“Money Mayweather” needed a free seat for his, well, money.

The WNBA is getting bigger and bigger, and a few of the reasons for that were on display on Tuesday night when the Las Vegas Aces and Chicago Sky played each other. A’ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum have done a ton to take the league up a notch, and rookie Angel Reese has done her part to bring in more fans after a highly successful college career.

With more eyes on the league, it’s no surprise to see more famous athletes and celebrities showing up at games. It doesn’t hurt that the Aces play at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in a hotbed for sports. Naturally, Floyd Mayweather Jr. made an appearance at the Aces-Sky game, and he got social media talking because of what he did courtside.

Jake Paul‘s 2024 is either going to be a smashing success — or a colossal flop. In a few days, boxing fans might know for sure, one way or the other.

Paul was set to fight former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson on July 20 — but that bout has been pushed back to November, owing to Tyson‘s ulcer flare-up in May. Instead, Paul is set to battle bare-knuckle fighter Mike Perry at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida on Saturday. If that bout goes well, it is full speed ahead for the Tyson fight on Nov. 15. But if it doesn’t go well for Paul…all bets might just be off.

Jake Paul to face Mike Perry after Mike Tyson fight postponement

Paul: If I don’t beat Perry…

Paul seems to be keenly aware of the gamble he is making by fighting Perry — who has developed a reputation as one of the world’s fiercest bare-knuckle fighters through his UFC exploits. And although his focus is firmly on Perry, Paul understands that he is putting himself in some danger ahead of receiving the biggest paycheck in his life this November.

“A lot of people think I’m crazy for pivoting to this; why Mike Perry, why now, why take the risk, you could lose the biggest payday of your life against Mike Tyson if you lose to Mike Perry who is a violent killer, a bare-knuckle, undefeated legend over there,” Paul told DAZN in a new interview.

Paul has told DAZN and ESPN‘s “Pat McAfee Show” the same thing: if he loses to Perry, the Tyson fight isn’t going to happen.

This whole entire thing is a giant risk,” Paul said. “I’m focused on July 20, I’m focused on Mike Perry and just being in that mindset is what will lead me to victory.”

Who did Mike Tyson fight recently? Clues ahead of his Jake Paul fight

So why is Paul choosing to fight Perry, who boasts a perfect 5-0 record as a bare-knuckle fighter? One word: showmanship.

“I need the experience, I need to stay active. I fear no man, I’m ready anytime, any place, anyone, and I truly back that up with my action,” Paul explained to DAZN. “It’s not something I just say walking around. I’m just down to f***ing fight and I love performing.”

Paul understands the bet he’s making, and how easily it could backfire and set his boxing career back. The former YouTube star is going forward with it anyway, and it remains to be seen whether he can ward off Perry‘s challenge on Saturday night.

Oleksandr Usyk’s coach has refused to rule out a mixed martial arts “wildcard” option if he defeats Tyson Fury again.

Earlier this year, Oleksandr Usyk was able to overcome Tyson Fury in their undisputed heavyweight boxing showdown. It was an incredible contest full of many twists and turns, but in the end, it was Usyk who managed to get his hand raised in victory.

Now, as you can imagine, the plan is for them to run it back. They made a whole lot of money the first time around, and that’ll likely be the case with the second one – regardless of where it’s held.

Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury - who wins and how? Boxing industry picks | Boxing News

In a recent interview, Usyk’s coach Sergey Lapin discussed some fascinating possibilities for what he could do after the Fury rivalry is over.

Usyk’s exciting future

“He’s proven he’s the best of this generation and once he’s retired Tyson Fury, he will consider his options,” Lapin told Betway. “Maybe that’s dropping down in weight again. Or, maybe there’s a wildcard option on the table for him, be it in the boxing ring, the MMA cage. Or, even Conor McGregor’s Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC).

“Can you imagine Usyk and Jon Jones fighting to prove they’re the baddest man on the planet?” he continued. “Or maybe it’s a third fight with Anthony Joshua in the MMA cage. Maybe it’s Jake Paul at Cruiserweight. Although, Usyk would need to fight him with one hand behind his back though to make it fair.”

Tiger Woods has delivered a withering takedown of Colin Montgomerie, after the Scot suggested the 15-times major champion should retire. Woods has arrived at Royal Troon for the 152nd Open Championship with speculation this could be his last.

The 48-year-old, who has been beset by injury troubles, finished 60th at the Masters before missing the cut in the USPGA Championship and US Open. Montgomerie, who never won a major, used a weekend interview to imply Woods should call time on his decorated career. On Tuesday, Woods fired back.

