Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has recently voiced doubts about the true extent of Floyd Mayweather’s wealth, despite the retired boxer’s claims of financial supremacy. Known as the most financially successful fighter in boxing history, Mayweather, now 47, retired with a perfect 50-0 record and has since engaged in numerous exhibition bouts.

However, Hearn, in a candid interview, questioned whether Mayweather still possesses the vast sums of money he once flaunted.

Floyd Mayweather suggests he could take part in Saudi exhibition fight | Arab News

Hearn’s skepticism centers around Mayweather’s lavish lifestyle, which includes extravagant spending on luxury cars, private jets, and high-stakes gambling.

Despite Mayweather’s assertions that he has made smart investments, including ventures in real estate and gold mines in Dubai, Hearn isn’t convinced. In an interview with GRM Daily, Hearn believes Mayweather’s lifestyle as diminished his net worth.

“I don’t think he’s got the money he says. I don’t think he needs the money, but when you’ve got that lifestyle, when he’s spending what he’s spending, you start to wonder,”

Mayweather, who topped Forbes’ list of highest-paid athletes with a reported $700 million earnings in 2019, has been adamant that his continued participation in exhibition fights is not driven by financial need but by his love for the sport. “I was born to be a fighter, I’m gonna die a fighter,” Mayweather has said, dismissing claims that he’s fighting for money.

Earlier this year, his former protege, Gervonta Davis claimed that Mayweather was being detained in Dubai over unpaid debts.

Floyd Mayweather Set To Rematch John Gotti III

The First Fight Ended In A Brawl

Nonetheless, the ongoing exhibition bouts, including a forthcoming rematch with John Gotti III on August 24 in Mexico, have fueled speculation about Mayweather’s financial situation. The rematch comes after their first fight in June 2023 ended in chaos, with a mass brawl breaking out after the referee stopped the fight due to excessive trash-talking.

Despite these doubts, Mayweather continues to assert that he is not fighting for money, pointing to his investments and business acumen. However, Hearn’s remarks add to the growing debate about whether “Money” Mayweather’s wealth is as secure as it once was, or if his lavish spending has taken a toll on his financial empire. As Mayweather prepares for his eighth exhibition match later this month, the questions surrounding his financial health remain at the forefront of boxing discussions. Despite the speculation, Mayweather continues to flaunt his wealth on social media.

Novak Djokovic finally ended his wait for Olympic gold on Sunday as he overcame Spanish prodigy Carlos Alcaraz in the gold-medal match at Roland Garros. The Serb was already widely regarded as the best player of all time but perhaps put the debate to bed with the straight-sets victory in the French capital.

Djokovic stands alone at the top of men’s tennis with 24 Grand Slam singles titles – two more than his closest rival, Rafael Nadal, while he has also spent more weeks at number one in the world rankings than any other player.

Djokovic drops bombshell revelation: what did the Olympic Games gold medalist say? - AS USA

One thing he hadn’t done up until this year was claim a gold medal for his country at the Olympics – something Nadal, Andy Murray and Roger Federer (in doubles) had all done.

However, he added to his tennis legacy with a somewhat surprise win over Alcaraz in the French capital. Alcaraz went into the match as the favourite to claim gold, having beaten the Serb comfortably in July’s Wimbledon final, while there were doubts over Djokovic’s fitness after he seemingly aggravated a knee injury in his quarter-final victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Djokovic has been playing with strapping on his knee ever since he withdrew from the French Open in June, but showed no signs of any ailment as he produced two clutch tie-breaks to emerge victorious, winning 7-6 7-6.

While the Olympics itself does not award prize money to medallists, many of the athletes are remunerated by the countries they compete for – and Serbia is one of the most generous countries at the Games when it comes to rewarding their successful athletes with prize money.

Djokovic received £175,000 from Serbia for winning the gold medal and reportedly opted to donate that fee to humanitarian causes. Djokovic is known for his philanthropy, and he set up the Novak Djokovic Foundation in 2007 – an organisation aimed at ensuring all children in Serbia have access to pre-school education.

