might be a bit slower with the added
weight. Will the pound-for-pound star fight like a man who’s moving in quicksand? Or will he be as fast as ever? Those are questions that Ennis wants to find out.
“I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be a little difficult. He’s gonna have to put on an extra 14 pounds so he might be a little slower or who knows? He could be faster. I don’t know. We’ll see on fight night how he’ll look.”

After The Viral KO, BKFC star sets sights on shock Anthony Joshua fight after contract ends with $150k viral KO

Ben Rothwell is hoping to secure a fight with Anthony Joshua after his BKFC knockout went viral.

The 43-year-old secured the BKFC heavyweight title in brutal fashion at Knuckle Mania 5 on Saturday night.

Ben Rothwell extended his bareknuckle boxing record to 4-0 with a 36-second knockout victory against Mick Terrill and earned $150,000.

However, ‘Big Ben’ has now revealed he is a free agent after his contract with the promotion came to an end.

Following four bareknuckle bouts, the former UFC fighter is now targeting a move to boxing with Joshua on his list of dream match-ups.

Asked about facing fellow ex-UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou, Rothwell told The Ariel Helwani Show: “Right now I’m a free agent, I very much love the BKFC, I love David Feldman and I would like to continue, even finish my career here.

“How much time have I got? Maybe a year or so, it really depends. But Francis Ngannou, Anthony Joshua, guys who beat them guys.

“To put the gloves on and prove how good at boxing I am would very much be a bucket list.

“I just don’t feel like I’ve ever gotten to show the boxing world how good of a boxer I am.”

The switch is understandable given Ngannou is said to have made $20m for fighting Joshua – a considerable increase on anything he made in his mixed martial arts career.

“Right now the BKFC and UFC fans just say I’m a brawler,” he added. “They don’t understand my precision, they don’t understand how capable I truly am but if I got to fight one of them that would be a huge opportunity for me to show the world how good I really am.

“Before I am done fighting, I want to bring as much respect to this belt as possible.

“If I have to step away for a fight I think the BKFC would back me. I believe we’re going to get something figured out and I will defend this belt.”

oleksandr usyk

Prior to his run in BKFC, Rothwell amassed a 39-14 record in professional mixed martial arts.

Those bouts included 17 in the UFC over a 12-year period between 2009 and 2021.

He would not be the first MMA star to come up against two-time unified heavyweight world champion Joshua.

However, he missed out on becoming a world champion for the third time in his last fight.

Joshua was stopped by compatriot Daniel Dubois in their IBF title bout at Wembley Stadium in Septembr.

The 35-year-old has yet to announce when he will next enter the ring, with his professional record now standing at 28-4.

Surprise ‘Closer than people think’ – Anthony Joshua advised to take comeback fight against surprise rival

Anthony Joshua has been urged to take a comeback fight against Filip Hrgovic before deciding his next moves.

Anthony Joshua is currently at a crossroads in his heavyweight career after being brutally dropped three times and stopped by Daniel Dubois in September.

He was first expected to rematch Dubois but those plans were shelved after it was suggested he would not be ready for the targeted February date.

AJ then instead declared he would like to settle his rivalry with Tyson Fury in 2025, but the ‘Gypsy King’ then decided to announce his retirement from the sport.

The former two-time champion could now face a number of alternative opponents if he chooses to return, with the division’s boogeyman Martin Bakole also issuing a call-out.

But boxing broadcaster Ade Oladipo suggested on the latest episode of talkBOXING, that Hrgovic would be a sensible step for his next outing.

He said: “It is now a case of what do you do? Do you do a rebuild and go down a level and fight them Jermaine Franklin types?

“If he is here for the next two or three years then you do the rebuild, but I think he is only here for 12 months.

“If the fight with Fury doesn’t happen, I honestly think you go Hrgovic vs Dubois or Hrgovic vs Bakole.

“To go through training camp and sparring to see if you still have it, it’s one thing saying it and another knowing it.

“I think Hrgovic will look at the Dubois fights and think he can win. I think it’s a closer fight than what people think.

“It’s still someone in the top ten and top 15, but then we can work out from that performance if we want to see a Dubois rematch or a fight with Bakole.”

Joshua has been linked with a clash against Hrgovic in the past, with the pair having both been stopped by Dubois.

Bakole is considered an avoided fighter in the heavyweight division, and is campaigning for a huge clash against Joshua in Africa.

Joshua has surprisingly faced off with Bakole, but could have other priorities including future revenge against Dubois.

‘Dynamite’ currently holds the IBF belt and Joshua could become a three-time heavyweight champion if he does pursue future redemption.

But Oladipo and Jordan have themselves cast doubt on if there is genuine interest from Joshua in pursuing a sequel in 2025.

Jordan said: “It’s his decision, he is the captain of his own ship. He’s said this himself.

“If he wants to fight Daniel Dubois, he will fight Daniel Dubois but I’m questioning that.”

Jordan continued: “So I assume by the very nature of it that he doesn’t want to fight Dubois, because he isn’t fighting Dubois.

Oladipo replied: “Yeah, I can’t argue with that because I suppose if AJ wanted to fight Dubois, we wouldn’t be seeing Dubois vs Parker.”
