After Remy Ma called out Papoose and Claressa Shields for their relationship last year, the athlete challenged her to a boxing match.

Claressa Shields found herself wrapped up in a great deal of drama last year when Remy Ma put her and Papoose on blast for their relationship. According to her, however, she doesn’t have any interest in beef. During a recent chat with her fans on Instagram Live, the athlete explained that she doesn’t feud with women over men, despite how it may look.

“I’ve never had beef with a girl over a boy or a man, it’s never happened to me,” she began. “I’m not one of them. I’ve never dealt with a man that was involved with another woman. I’ve never done that, I don’t have to … Every man I’ve ever been with has been 100% for me. The last time I got mad over a dude being with me and talking to another girl was when I was like 16. That was a long long time ago. I’m 30 years old.”

As expected, social media users have a lot to say about Shields’ claims, and they’re sounding off in The Neighborhood Talk‘s comments section. “You were just beefing with remy over HER husband 😂,” one commenter writes. “Does she know her boyfriend is married?” someone else also wonders. Others point out that when Remy called her and Papoose out for their relationship, she challenged the rapper to a boxing match.

During an appearance on Baby This Is Keke Palmer last month, however, she was asked when the fight would be going down. This prompted her to confirm that she was only joking, and had no real intentions of clashing with anybody. “Listen, I woke up that morning just as shocked as everybody. Like, what the hell? Oh, my God. What’s going on? I’m like, ‘I want to promote the movie. What is this?’” the professional boxer also recalled. “So, you know, they say all publicity is good publicity.”

‘I would love to share the ring with her’ Lauren Price answers Claressa Shields’ ‘eat a hamburger’ call-out

Claressa Shields is currently women’s boxing’s undisputed heavyweight champion and Lauren Price is the unified WBC, WBA and IBF welterweight titlist; they might be far apart in weight now but both are middleweight Olympic gold medallists and want to meet in a major professional fight

Britain’s Lauren Price and American star Claressa Shields are far apart in weight currently, but both are eyeing a future super-fight.

Shields, previously an undisputed champion at super-welter and middleweight, is women’s boxing’s undisputed heavyweight champion.

Price at present is the unified WBC, WBA and IBF welterweight world champion with her sights set on an undisputed title clash with WBO belt-holder Mikaela Mayer.

But both Price and Shields are middleweight Olympic gold medallists, twice over in the American’s case, and both would relish a collision as professional boxers.

“Definitely,” Price told Sky Sports News. “My full focus is on 147lbs at the minute and becoming undisputed but definitely a fight down the line.

“I would love to share the ring with her, obviously Olympic champion as well. Double Olympic champion, I’m Olympic champion, it’s a great fight to make. Definitely.”

Shields called Price out. “I want to fight everybody,” she told Sky Sports. “We have some new blood on the scene. I’ve seen Lauren Price fight. I was like wow, pretty impressive. Pretty impressive.
“[154lbs] is the lowest I can get. If she wants to fight at 160lbs too, don’t be afraid to get a hamburger and come on up.”
‘We can prove who’s the best Olympic champion’

Shields previously told Sky Sports: “It’s hard to put anything past Olympic champions. She won the Olympics 2021.

“I feel like when you’ve been all over the world and you’ve boxed and you’ve won world championships, it’s kind of destined for you to be great in the pros. I wish her the best of luck.

“She won the Olympics at 165lbs (75kgs) just as I did – two times – and if she ever wants to fight I would love to fight against her too,” Shields added.

“I believe anything is possible and I really want to fight anybody that wants to fight me. So if Lauren Price keeps winning and comes to 154lbs, 160, 168, we can fight and prove who’s the best Olympic champion.”

Congratulation Claressa Shields Cleared to Fight Again as Boxing Suspension Ends Officially After She expressed her frustration

Claressa Shields has had her doping suspension officially removed following her February 2nd win against Danielle Perkins after she tested positive for cannabis. But despite her reinstatement, the Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission has left the door open for future action against her in the form of a fine or reversal of her victory

Shields, commonly referred to as the Greatest Woman of All Time (GWOAT) of boxers, defeated Perkins in a one-sided unanimous decision on February 2, 2025. Post-fight testing for drugs was routine and detected the presence of traces of marijuana in her body, and the MUCC provisionally suspended her. She was cited as posing “an imminent threat to the integrity of professional boxing, the public interest, and the welfare and safety of professional athletes

Shields denied ever using the drug from the beginning and claimed that she had never smoked it. She suggested that secondhand exposure was perhaps the source of the positive test because there was a pungent smell of marijuana in the fight arena during the night of the contest. Shields came up with a follow-up test of her urine as evidence in her defense, which was negative.