Writing on Instagram after beating Alcaraz, Djokovic said: “I could never give up on the dream of winning this gold medal, just as the people of Serbia have never given up on me. Together, we believed in the impossible. While I may be the one holding this medal, I want every Serbian to know that it belongs to all of us.

“Representing our nation is the greatest honour in the world. This medal, these moments, this life – none of it would have been possible without your unwavering support. This is because of you. This is for you.”

Djokovic’s relationship with his country is deeper than most, having grown up during a period of conflict for his country. Djokovic was just a young boy when he was forced to hunker down with his family in a Belgrade bomb shelter during NATO’s bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999. His emotion was evident after winning Olympic gold, as he fell to the ground in tears before embracing his family in the stands.

The Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics not only aimed to review the history of the French city but also commemorated great athletes from around the world. And among them, one of the tennis legends could not be missing. Serena Williams was one of those responsible for carrying the torch alongside Rafa Nadal, Carl Lewis, and Nadia Comaneci.

Since then, the American has been enjoying the events and attending various competitions. Among others, she did not hesitate to watch live the one of Simone Biles along with dozens of other familiar faces. But she also has time to spend with her children, and it is exactly at that moment when she had a problem that she did not hesitate to publicly denounce.

Serena Williams Says She Was "Denied Access" To Paris Restaurant, Staff Explains Incident

The tennis player has used her social media to point out an incident she had this Monday with The Peninsula restaurant in Paris. “I have been denied access to eat on the rooftop of a restaurant empty of nicer places, but never with my children. There is always a first time,” she denounced on her X account (Twitter).

With this, Selena Williams has not only shown anger about what happened, but has also expressed outrage. However, the establishment itself has tried to calm the waters, apologizing to her in the comments section.

“We apologize for the disappointment you experienced tonight. Unfortunately, our rooftop bar was fully booked, and the only available tables you saw belonged to our gourmet restaurant, L’Oiseau Blanc, which was also fully booked,” they explained.

They have also made it clear that for them, it is an “honour” to welcome a public figure of this caliber and that they will be delighted to receive his visit in the future. However, this time it was not possible due to prior commitments, as they have clarified.

A dispute that the followers of the American player have not hesitated to fuel. Among other things, many have wanted to support the tennis player. “Who doesn’t leave room for a queen?” a user expressed. “How can you deny someone when it’s Serena Williams…?” added another.

And it’s not surprising to see this tennis player’s reaction on social media, considering that she is quite active in this regard. Right after the Opening Ceremony, she didn’t hesitate to joke about it. “I participated in an incredible opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games and traveled by boat in the rain, and it was pouring! So much so that my eyelashes came off,” she exclaimed.

A Gervonta Davis versus Shakur Stevenson fight continues to elude fans.

The match-up pits two contrasting styles against one another, with ‘Tank’s raw power and calculated punishment facing its toughest test against the slick movement and elite defence of Stevenson.

Only two men have made it the distance with Davis, his other 28 fights ending by knockout, more often than not quite sensationally. On the other end of the scale, Shakur has just a 45% stoppage ratio but is notoriously hard to land on.

Gervonta Davis Vs Shakur Stevenson - Who Wins?

Now both world champions at lightweight, the fight looked to be on the table when Davis’ negotiations with Vasiliy Lomachenko collapsed. However, it looks set to marinate for a while longer with both men recently confirming that a report stating there were talks for a November bout are false.

It will, fans hope, happen one day and predictions continue to roll in. Speaking to Fight Hub TV, two-weight world champion Danny Garcia backed ‘Tank’ Davis should the fight ever materialise.

“That’s a great fight. I like Tank. I think Tank is too strong at that weight for anybody, but skill-for-skill I think it’s a great fight.”

Will We See Davis Vs. Shakur Stevenson Next? | FIGHT SPORTS

An all-American, undefeated unification clash not being made with urgency is what many see wrong with the sport, but there’s always hope for 2025.

In the meantime, Stevenson may be considering facing number one challenger William Zepeda towards the end of the year. ‘Tank’s potential rematch with Isaac Cruz has now lost its appeal given the latter recently lost his super-lightweight world title to Jose Valenzuela.

