‘Against all odds’ – Terence Crawford highlights ‘greatest attribute’ that will help him beat Canelo Alvarez

Terence Crawford believes he has all the right attributes to pull off a monumental upset win against Canelo Alvarez.

The boxing titans are reportedly finalising a deal for a fight on Mexican Independence Day weekend (September 15) in Las Vegas.

According to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger, Crawford will climb two weight classes to fight Canelo at his natural home of super middleweight without a rehydration clause.

Most experts expected there to be some kind of contractual agreement to limit the amount of weight Canelo put on between the weigh-in and fight day given the size disparity between them.

Crawford is the much smaller man having only recently moved up to super welterweight (154lbs) following stints at lightweight (135lbs), super lightweight (140lbs) and welterweight (147lbs).

Meanwhile, Canelo has competed as high as light-heavyweight (175lbs) during his illustrious career.

But Crawford’s trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre insists this won’t be the case, even going as far as to suggest that they didn’t want one.

The confidence is admirable but not unfounded.

Terence Crawford is a generational great and one of only three boxers alongside Oleksandr Usyk and Naoya Inoue to become a two-weight undisputed champion in the four-belt era.

If anyone can overcome the odds it is Crawford, who remains undefeated after 41 professional fights.

“I’m the type of guy who likes to feel my fighters out and adjust to what they’re doing.

“I’m looking to do the same come fight time when the Canelo fight happens…

“People say, ‘You’re too small’ or ‘You’re outmatched’ or ‘You don’t belong in the ring with these types of fighters.’

“That’s when great fighters perform their best…

“I’m going to feel great [at 168lbs]. I don’t need to worry about the weight. I know I’m going to feel great.

Tyson Fury backed to make surprise career change if he doesn’t make retirement U-turn for Anthony Joshua fight

Tyson Fury is retired from boxing for now but Duke McKenzie still believes he should remain in the sport in some capacity.

Tyson Fury decided to hang up his gloves releasing a video confirming his retirement, despite intense talk of finally setting his heavyweight rivalry with Anthony Joshua this year.

The ‘Gypsy King’ had suffered back-to-back defeats against the division’s leading operator Oleksandr Usyk, but his career still had potential of drawing some commercial blockbuster nights.

Although there is still optimism that Fury will step in the ring with Joshua, given Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh intends to hold talks to try and lure him back into the squared circle.

Fury also retired last in 2022 after beating Dillian Whyte, but life outside of the sport wasn’t for him, and he made a U-turn and was lured back into some big fights.

He is now 36-years-old and despite being at the twilight end of his career, is still an extremely gifted technical fighter.

And ex-world champion McKenzie believes he should return, but if he chooses not to, should try his hand at promoting fighters on the other side of the fence.

He told talkSPORT.com: “100 per cent, it probably will happen [lured out of retirement for Joshua fight].

“He’s said the same thing several times, and then something comes in his mind a few months on when he gets bored.

“I don’t think he has the mentality for that. I think his forte would be staying in the sport, but maybe as a promoter or a manager.

“I think he’d be great at that if he chooses not to come back, he will always be involved in boxing.

“But I just think he still has another fight in him.”

Fury and Joshua still promises to be one of the biggest fights in boxing, despite no world titles likely to be on the line.

Joshua is too looking to bounce back after being on the receiving end of a brutal stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois in September.

But despite their current predicaments, the pair could earn huge paydays for agreeing to a showdown, particularly if it is a two-fight deal.

oleksandr usyk

Reports surprisingly indicated that the fight could be worth £500 million, but they were dismissed by Saudi kingpin Alalshikh.

Although McKenzie still believes it would be a mistake for Fury to leave the lucrative opportunities behind.

He added: “Yeah whatever they offer him whether it is £100 million or £200 million, take it.

“I still believe he will come out of retirement, make no mistake about that.”

His promoter Frank Warren is satisfied with his decision, and doesn’t plan to contact him and attempt to reverse his plan.