“Well, as a past [Open] champion, I’m exempt until I’m 60,” Woods said. “Colin’s not. He’s not a past champion, so he’s not exempt. So he doesn’t get the opportunity to make that decision. I do.”

Tiger Woods criticizes players who left PGA Tour for LIV Golf: "They turn their backs on what allowed them to get to that position" | Marca

Pressed on whether he feels he deserves the right to dictate his own playing future, Woods again referenced Montgomerie. “When I get to his age, I get to still make that decision, where he doesn’t,” he said. “I’ll play as long as I can play and I feel like I can still win the event.” There was a firm “no” to whether or not his belief has wavered during turbulent times.

News of the Woods broadside reached the 61-year-old Montgomerie quickly. “If golf writers want my thoughts on Tiger please ask me direct, rather than taking a quote from an interview out of context,” he said on social media. “Wishing Tiger an enjoyable and successful week.”

This was as punchy as Woods has been for some time. He was more expansive on the subject of the Ryder Cup captaincy, which he passed over after months of negotiations with the PGA of America. The 38-year-old Keegan Bradley was revealed as the shock choice to lead the US at Bethpage next September after Woods determined the role was not for him. The likelihood is Woods will be captain at Adare Manor in 2027. For now, he is immersed in negotiations that may or may not lead to the PGA Tour forming an alliance with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.

“The decision was very difficult for me to make,” Woods said. “My time has been so loaded with the Tour and what we’re trying to accomplish. I’m on so many different subcommittees that it just takes so much time in the day. I’m always on calls.

“I told Seth [Waugh, the PGA of America’s chief executive] that I just didn’t feel like I could do the job properly. I couldn’t devote the time. I barely had enough time to do what I’m doing right now. And add in the TGL [a tech-infused golf league] starts next year, as well as the Ryder Cup. You add all that together and then with our negotiations with the PIF, all that concurrently going on at exactly the same time, there’s only so many hours in the day.

“I just didn’t feel like I would be doing the captaincy or the players in Team USA justice if I was the captain with everything that I have to do.

“Keegan is going to be a great leader. He’s very passionate about what he does. He’s very passionate about the event. This is going to be probably a turnover year for us for the captaincies, whether it’s the captain itself and his vice-captains. This is the natural progression, one we’ve been looking forward to.” Woods has not been asked to serve as a vice-captain to Bradley.

An indication that tales of Woods’s demise may be premature came in context of the PGA Tour’s lucrative set of signature events. Starting in 2025, Woods has a lifetime exemption into them. This seems a futile exercise if he has no intention of playing.

“I told them, if I was going to get that exemption I wasn’t going to take away the last player’s spot,” said Woods. “Let’s hypothetically say there’s 72 players in the field at each one of the signature events. If I want to play, I’ll be the 73rd player. There will be an odd man and be a twosome out or whatever.

“I’m not going to take another person’s spot. Even though it’s nice of them to do that and ask me to play more often and have that ability to play, these guys have earned their spots. But if I can be included somehow, that would be great.”

Woods revealed he made contact with Rory McIlroy after the Northern Irishman’s painful implosion at Pinehurst last month. McIlroy conceded the US Open to Bryson DeChambeau after dropping three shots in the last four holes. “I just sent him a nice text, that was it,” Woods said. “I waited a week before I sent it. I wanted to let it calm down. I know he was being besieged by a lot of different things.

“It was just basically, ‘I’m your friend. I know this is a difficult moment.’ We’ve all been there as champions. We all lose. Unfortunately, it just happened, and the raw emotion of it, it’s still there, and it’s going to be there for, I’m sure, some time. The faster he’s able to get back on a horse and get back into contention, like he did last week, the better it is for him.”

McIlroy later explained he had changed his number so did not receive Woods’s sentiment. Unlike on Montgomerie, this was a message that did not land.

Alexis Ohanian is opening up about his health and a recent diagnosis.

The 41-year-old entrepreneur husband of Serena Williams took to X (formerly Twitter) to share that after some testing, he learned that he has Lyme disease.

“Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc, and found out I have lyme disease. Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat. Good cholesterol is too low. Bad cholesterol is just OK. Gotta work on that. On the plus-side: 822 ng/dL total + 162 ng/dL free testosterone,” he shared on his X account.

Novak Djokovic has admitted he isn’t at the same level as Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner, with tennis fans and pundits questioning whether the Serbian star will ever win another grand slam. Djokovic was blown off the court by Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final on Sunday, with the Spanish whiz-kid defending his title with a 6-2 6-2 7-6 (7-4) triumph.