If you had to guess, how much do you think Terence Crawford weighed on fight night for his clash with Israil Madrimov on Saturday, Aug. 3?

Surprisingly, Crawford was the bigger man in the ring when he won a unanimous decision over the previously undefeated Madrimov.

The California State Athletic Commission released official fight night weights for everyone on the card at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. Not only was Crawford heavier than Madrimov, but he also experienced the fourth-biggest weight gain from the official weigh-ins.

After weighing in at 153.4 pounds on Friday for the official weigh-in, Crawford weighed 169.8 pounds the night of the fight. The 16.4-pound weight gain is almost two pounds more than what Madrimov put on for the fight.

Madrimov was officially 168.6 pounds when he failed to defend his WBA title against the future Hall-of-Famer. Here is a list of the most significant weight gains from Friday’s weigh-ins to fight night on Saturday.

In their super middleweight fight, Steve Nelson jumped 25.4 pounds when he clashed with Marcos Ramon Vazquez.

  17. What can we take from Crawford’s weight gain, and does this tell us much about his form for a fight with Canelo Alvarez? Traditionally, fighters competing closer to their natural weight gain less from weigh-in to fight night.Fight Picks: Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov - The RingThat’s usually because they didn’t need to shed as much water weight to hit the contracted limit. It’s almost impossible to say for sure, but it’s not a wild guess to predict Crawford would likely weigh in between 165 and 167 pounds for a fight at super middleweight and only rehydrate up to 173 or 175 for fight night.

Making the weight doesn’t show how well a fighter can perform at that size. We wouldn’t know that without seeing the fighter in the ring.

However, Crawford’s jump in weight ahead of the fight with Madrimov proves he’s appropriately suited for 154 pounds–even if it means he won’t be as devastating of a puncher at that weight as he has been at 135, 140, and 147 pounds.

With a fight with Canelo seemingly up in the air as the Mexican legend exchanges words with Saudi power broker Turki Alalshikh, we’ll have to wait to see what Bud’s next fight will be and in what weight class.

The question of who’s the best fighter of the 21st century may not be such a slam dunk after all.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has paved the way for nearly all of it, and no fighter has really come close, but the last few years have opened up a lot of eyes, and Terence “Bud” Crawford is right there knocking on Floyd’s—to this point—untouchable perch. On Saturday night, Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) won a world title in a fourth weight class as he out-hustled and outworked a game Israil Madrimov in a 12-round unanimous decision victory at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. The judges had it 115-113 twice and 116-112 for Crawford.

Give the man his respect. Last year, Crawford dominated and stopped then-unbeaten unified world champion Errol Spence Jr. in a ninth-round TKO to become the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era and a two-weight undisputed champion overall as he also once held all four belts at 140 pounds. For all that he’s done in the sport, Mayweather never achieved such a distinction. However, that’s not the entire story.

Floyd Mayweather: Terence Crawford vs. prime Floyd Mayweather - Who wins? Raging debate splits boxing Twitter with polarized opinions

Mayweather or Crawford?

Mayweather never truly wanted to become the undisputed champion. His goal was to win the biggest fights and generate the most money of any fighter in history.

After beating Zab Judah in 2006 to become the IBF welterweight titleholder, Mayweather bought out his contract under Top Rank to control his own destiny. Instead of facing WBO 147-pound titlist Antonio Margarito for $8 million, Mayweather went a different route. He expressed a desire to move up to junior middleweight to challenge then-WBC 154-pound world champion Oscar De La Hoya to win a world title in a fifth weight division. Before making the jump, Mayweather vacated his IBF title and defeated then-WBC welterweight champ Carlos Baldomir, who previously beat Judah. If your goal is to make the most money, it’s not rocket science. You’ll pick De La Hoya over Margarito every day of the week.

Once Mayweather turned 33, he embraced his “Money” era. No longer was he fixated on taking the biggest fights, but more of a combination. A mix of big names was headed towards the twilight of their career, younger fighters looking to make a name for themselves, and a fighter people had been calling on him to fight for a long time.