“My Money’s On Him” Derek Chisora Makes His Final Prediction For Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker: “My Money’s On Him”

Derek Chisora has tasted the punches of Joseph Parker and has now made a prediction ahead of his fight with Daniel Dubois.

‘Del Boy’ is just weeks away from his 49th fight, and it comes against former Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua opponent, Otto Wallin. Back in 2021, the British heavyweight veteran fought Parker twice

On their first meeting in May, Chisora lost by split decision after a close and entertaining battle across 12 rounds in which he scored a knockdown in the first round. Then, in September that year, the pair went at it again and this time Parker won wider, knocking down Chisora three times and taking a unanimous decision.

Since then Parker, a former WBO champion who lost his title to Anthony Joshua in 2018, has continued to climb up the ranks despite losing to Joe Joyce in 2022. He has beaten the likes of Jack Massey, Simon Kean, Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang to set up this IBF world title shot against current ruler Dubois.

Dubois has also put together a super run of wins – his last three victories have all come by way of stoppage over Jarrell Miller, Fillip Hrgovic and Joshua.

The pair square off on February 22 and Chisora has told Seconds Out he expects the younger man to win.

“My money is on Daniel. I believe he has got everything to stop Joseph Parker because he’s strong and he wants it more. He’s on a roll right now. There is nothing that can stop him right now.”

The winner of this fight will be well-placed to challenge unified heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed fight sometime later this year.

Devin Haney Haunted by Lawsuit Woes as Rolly Romero Clears Stance on Ryan Garcia Ostarine Debacle

Nearly a year after the Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney fight, the pair is on a collision course with each other. According to recent updates, both Garcia and Haney are slated to fight on a May 2nd card in New York. ‘King Ry’ will go toe-to-toe with Rolly Romero and Devin Haney will square off against Jose Ramirez.

In the meantime, former lightweight champion Romero has shared his thoughts on the aftermath of the Garcia-Haney fight. After defeating Haney last April, Garcia tested positive for Ostarine in both his A and B samples, which resulted in the New York State Athletic Commission suspending him from the sport for a year.

His purse for the fight was taken away, and to add insult to injury, Haney sued the Victorville native, alleging fraud, battery, and breach of contract. Now, both fighters have to secure a win over their opponents this May to get their rematch on the road, which is being planned for October later this year.

the promoter for Ryan Garcia, has stated that a rematch will only be possible if Devin Haney withdraws his lawsuit against Garcia and his promotional company. Regardless, while appearing in an interview with Fight Hype recently, Romero dismissed any worries about Garcia’s ostarine debacle, while putting the blame squarely on Haney.

“No,” said Romero when asked whether he was worried about Garcia’s previous positive doping results. “The thing is, nobody’s gonna take some s**t the week of their fight.” He speculated that “they take it throughout their camp or like early camp. They don’t take it the week of the fight, it doesn’t make sense.”

As far as Romero is concerned, “None of that s**t matters.” From Romero’s point of view, “Devin got his a** whooped because Devin f**king can’t take a shot and Ryan walked his a** down [by] landing left hooks.” He blamed the entire game plan the Haneys had to knock out Garcia, which resulted in Devin’s downfall. “It was just a s**t game plan,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Rolly Romero has shared his thoughts on Garcia’s abilities since their sparring.

Rolly Romero promises to beat up Ryan Garcia

Romero and Garcia aren’t strangers, the pair have sparred each other at least twice during the early days of their career. With their fight announced for May, Rolly was asked about his thoughts on the improvements Garcia has made over the years. While Romero praised Garcia’s advanced skills, he promised a knockout finish.

Ryan became a way better fighter,” Romero told Fight Hype during the same interview. “He works the body more, he’s always had that left hook. He’s like I said, he’s a tremendous fighter, he has so much experience. I’m still gonna whoop that a** though.” Romero has even suggested that he would destroy Garcia so bad, he wouldn’t want the rematch with Haney.