Alcaraz became just the sixth man in the Open era to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year, leaving Djokovic shell-shocked with his level of play. Djokovic came into the tournament just weeks after undergoing knee surgery, and produced a remarkable effort just to make the

But many are questioning whether he’ll ever get that elusive 25th grand slam title – which would see him go one clear of Margaret Court for the most in tennis history. Speaking to reporters after the crushing loss, Djokovic made the brutal admission that he isn’t at the same level as Alcaraz or Sinner (who beat him at the Australian Open) this year.

“The Olympic Games and US Open are the two big goals for the rest of the year for me really,” Djokovic said. “I’m hoping I can be at my best in those two tournaments, yeah. That’s all I can say right now.

“I mean, being able to reach the finals of Wimbledon, of course, it’s a great confidence boost. But I also feel like in a match-up today against [the] best player right now in the world for sure, I mean, other than Jannik, and both of them are the best this year by far, I feel like I’m not at that level.

“In order to really have a chance to I guess beat these guys in grand slam latter stages or Olympics, I’m going to have to play much better than I did today and feel much better than I did today. I’m going to work on it. It’s not something I haven’t experienced before ever in my life. I’ve had so many different experiences throughout my career. In the face of adversity, normally I rise and I learn and get stronger. That’s what I’m going to do.”

Discussing the match in commentary for BBC, Nick Kyrgios and Tim Henman debated whether the 37-year-old Djokovic has enough left in the tank to win another major. “In all honesty, for 6-2 6-2 5-4 40-0, it was an annihilation,” said Henman. “Alcaraz was just absolutely phenomenal.

“The tone was set in that first service game of Djokovic, it was a 14 or 15-minute game. Alcaraz was able to get that break of serve and then he was just relentless. He gave Djokovic nothing to get his teeth stuck into. We were just waiting for the reaction, we were waiting for Djokovic to respond and that really only happened late in the third set when, in all honesty, it was just a little bit too late.”

Aussie star Kyrgios added: “Physically he is not 100% but he decided to play it and he has said time and time again how important this event is to him. Look, he just came out a little bit flat, understandably at 37, he has won this championship seven times but Alcaraz was just a bit too much today.

“He threw everything at Carlos in the third set and he just kept coming up with answers time and time again. Me and Tim have had this conversation, it is a conversation all tennis fans need to have, is there one more slam left for Djokovic on the calendar? With the come up of Alcaraz, and obviously two times in a row beating him in the final, does Djokovic have enough left in the tank to get one more slam?”

As a two-time Olympic gold medal winner, Claressa Shields had some of her fondest boxing memories from the Olympic Games.

So as far as the Paris 2024 Olympics go, who does “The GWOAT” like to win gold? The undisputed middleweight women’s world champion is going with Jajaira Gonzalez, a 27-year-old from Glendora, California.

“Jajaira Gonzalez is the best, she’s like a sister to me,” Shields recently told SportsHandle.com. “We’ve traveled the world together. I believe her and Morelle McCane had some of the best fights back in 2016 to make the Olympics. Morelle made it by a hair, but Jajaira has been around for a long time.”

And through that time, Shields believes that Gonzalez has gained invaluable ring experience that will pay off in the Olympics.

“She’s been in the ring with the best, like Queen Underwood and the girls who are now pros doing big things,” added Shields who will clash with Vanessa Joanisse for the WBC heavyweight women’s title on July 27, live on DAZN.

“I believe Jajaira has the best chance at the gold medal because of her experience,” she tacked on. “I know all of them can do it, but Jajaira has the most experience.”

Tyson Fury is the leading heavyweight contender in the latest WBC rankings following confirmation that Anthony Joshua, the previous WBC mandatory, will challenge the IBF titlist Daniel Dubois in September.

Joshua has been removed from the ratings as per WBC policy regarding fighters competing for rival belts. Taking his place in the Top 15, at number 15, is Sweden’s Otto Wallin, who Joshua knocked out in December. Oleksandr Usyk is the WBC champion.

There is still no place for Joseph Parker because he holds the needless WBO interim title. Zhilei Zhang, who lost to Parker in March, is ranked third and Deontay Wilder, outpointed by Parker in December, is 14th.

Johnny Fisher enters for the first time following his recent 36-second knockout victory over Alen Babic. The Romford ticket-seller is rated at 38, but Babic keeps his place at bridgerweight, where he can be found at 15th.

“One of the best ones out there… he’s really one of the pound-for-pound best ones out of the coop,” Jones began explaining about Davis, the WBA lightweight world champion, while speaking with Stephen Jackson on All the Smoke Fight.

“He can punch but he also can box. Some that can punch, can’t box. He can box, he can punch, he can move laterally, he can do it left side, right side.