Crawford is older than Mayweather was at this point. He’s 36 years old, and his legacy is still expanding. He didn’t take a tune-up before moving up to 154 pounds to challenge the WBA champion in Madrimov. Some will say, ‘Madrimov only had 11 fights.’ Yes, and he had a belt. That says more about Madrimov than anything else. Others may chime in, ‘Crawford has to take these fights. Mayweather struck gold and didn’t have to take as many risks.’ You can also say that, but ask yourself: Is Crawford in for the money or legacy? Mayweather was the guy who said, “Your kids can’t eat legacy.”

Mayweather Could End Retirement For Crawford Fight Claims Gervonta Davis Coach

While that’s true, regardless of one’s popularity or journey, the fact of the matter is that Crawford isn’t exactly a young fighter, but he’s one of the best at a young man’s game, and he isn’t taking tune-ups. And let’s be clear: there isn’t anything wrong with tune-ups. De La Hoya fought Darryl Tyson, and Mayweather fought Sharmba Mitchell. Crawford has been different. He beat Ricky Burns for his first world title in 2014 at lightweight when the Englishman had gone 22 straight fights without a loss. After beating Ray Beltran, he moved up to 140 pounds and fought for a title immediately, stopping Thomas Dulorme in six rounds.

When you look at it from this perspective, it lends credence to the notion that Crawford could one day surpass the all-time legend and Hall of Famer Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the greatest fighter of the 21st century. Don’t get me wrong, Naoya Inoue and Oleksandr Usyk are making excellent cases for themselves, but Crawford is in a league of his own right now. Believe it or not, he doesn’t even need to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, which could be a bridge too far at 168 pounds.

The 2024 Paris Olympics hinted at being an elaborate affair from the get-go. A stupendous Opening Ceremony caught the attention of the world with its extravagant set-up. While controversies revolving around the incident have been rampant, the grandeur of the entire thing just couldn’t be ignored. And yet, Olympic legend Carl Lewis assured EssentiallySports that he had very few things to complain about, considering how he got to experience the entire enthralling event.

Lewis was seen on the boat that hosted legends from different sports at the Paris Olympic Opening Ceremony. While seeing legendary figures like Serena Williams, Carl, and gymnastics icon Nadia Comaneci on the same boat was a sight to behold on its own, Lewis’ glee was heightened by the fourth person in the gang.

Carl Lewis had his moment with old buddies at the Paris Olympics

Comaneci, Williams, and Lewis were joined by the tennis phenome Rafael Nadal as the four veterans of their fields carried the Olympic Torch at the Opening Serena. After the ceremony, Shreya Verma, the Olympic correspondent for EssentiallySports, caught up with the nine-time Olympic gold medalist Lewis to talk about how it was to share the stage with some of the greatest sports stars of all time. Candidly, the track legend explained that things were like a reunion of friends.

…going down the river in that boat it was a little rocky cuz it’s pretty fast, you know,” Carl told us with a chuckle as he remembered how the rain added to the misery. While Lewis was undoubtedly one of the main selling points of the Opening Ceremony, he was only among the many who helped the Olympic Torch to reach its final destination.

Stars from all walks of life chimed in

The 2024 Paris Olympics made history in more ways than one, and we, at EssentiallySports, enjoyed every moment of it. For the first time in Olympic lore, the Opening Ceremony was held outside of a stadium and on a water body as athletes and guests made their way through the city on boats over the river Seine.

Glimpses of the Olympic Torch were first shared with fans via a video broadcast where French soccer legend Zinedine Zidane where he brought retrieved the torch from actor Jamel Debbouze who took it to the Stade de France. After Zidane brought it to Saint Denis, the torch changed hands multiple times before firing up the Olympic Cauldron.

Along with the abovementioned five stars, the torch was also held by French tennis celebrity Amélie Mauresmo, basketball star Tony Parker, and the oldest-living French Olympic gold medalist Charles Coste, who won his honors at the 1948 London Olympics. The torch was ultimately passed to sprinter Marie-José Pérec, who lit the balloon-shaped cauldron.