That said, it appears Rolly Romero isn’t worried about Garcia’s prior ostarine test results, as he prepares to fight the Victorville native. However, the question is, does he have what it takes to put Garcia down?

“I Want To Knock Him Out” Heavyweight Vows To Retire Anthony Joshua In Trilogy Fight: “I Want To Knock Him Out”

British heavyweight Dillian Whyte is targeting a ‘trilogy’ fight with Anthony Joshua as he vows to retire his bitter rival.

The heavyweight duo first clashed on the amateur circuit 16-years ago, as ‘The Bodysnatcher’ claimed a points victory over a novice Joshua who hadn’t long had his first contest when the pair met

Their bitter feud was reignited in December 2015 when ‘AJ’ captured the vacant British heavyweight title with an explosive 7th-round knockout victory over Whyte, who had rocked Joshua in the second round before eventually suffering the first defeat of his professional career.

Their highly anticipated rematch was due to happen in August 2023, but was cancelled after Whyte returned an adverse finding in a doping test. Finnish heavyweight Robert Helenius stepped in and was knocked out in seven rounds. Whyte was later cleared to box after an investigation found it was a contaminated supplement that caused the findings.

Joshua is expected to return to the ring for the first time since suffering a shock knockout defeat to IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois last September, with Whyte putting himself forward to face his rival as he vows to finally send him into retirement.

Speaking to Sky Sports Boxing, ‘The Bodysnatcher’ welcomed the idea of facing the 35-year-old for the third time, but claimed he is ‘finished’ after that defeat to Dubois.

“If he wants to fight, then all they’ve got to do is call me. I’m always up for fighting AJ. No problem for me. However, personally, I think he’s finished. I think he made a huge mistake not taking the immediate rematch with Dubois. It was a world title fight, a great payday and the perfect opportunity to avenge his knockout loss.”

“Me and him will always be a good fight. We just have that chemistry. I don’t want to lose to him, he doesn’t want to lose to me, and we want to prove each other wrong. We want to knock each other out so it will always be a good fight.

Anthony joshua

“Eddie [Hearn] has publicly stated Joshua could fight me next, but whether he will or not I don’t know whether he or his people want it, then we wait to see. I would love to retire him.”

Whyte returned to the ring in December when he knocked out Ebenezer Tetteh in Gibraltar. The 36-year-old is keen on returning to the ring as soon as possible, with a fight date and opponent expected to be announced in due course.

Oleksandr Usyk Names The ‘Hit Harder’ Fighter Who can Hit Him Harder Than Joshua, Fury And Dubois

Oleksandr Usyk has beaten five Brits in the last seven years, four in the heavyweight ranks including the nation’s best in Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Daniel Dubois.

Usyk first visited these shores to defend his undisputed cruiserweight belts against Tony Bellew, stopping the challenger inside eight rounds before deciding up was time to move up to the heavyweight ranks

After a warm-up against Chazz Witherspoon, Usyk was tested by Derek Chisora, weathering an early storm to win a unanimous decision and set up a shot at Anthony Joshua’s unified titles. The Ukrainian beat ‘AJ’ twice in a row, winning then retaining the belts.

He then made a defence against Daniel Dubois, which included a controversial low blow that saw the champion down and recovering for minutes before rising to stop the 27-year-old Brit in the ninth.

Most recently, Usyk did the double over Tyson Fury, taking everything ‘The Gypsy King’ could throw to win by split decision and become undisputed. He would win unanimously in their rematch

In an interview with the 3 Knockdown Rule, he called the Morecambe man his hardest fight, but was clear that Chisora hit him harder than all others.

“Listen, I have respect for Tyson Fury. A fighter, a great man, but my opponent. Very hard man. Very smart … [Hardest fight] I think yes. Punch? I think no. Derek Chisora. Very tough guy. Derek – right hand, left hand, I’d like block… ‘Oh my God! Oh move Alex, this is dangerous.’”