Shields testified on March 6, 2025, to the MUCC during a hearing on compliance, presenting evidence to contest the reasons for her suspension. Based on her case hearing, the commission ruled that she was no longer a threat to the integrity of the sport and the health of the participants. Therefore, on March 14, 2025, the MUCC officially lifted her suspension so that she can continue competing.

Shields expressed her frustration about the issue on social media using Officially unsuspended! Y’all are kinda quiet now! Y’all was mighty loud about me ‘supposedly’ smokin’ weed and gettin’ suspended! No worries! And still an undisputed heavyweight champ!

Her answer reflects growing controversy surrounding the regulations of cannabis in professional sport, particularly in states where the drug is legal. Whilst cannabis is legal to consume in Michigan, it remains banned in competition under rules of the World Anti-Doping Agency that were at the center of Shields’ disciplinary case.

Despite her suspension being lifted, Shields’ case is not settled as the MUCC has announced that the enforcement action is not entirely concluded. This would mean she can be subjected to additional penalties like being fined or her victory being converted into a no-contest result.

Shields’ case is not unique in professional sport. There have been controversies in the UFCNFL, and other combat sports too where players have been suspended for the use of marijuana even as the drug becomes more decriminalized.

Worth note also are the instances of UFC fighter Nick Diaz and NFL player Josh Gordon who each were suspended for lengthy periods of time for rule infractions because of cannabis use, sparking controversy as to whether organizations like WADA should reconsider their position.

Detroit Free Press: Suspending Michigan Boxer Claressa Shields For Marijuana is ‘Ludicrous’

Flint native Claressa Shields, one of the most outstanding boxers in the world, has been suspended by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs on behalf of the Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission after testing positive for a trace amount of marijuana.

She has denied ever using the drug and is fighting the suspension.

But that’s beside the point, according to Khalil AlHajal, deputy editorial page editor of the Detroit Free Press, who has written a column explaining why the suspension is absurd.

First, AlHajal points out that medical marijuana was legalized in Michigan in 2008, and in 2018, voters approved its recreational use.

He calls the suspension over marijuana “ludicrous” and goes on to say:

The changes [in marijuana laws] have not made their way to the state’s regulations around combat sports, leading to last month’s ludicrous suspension of one of Michigan’s greatest athletes, potentially tarnishing her spotless reputation for clean competition…

The state’s order of suspension absurdly calls Shields’ supposed conduct “an imminent threat to the integrity of the sport of professional boxing” and “the public interest.”

AlHajal also notes that the trace amount of marijuana was detected after Shields was tested following a fight in Flint last month. Two other boxers that night also tested positive.

He goes on to write:

A Free Press writer who covered the event confirmed reports that weed smoke was noticeable throughout the arena that night, and it isn’t inconceivable that secondhand exposure may have played a role in those test results.

Claressa Shields And Ryan Garcia Bitterly React To Controversial Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach Fight

Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach ended in a majority draw at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn because of a massively controversial moment.

Davis took a knee in the ninth round which appeared to be intentional. The referee, however, didn’t call it a knockdown. The particular moment has stirred up social media and drawn reactions from other fighters.

The judges scored the contest a majority draw, 114-114, 114-114 and 115-113 Davis. Courtesy of the draw, Davis retained his WBA lightweight title.

Ryan Garcia and Claressa Shields have reacted to the controversial moment during Davis vs Roach, with both agreeing that the referee made a terrible mistake. Shields wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

Gervonta Davis claimed that he took the knee due to having issues with his hair. He told the media after the fight:

Roach reckons the moment should have been called a knockdown, saying:

If you take a knee and the ref starts counting, it should be a knockdown. If that’s a knockdown, I win the fight. I’m not banking on that knockdown to win. I just thought I pulled it

Congratulation as Claressa Shields Beats Danielle Perkins to Become Undisputed Heavyweight Champion

Claressa Shields continued her case as the GWOAT with a unanimous decision win over Danielle Perkins to become the undisputed heavyweight champion in front of a hometown crowd at the Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan.

The stark size difference was noticable from the jump. Perkins’ build as a legitimate heavyweight towered over Shields

However, it didn’t take long for the big skills gap to show up either. Shields took it to her opponent and immediately put pressure on Perkins to return fire.

The GWOAT had her first major moment in the third round when she rocked Perkins with a clean right hand.

Perkins did settle in to some degree after the first few rounds. Former welterweight champion Shawn Porter gave Perkins a round after she forced Shields into some exchanges.

If there’s a criticism to be made of Shields it was that she may have taken her foot off the gas in the later rounds. She was countering Perkins hard, but wasn’t exactly going all-out to finish the fight.

That was, until she landed an absolute missile of a right hand that floored Perkins in the final seconds.

