William Scull (23-0, 9 KOs): The 32-year-old Cuban, based in Germany, is the current IBF super middleweight champion. Alvarez’s experience and versatility in the ring make him the favorite in this matchup. His ability to adapt to different fighting styles and his powerful counterpunching are expected to pose significant challenges for Scull. However, Scull’s undefeated record and determination should not be underestimated.

Prediction: Canelo Alvarez to win by unanimous decision.

What’s at Stake?

This bout is the first in Alvarez’s four-fight deal with Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Season. A victory would not only make him the undisputed super middleweight champion again but also set the stage for a highly anticipated clash with Terence Crawford in September 2025 .

Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez is almost 70 fights in to an incredible career.

The 34-year-old from Guadalajara has emerged as one of the greatest fighters of the last decade, where he has won world titles in four weight classes as well as becoming the first undisputed super-middleweight champion of the ‘four belt era’.

He has had a highly successful campaign at 168lbs, defeating the likes of Caleb Plant, Billy Joe Saunders, Gennadiy Golovkin in their third fight, Jermell Charlo and Jaime Munguia. The Mexican icon also made the move up to 175lbs back in 2019 to beat Russian great Sergey Kovalev via eleventh round knockout to capture the WBO light-heavyweight title, though a second attempt in the division years later saw him fall short to Dmitry Bivol.

As he enters what are expected to be the final few years of his glittering tenure, Canelo can pick and choose the fights he takes. Speaking to The Ring Magazine recently, he expressed his interest in clashing with Bivol once again.

“I hope I have the opportunity to have the rematch with Bivol, that’s the only fight at 175 I would really take but we’ll see. I want to tell myself ‘Hey, you learned something from that fight’, what things you don’t need to do again. I have that thing in myself which says ‘Hey, you need to show that you’re a better fighter than him’.”

In a separate feature with DAZN Boxing, the Mexican star admitted he would also be keen on avenging the defeat he suffered to Floyd Mayweather Jr back in 2013.

“Yes, of course [I would like to fight Mayweather again]. I would love the opportunity to get revenge. Obviously we know it’s not going to happen but yes, I would love to get rid of that little thorn.”

Whilst a rematch with Bivol – who is now unified champion at 175lbs – does have potential, the Mayweather loss is one Canelo will never be able to avenge.

The 34-year-old is pencilled in to face Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford later this year, although his focus remains on IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull, who he faces on May 3 in a bid to become the undisputed champion at 168lbs for the second time.

Canelo Alvarez vs. William Scull: Fight Date, Predictions & Undisputed Super Middleweight Stakes

The boxing world is gearing up for another massive night as Saul “Canelo” Alvarez returns to the ring to defend his super middleweight crown against William Scull. The fight is scheduled for May 3, 2025, live from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — part of the Kingdom’s growing lineup of global sports spectacles.

Canelo Alvarez remains boxing’s biggest star and the undisputed super middleweight champion. His clash with William Scull — an unbeaten Cuban-German contender — marks another important step in Canelo’s continued reign and global dominance.

The Stakes: Undisputed Status on the Line

For Canelo Alvarez (60-2-2), this fight is about maintaining his position as the undisputed king of the 168-pound division. After brushing aside challengers like John Ryder and Jermell Charlo, Canelo is determined to show the world he’s still at the peak of his powers despite nearly two decades in the sport.

William Scull (22-0), meanwhile, enters as the hungry underdog. Scull has built an undefeated record, climbing the IBF rankings, and now faces the toughest test of his career. A win would not only shock the boxing world but also cement his status as the new face of the super middleweight division.

Fight Breakdown: Canelo’s Experience vs. Scull’s Youth

This matchup has all the makings of a classic “veteran vs. upstart” storyline. Canelo’s experience against elite opposition, iron chin, and masterful ring IQ will be hard to match. But Scull, with his height, reach, and fresh legs, could pose real problems if he’s able to keep the fight at long range and maintain a high work rate.

Prediction:
While Scull is talented and unbeaten, Canelo’s timing, body punching, and world-class experience make him the clear favorite. Expect Alvarez to start slow, break down Scull over the middle rounds, and possibly close the show with a late-round TKO or a dominant decision.

“Ridiculous Fight” Trainer Gives Final Verdict On Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford

Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford potentially taking place later this year has started to look like a real possibility. They are two of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world at the moment, but Crawford need to move up from 154 lbs to the super middleweight division for the contest

Trainer Abel Sanchez thinks that the jump in weight will be too much for Crawford.

He expects ‘Bud’ to cleverly use his hand and feet in the earlier rounds. However, Sanchez thinks Canelo will eventually find his power shot, which will be too much to handle for Crawford and the fight won’t be competitive.

t’s a ridiculous fight. I think Crawford is too small. Canelo, in my opinion, is the face of boxing right now. Look at his resume. I think it’s a good fight for a little while. Crawford’s hand speed. Just like when Golovkin fought Kell Brook. The hand speed of Crawford. As the fight goes on, Canelo will start pounding on him. The fight ends somewhere between the ninth and the twelfth round.