Usyk has described the punch of the heavyweight veteran as ‘a baseball bat.’ Chisora has been competing professionally since 2007 but is currently enjoying somewhat of an Indian Summer as he makes his way towards 50 fights before finally hanging up the gloves.

He lost twice to Joseph Parker after the Usyk defeat before beating Kubrat Pulev and challenging for Fury’s then WBC belt in a trilogy that he lost to make it 3-0 to ‘The Gypsy King.’

His most recent wins over Gerald Washington and particularly Joe Joyce, however, have seen fans enjoying this farewell tour slightly more. Next up is Otto Wallin on February 8 in Manchester – number 49.

14 pounds: “The rehydration clause is for the weak”Terence Crawford gets angry with Canelo Alvarez The undefeated American will have to gain 14 pounds to face the Mexican in September

While no one believes Terence Crawford, who has never fought beyond 154 pounds, can beat Canelo Alvarez at 168 pounds, the Mexican’s usual weight.

The Bud has been asking for this fight for months and it seems to be coming true for next September in Las Vegas thanks to the management of Turki Alalshikh.

Crawford’s trainer with message to Saul Alvarez

While Crawford (41-0) has already shown his annoyance with Saul Alvarez (62-2-2), who criticized the level of opponents the Nebraska native has faced in his career, now it is his trainer Brian McIntyre who goes against the Guadalajara native.

The issue is the rehydration clause that Canelo is said to demand of his opponents, which consists of not exceeding a certain weight for the fight after stepping on the scales, a condition that The Bud will not have to meet and will not ask the Mexican even if he is heavier.

We don’t care about that. You can only go up to a certain point and if you go past that, that’s your problem. The first thing that came out of his mouth was that he wants the fight. If Terence has no problem with that, I don’t either”

“That’s bullshit, it’s for wimps. When they say you can’t lift more than that weight… fuck that,” McIntyre told The Ring when asked if they would ask for this clause for the Mexican fighter. “This is boxing. I have the skills, you stepped on the scale, you gave the weight, and no matter how much you come back after. You accepted the fight, so let’s get in the ring and fight like men, it’s that simple.”

Terence Crawford seeks to prove his greatness against Canelo Alvarez

Terence Crawford

Terence Crawford minimizes the weight difference with Saul Alvarez, because it is in this type of demand when great fighters show who they are.

“People say, ‘you’re too small’ or ‘you’re outmatched’ or ‘you shouldn’t be in the ring with this type of fighter’. That’s when great fighters perform at their best,” he told Boxing Scene.

Sergey Kovalev Was Brutally Knocked Out By Canelo And Has Now Made His Crawford Fight Prediction

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez looks set to welcome Terence Crawford to the super-middleweight ranks this coming September.

Despite Crawford fighting just once at super-welterweight and having to move up a further two divisions for the fight, he is adamant he has the skills to be just the third man to beat Canelo in 66 fights

What makes it an even taller task is that the Mexican has been as high as light-heavyweight on two occasions, the latest a points loss to Dmitry Bivol but his first effort a stoppage win over Sergey Kovalev.

That victory gave Canelo a world title in a fourth weight-class and proved his power and chin to be top level.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Kovalev said that Crawford has the skillset to beat his former opponent but that the 14 pounds of extra weight, should he decide to come in at the 168lbs limit, will be the deciding factor.

“Terence Crawford, great fighter. Huge respect to him. I think he’s the best pound-for-pound fighter. But if he will move up… He can beat Canelo, but I don’t know how he will be comfortable in his division.

What division are they gonna fight? Super-middleweight? It’s too big. He will be slower, you know? Because he will be bigger. For a fight every boxer should be losing weight for speed, lightness, movement. It’s no good for Crawford. But I know and I see that he can get the win.