With the Opening Ceremony being the illustrious affair that it was, do you think the 33rd Olympics will come to an end with a similar bang? Tell us!

Novak Djokovic on Sunday became the first tennis player in a dozen years, male or female, to complete a tennis “Golden Slam,” winning all four major annual tournaments and an Olympic gold medal.

The 37-year-old Serb, considered by many the greatest male tennis player in history, defeated the young Spanish superstar Carlos Alcaraz to win the gold at the Paris Olympics.

Many Catholics took note of the fact that an elated Djokovic made the sign of the cross several times after winning the match — but you may also have noticed that he did the sign of the cross from right to left, rather than the typical Catholic left to right.

Novak Djokovic defeats Carlos Alcaraz for first Olympic gold medal

Djokovic is a Serbian Orthodox Christian. The sign of the cross is rich with meaning for all Christians, including Catholics, but the Orthodox practice, which is arguably more ancient, adds additional levels of meaning.

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, the very earliest Christian practice appears to be the tracing of the sign of the cross of one’s forehead, which later evolved into the practice of making a sign of the cross across a larger portion of the body. St. Basil (329–379) wrote that the apostles “taught us to mark with the sign of the cross those who put their hope in the Lord.”

When Catholics do the sign of the cross today, they cross themselves with their hand starting at the top, going down, and then from left to right. When Orthodox Christians do the sign of the cross, they start at the top, go down, and then from right to left.

Many Orthodox sources say part of the reason that the sign of the cross is done in this direction is because during the Orthodox Divine Liturgy — the equivalent of the Mass — the Orthodox priest does the sign of the cross from left to right, facing the people, who copy his movements in mirror image. That said, the exact reasons for the differences are ancient and not entirely clear even to the Orthodox themselves.

There’s another level of meaning in the Orthodox sign of the cross, though, that is more readily documented. The Orthodox hold their hand with the index and middle fingers and thumb together, a symbol of the three persons of the Holy Trinity — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — together as one God. The two fingers, ring and pinky, that remain down symbolize the two natures of Jesus: fully human and fully divine.

Djokovic’s Christian history

Djokovic was brought up in the Serbian Orthodox Church, which claims the majority of the country’s citizens and several million members worldwide. He grew up during a tumultuous time in the region and survived the wars between the Yugoslavian states.

In 2011, Djokovic was awarded the Serbian Orthodox Church’s highest honor “for his active love toward Mother Church, particularly fervent and persistent helping [of] the Serbian people and the sanctuaries of our Holy Church.”

He has donated several million dollars to the Serbian public health system and to charities run by the Serbian Orthodox Church.

“This is the most important title of my life, because before being an athlete, I am an Orthodox Christian,” he said upon receiving the award.

Despite Djokovic’s frequent displays of a cross necklace, performance of the sign of the cross, and talk of God, a 2015 biography of Djokovic opined that “[i]t would wrong to suggest that he is devoutly religious, but the ritualistic role the church plays in the life of Serbia is sufficiently strong that it is very much a part of his life.”

Still, the tennis champ has shown himself to be a person animated by love of neighbor. He runs the Novak Djokovic Foundation, which primarily focuses on rebuilding preschools and supporting teachers and parents of young schoolchildren. And in 2017, he opened a restaurant in Serbia that provides free food to the homeless.

Serena Williams’ journey to reclaim her curves is paying off, and fans are taking notice. The tennis legend, 42, has been candidly sharing her quest to shed extra pounds since giving birth to her and her husband, Alexis Ohanian’s, second child, daughter Adira, in August 2023.

New photos of Williams in Paris for the 2024 Olympics have her supporters raving about how good she looks a year into the weightless journey. “You lost all the baby weight. And slaying,” a follower wrote in the comments of her Aug. 4 post.

She shared four images of herself wearing an ensemble that was composed of a black, spandex body suit covered up by a beige sporty and chic sleeveless button up with fishnet underneath and a slight view of her cleavage.