Shields had previously won the WBC heavyweight championship, but her victory over Perkins added the previously vacant WBO and IBF championship belts to her stacked trophy case. Shields now holds active belts in three different weight classes with two middleweight titles and the WBO light heavyweight championship currently on her resume.

In total, Shields has won world titles in five different weight classes and it’s hard to come up with who can really give her a challenge on paper.

The 29-year-old wasn’t even calling out any of her potential opponents in women’s boxing. She did, however, have some words for YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

“Jake Paul cannot beat me in a fight,” she told Patrick Snell of CNN. “Anybody who thinks that needs to just go and wash their face and brush their teeth and kind of wake up and smell the real air in the world.”

She went on to say that she didn’t think Paul would accept a fight against her but extended an invitation to spar with her.

That alone would probably do well if it were offered as a public broadcast.

As it stands, the biggest challenge for Shields is going to be finding opponents that can generate some interest in her fights. Shields has mentioned IBF light heavyweight champion Lani Daniels as a possible challenger and undefeated WBA light heavyweight champion Che Kenneally could be another option.

But Shields would still be a prohibitive favorite against those world champions.

Shields won the WBC heavyweight title with a second-round knockout of Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse this past July.

Perkins (5-0, 2 KOs) has never been scheduled for more than eight rounds and comes into the bout as far less experienced than her championship opponent. Perkins boxed on the undercard of Shields’ fight with Lepage-Joanisse, winning a wide unanimous decision over Christianne Fahey.

This weekend, Claressa Shields will attempt to increase her collection of heavyweight titles when she takes on Danielle Perkins in a clash that has been eagerly anticipated by boxing fans for some time

Shields will make the first defense of her WBC crown as she pursues the undisputed crown against the challenger, who is seeking her first world title.

Shields, a two-weight undisputed champion with a brilliant career so far, goes into the ring as the favorite to take the victory, but will also be wary of any possible danger in the event to be held at the Dort Financial Center in Detroit, Michigan.

The two-time Olympic champion Shields (15-0, 3 KOs) will look to keep her professional unbeaten streak alive in her hometown of Michigan against undefeated heavyweight contender Danielle Perkins.

The fight will be for Shields’ WBC heavyweight title and the WBO light heavyweight title, as well as the vacant WBA heavyweight title.

“I feel very blessed at this time in my life and career,” Shields said in a statement. “But make no mistake, every blessing came with blood, sweat and tears. My home in Flint helped shape me into the person I am today. That city, with all its struggles and strengths, built something in me that cannot be broken.

“Without Flint and the determination I developed there at an early age, I don’t know if I would be here today. I can’t wait for this homecoming event,” Claressa added.

While Perkins (5-0, 2 KOs), a native of Brooklyn, New York, won her last fight by unanimous decision over Christianne Fahey in July to become the top-ranked contender, Shields has taken note of this.

“Danielle Perkins is undefeated and a strong contender, but I’ve been fighting my whole life, not just in the ring,” said Shields. “Whether it’s in my personal life, in the amateur boxing ring or as a professional world champion, I just don’t fail. February 2 will be no different.”

‘100 percent intent to kill’: Claressa Shields vs Danielle Perkins press conference quotes

Claressa Shields and Danielle Perkins will square off in a Sunday evening main event from Flint, Mich., streaming live on DAZN, for the undisputed championship of the women’s heavyweight division, which realistically doesn’t actually exist, but all the same, it’s Shields trying to become a three-weight undisputed champ.

Shields says she’s not overlooking Perkins, and that she believes the naturally bigger woman to be a dangerous opponent.

“Danielle might be stronger, she is smooth and has skills,” Shields said. “She went to the world championships and won a gold medal and a bronze. I won three gold medals at the world championships and two Olympic gold medals.

“Danielle may not be the fastest, she’s unorthodox and is a southpaw, but when she hits her opponents, their whole game plans change.”

The 29-year-old Shields (15-0, 3 KO) will be an enormous favorite in the fight, because she has simply proven herself a level — at least — above her competition so many times now, and on paper, Perkins (5-0, 2 KO) just doesn’t seem like the woman to change that.

But Perkins says nobody has seen her at her best yet, because she struggles to find decent opposition herself.

“No one has ever wanted to fight me,” Perkins said, after giving Shields credit for fighting as a heavyweight. “I have only had five professional fights because no one wants to step in the ring with me. It’s unfortunate because I’ve got some skills.

“I know that Claressa is up for the challenge. This is a real risk. No other middleweight would ever take this kind of risk.”

Perkins, 42, admits that she and Shields are friends outside of the ring, but insists that will have no bearing on how she fights.

“I have never had any ill will toward Claressa outside of the ring, but I am going into this fight with 100 percent intent to kill,” she said. “It has nothing to do with her outside of the ring.”