Crawford has spent the majority of his career at super welterweight. He moved up to 154 lbs for his last outing against Israil Madrimov, a unanimous decision back in August 2024. Sanchez believes the speed made a difference in that contest.

He thinks the case would be similar for Crawford at 168 lbs, however, he expects that like all of Alvarez’s recent fights, it would become a spar for him by the fifth or the sixth round.

The biggest World Champion Brands Terence Crawford Overrated And Vows To Finish Him Inside 9 Rounds

Terence Crawford is gearing up for a huge fight against Canelo Alvarez, despite being on the radar of another world champion.

The 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska has set his sights on making more history when he challenges the unified WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight champion in September, in what will be one of the biggest fights boxing has ever seen.

Canelo has dominated the super middleweight division for almost five years, but faces a new kind of challenge in ‘Bud’ Crawford, who has cemented himself as one of the greatest fighters of his generation, and in many people’s eyes one of the best of all time.

Another fighter that has been on the radar of Crawford in recent years is WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez, who is targeting a showdown with the 37-year-old in the near future.

Speaking to TKO Boxing, Lopez spoke of a potential fight against Crawford, claiming he intends to prove to the world that ‘Bud’ is overrated.

“The only way I can show the world that I’m the best is by facing the best. My main goal depends on Canelo and Bud, as I would love to fight Crawford as well.

He is one of the top pound-for-pound fighters of this time, and I want to show the world why he’s not in my eyes.”

In a separate interview with ESNEWS, he vowed to finish Crawford by round 9.

“I’d say by 9. It’s my favourite number and a guy like him, you gotta break him down, you gotta break him down, you can’t just take him out.”

‘The Takeover’ is set to return to the ring on when he faces current WBO interim light welterweight champion Arnold Barboza Jr in Times Square in New York.

Unlikely match-up ,Canelo Alvarez Names His One Condition To Fight Jake Paul After Being Accused Of ‘Ducking’

Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez was close to fighting Jake Paul this year.

instead opted to The unlikely match-up was dashed at the last minute when Canelo – currently unified champion at 168 pounds – stick to the traditional scene, signing a four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh

Paul has labelled the move as a clear ‘duck’ – something extremely few would agree with – and criticised Alvarez for the way he went about it.

Speaking on Hot 97, the elite Mexican champion revealed just how far talks had progressed before leaving the door open for it to take place in the future, but only when he is done with the more serious business of world championships.

“I think everybody wants to see me beat Jake Paul. You know, I thought about it for a minute, we agreed for the promoters to go and see what the numbers are for that fight in May.

“I don’t call that a fight, I call it an event. That event needs to wait. It’s not the moment to do that kind of event at this moment in my career. I think at the end of my career, when I’m retired, maybe. We’ll see.”

Asked how he rates the YouTuber-turned-fighter skill-wise, Canelo said it was hard to say but did praise his dedication to the sport.

“He’s focused. He’s focused on boxing. He’s disciplined. We need to credit him for that. Maybe he’s more disciplined than other fighters.

“But, as a fighter, it’s very difficult to say. That’s why when you say ‘a fight with Jake Paul’ for me it’s difficult to say a fight. It’s more an event than a fight.”

Paul is yet to announce his next opponent, though news is expected soon.

As for Canelo, he kicks off his Riyadh Season deal with an undisputed clash against new IBF Super-Middleweight World Champion William Scull. Should he win and become four-belt ruler once more, extra intrigue is added to an already booked mega fight against Terence Crawford in Las Vegas this September.

Former Super-Middleweight World Champion Has No Doubt Terence Crawford Will ‘Cruise Past’ Canelo

Terence Crawford steps up two weight divisions to face Canelo Alvarez later this year.

The two pound-for-pound superstars will collide in Las Vegas in September, with Crawford aiming to become a five-weight world champion

He could even get the chance to be a three-weight undisputed champion, provided that Canelo first defeats IBF champion William Scull in May to add that belt to his WBC, WBA and WBO titles.

‘Bud’ has fought above the 147lb limit just once in his boxing career, coming in his last fight when he defeated Israil Madrimov to win the WBA super-welterweight title.

Some boxing fans were critical of the performance of Crawford in that fight, and have concerns that an even bigger jump up in weight to 168lbs could prove a step too far.

One former super-middleweight champion disagrees though, believing that ‘Bud’ has what it takes to follow in his footsteps and claim world honours in that division.

That man is Nigel Benn, the British boxing legend who held the WBC super-middleweight title from 1992 to 1996, and he has revealed that he believes it will be an easy win for ‘Bud.’

“Crawford is very skillful and very fast. It’s a big money fight… As much as I’m a big fan of Canelo, Crawford’s movement is on another level. I think he could cruise through it – not really take any damage. He’d just cruise through it.”

Benn himself will soon know a thing or two about fighters jumping up two divisions, when his son Conor faces bitter rival Chris Eubank Jr at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on April 26.