“How does she look so skinnier now than EVER!!!!” exclaimed a user as they gawked over her recent Paris fashion look.

Still, not everyone was onboard with Williams’ transformation progress. A critical observer commented, “Something seems off about her weight look at her legs.”

Someone else quipped, “We’re just going to start calling you Serena the snack.” And a third fan asked, “Did we try on the skirt this month?!?!?! I’m so invested at this point.”

At the top of the year, Williams shared a video of her trying her best to fit into a designer denim skirt.

“I got this cool Valentino skirt when I was pregnant and I was like, ‘I’m gonna be able to fit in this when I don’t have a belly,’” she said about her goal. As she pulled the skirt up her legs, she quickly realized that her fuller thighs and backside made it clear that she wasn’t quite slim enough to pull off the look.

Williams admitted, “I should have been able to fit it by now, but I ran into some … I got distracted for about a month. And so, I’m about a month behind. We have a ways to go.”

She documented her second attempt at fitting into the garment in May. Again, her backside prevented the skirt from gliding up to her waist with ease. Her supporters were appreciative of the relatable content, with many suggesting she get a bigger size instead of downsizing her curvier figure.

In June, Williams had a non-invasive procedure called radio-frequency (RF) skin-tightening treatment on her stomach.

But the decorated athlete continued her quest as she uploaded a third try on July 1 following a trip to Paris. This time, she had made significant headway, not only managing to pull the skirt up to her waist but also buttoning it.

However, the zipper was the final straw as it did not budge, proving she was close but not exactly the right size.

The snug fit was met with excitement from Williams, who said, “Well, we’ve made a lot of progress. … I’m not as sad … it’s a little tight. I can’t really breathe. … I might have to do one more video.”

While a fourth video has yet to be shared, fans are patiently waiting for an update.

Several others who flooded the post’s comment section raved about her most recent look, her body, clothing, and makeup included. Williams has had a series of hits and misses when it comes to her glam in recent months, but several fans now believe she has the perfect team in place to keep her looking stellar amid complaints about her stepping out in public looking drab instead of fab.

Defending champion Dubois will enter the domestic dust-up as a huge underdog due to his lack of experience against the elite of the division.

The 26-year-old was stopped by Oleksandr Usyk in the ninth round of his first world title fight last August.

Former WBC cruiserweight king Tony Bellew reckons the same fate befall Triple D, but in even more devastating fashion.

The Bomber told Coin Poker: “I think Anthony Joshua knocks Daniel Dubois out inside three rounds.

“Everything that Daniel Dubois does well, Anthony Joshua does better.

Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn told to ‘grow a pair’ by Daniel Dubois’ trainer

“Daniel Dubois is a strong puncher, he’s heavy-handed but Anthony Joshua is stronger and faster.

“He got hit with 45 right hands in four rounds against Filip Hrgovic.

“He’ll get hit with three against Anthony Joshua and he’ll wake up in an ambulance. Anthony Joshua has dynamite in his gloves.

“Don’t get me wrong, Daniel Dubois is a puncher too, so he does have a puncher’s chance, but I rate it at 70-30, 80-20 in Joshua’s favour.”

Dubois knows he faces an uphill task to retain his belt and hand AJ only his fourth career defeat.

But he’s looking forward to the challenge and ushering in a new era of British heavyweight boxing.

He said: “That’s just where I’m aiming for, to fight the best and be the best.

“AJ’s been the king for a long time and on the night, I need to become a king slayer and that’s my goal, that’s the mission at hand.

“I’m learning more about myself as a fighter, as a person, coming out of the darkness and into the light, improving all around as a fighter and as an athlete.

“I’m up for this and ready to go.”

Joshua, 34, knows Dubois well having previously sparred with him and is refusing to underestimate his chances of winning.

He told Sky Sports: “I’m not saying he has the chance to do it on September 21, because sometimes what you speak comes into existence.

“But I won’t let it happen and I’ll show you how good I am.

“Whether it’s in the ring sparring or in the ring fighting, I won’t let anyone manhandle me or try and knock me out. No way.”