Terence Crawford

“Canelo will keep his hands up and walk him down. Crawford is very smart, but nobody knows how he will feel at super-middleweight. It’s too much weight. I did a fight at 200 pounds, I wasn’t light-heavy, I was slow. It’s not comfortable. I think Crawford will be the same heavier. If he will be in his shape, he will beat Canelo.”

As per Crawford’s team, the fight will take place on September 13. He has said he will not take an interim bout even though Canelo is expected to.

He is young trader “I’m The Best In The World”: Heavyweight With 80% KO Ratio Wants To Fight Oleksandr Usyk Next: “I’m The Best In The World”

A highly rated world heavyweight contender is looking for the biggest fights possible, and that could include a fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

Matching up-and-coming heavyweights can be a tricky job. It’s important for young fighters to learn their trade and experience plenty of different in-ring scenarios so that when the levels go up they are not out of their depth.

Right now the heavyweight landscape is as full and busy as it has ever been with plenty of fighters vying for position as they work towards the ultimate goal of becoming a world champion.

The belt holders are IBF ruler Daniel Dubois who defends his title against Joseph Parker on February 22, and unified WBC, WBA and WBO champion and pound-for-pound great Usyk, who does not yet have his next contest locked in.

One man rapidly building a head of steam is Moses Itauma, the 20-year-old knockout artist looking to beat Mike Tyson‘s record of being the youngest-ever heavyweight belt holder.

Last time out he stopped Mariusz Wach and doesn’t currently have a fight date scheduled. Speaking to BoxNation, he was asked if he would take a fight with Usyk next.

“Why would Usyk take that fight? That’s obviously my first thought. If the fight was to present itself and they said you’re fighting Usyk in May, I’m taking it 100%. There’s no loss in that. I would take that fight 100% but I think why would he do that?”

Itauma, who has been heralded by both Fury and Usyk before, backed himself to beat anyone.

“I think I’m the best fighter in the world. I just need to go out and prove it.”

It seems more likely right now that Usyk will fight the winner of Parker versus Dubois and attempt to become a two-time undisputed champion.

I will KO him in 3 Minutes, Heavyweight ‘Giant’ Accepts Call To Face Anthony Joshua And Vows To KO Him Inside 3 Minutes

Anthony Joshua is in the market for his next opponent.

The two-time world heavyweight champion is looking to bounce back from a knockout loss at the hands of Daniel Dubois. At 35-years-old, Joshua wants big fights and one last crack at holding a belt again

Turki Alalshikh of both Riyadh Season and the Ring Magazine spoke to TalkSPORT about ‘AJ’s next moves and said he would like to match him up with Congo’s Martin Bakole in Africa

“We are open to see Joshua also against Bakole. I want to see this fight right. I want to see it but you know where I want to see it. I want to see it in Africa.”

With the retirement of Tyson Fury and thus that fight being currently off the table, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn also recently mentioned Bakole as a potential opponent.

Responding to Alalshikh’s tentative plan, Bakole welcomed the fight.

“They keep avoiding me and I’m so happy, and I’d like to thank his His Excellency Turki Alalshikh because he said himself he wants to see this fight [with Anthony Joshua].”

First up for the ‘African Giant’ is Efe Ajagba in a final eliminator for the IBF’s mandatory spot to face champion Dubois. Bakole recently took issue with ‘AJ’ siding with Nigeria’s Ajagba in that bout, saying he would win in style before beating the Brit in one round.

Anthony joshua

“I want to fight you. Look at Daniel Dubois – I broke his nose twice [in sparring] and he knocked you out cold. I will knock you out in the first round. You’re talking about Ajagba? Ajagba is a baby, wait till you see how I’m going to knock him out. I invite you to be there. You’re talking s**t. I want to fight you. Stop talking nonsense. Now you’re in Nigeria you’re not British anymore. I’m African giant. After knocking Ajagba out I will knock you out as well.”

Bakole vs Ajagba takes place in May on the same card as Ryan Garcia against Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero and Devin Haney up against Jose Ramirez.