“He Knows Now”: Canelo Gives His Honest Rating Of Terence Crawford’s Last Performance At 154

Canelo Alvarez has based Terence Crawford’s chances of defeating him on the American’s last showing against Israil Madrimov.

The 34-year-old from Mexico is gearing up to face ‘Bud’ Crawford in a mega-fight later this year after the superstars finally agreed on a clash after months of negotiations.

Crawford made the move up to 154lbs last August to face WBA light middleweight champion Madrimov in Los Angeles. After a competitive contest that went the scheduled distance, the 37-year-old American was declared the winner via unanimous decision to become a four-division world champion.

Despite his spectacular career success, many prominent figures within the sport, including Canelo, were left far from impressed with Crawford’s performance against Madrimov and began to question if ‘Bud’ is taking it a step too far when he moves up to 168lbs this year.

Speaking to Sway’s Universe, Canelo gave an honest assessment of Crawford’s performance against Madrimov, where he believes Crawford looked slower at the higher weight and it will be an ‘easy fight’ for him at 168.

“Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great fighter but for me, in my weight class, it’s an easy fight. Easy money…

I don’t like to fight guys like Crawford because he moves a lot and the fight is not that great, I saw in his last fight and he doesn’t move that much now… there are weight classes for a reason.”

In a separate interview with Fight Hype, Canelo said he thought Crawford should have lost his undefeated record.

“He lost. I think he knows why there’s weight classes there, right? He make a good fight, but for me I think he lost the fight. Or draw. It could have been the other side.”

Crawford’s quest to becoming a five-weight world champion will not come easy, as he is faced with undeniably the toughest test of his glittering professional career against a man who has dominated the super middleweight division for almost five years.

Canelo will have the opportunity to re-capture the undisputed championship on May 3 when he faces IBF champion William Scull in Riyadh, leaving ‘Bud’ faced with the prospect of becoming a three-division undisputed champion if he can defy the odds against the Mexican superstar in September.

“I should be considered one of the best in history”: Terence Crawford already sees himself beating Canelo in his next fight

There are still seven months to go until the possible fight between Terence Crawford and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, but the American is already creating scenarios and hypothetical cases in this fight that is not yet official, but everything would indicate that it is only a matter of time before it is formally announced.

Taking advantage of his time to prepare physically, Crawford was in an interview with Cigar Talk on Youtube, explaining every detail about the crazy idea of fighting against the pride of Mexico.

“I was in the gym, Bill Haney came up to me and said ‘forget about Spence, go fight Canelo instead. That’s your fight. That should be the one you’re looking for’. So whenever I ran into him, he would say to me: ‘Is the fight with Canelo ready?’ I just laughed,” confessed Bud with the interviewer

All of that started to make noise toTerence Crawford, that’s when he started to believe that it was a very good idea, especially because Bill Haney began to insist that Canelo was heavy, but he was not big, that he could beat him. These ideas began to convince Bud to ask for this fight to Turki Alalshikh.

A fight that would mark a legacy for his career

In the same talk, Bud confessed that while they were putting this idea of a fight with Canelo in his head, he began to believe that he could certainly fight him and that would put him on another level of greatness:

“Winning this fight will cement me as an all-time great, because there are too many fighters who did what I did, going from 135 pounds to 168,” confessed Terence

And he explained in more detail about his skills in the ring: “My arms are long, I am strong, I even dare to say that they underestimate my strength. He is not big, it is true, it is his category and he knows it very well, but we will see if it is true what he says that it will be easy,” concluded the 37-year-old boxer.

On the other hand, Canelo has a fight scheduled in Riyadh against William Scull, with every intention of taking the Cuban’s belt and having all the titles on the line in September.

Danny Jacobs Lost To Canelo At 160 And Sums Up Crawford’s Chances Of Beating Him At 168 In 4 Words

If there’s one man that knows a thing or two about going head-to-head with Canelo Alvarez, it’s two-time world middleweight champion Danny Jacobs.

The 38-year-old from New York faced Canelo in a world middleweight championship unification bout back in May 2019, putting his IBF crown on the line against the Mexican superstar who held the WBC and WBA titles at 160lbs.

Danny Jacobs put on a good performance to take Canelo all the way, but ultimately could not piece together enough of a game plan to stop the Mexican star in his tracks. After 12-rounds, Canelo claimed a unanimous decision victory to dethrone ‘The Miracle Man’ of his IBF strap, unifying three of the four middleweight titles.

Speaking to Pro Boxing Fans, Jacobs was asked to share his thoughts on what he believes will happen when Canelo clashes with Terence Crawford at super-middleweight later this year, saying that sometimes ‘skills pay the bills’.

“Sometime skills pay the bills and we know for sure that Crawford has the skills over Canelo. It’s just sometimes power, weight and experience may have a factor in that. So it will be a good test for Crawford. I’m a fan, the fans are the winner with that fight.”

‘Bud’ is faced with a monumental challenge when he steps up two weight divisions to fight Canelo in September, although the opportunity to become a five weight world champion and a three-weight undisputed champion will give the American all of the motivation he needs to pursue the victory.
