“He Beat Him” Evander Holyfield Has No Doubt Floyd Mayweather Should Have Lost One Fight

Evander Holyfield doesn’t think Floyd Mayweather should have his undefeated record.

Mayweather retired in 2017 after going 50-0 as a professional, claiming world titles in five divisions from super-featherweight to super-welterweight along the way

That success saw him become the biggest star in the sport, where he was involved in some of the highest grossing events in recent history, including his fights with Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya.

It was one of those fights that Holyfield felt Mayweather should have lost though, after he was asked by Sports Inquirer if he thought Pacquiao should have got the verdict in their clash

“I totally thought he did [win the fight].

I actually thought Pacquiao was doing well.”

Holyfield then explained what he saw in the fight that made him come to that decision.

“The fact of the matter is, you’re the more aggressive one, you hit him with the shots… Pacquiao seem to hit him (Mayweather) more times than he hit Pacquiao.”

Holyfield himself knows what it is like to have been involved in some closely-fought battles, with his initial fight with Lennox Lewis in March 1999 one that was controversial after many felt ‘The Real Deal’ was fortunate to come away with a draw.

Another heavyweight icon that Holyfield fought during his career was the late, great George Foreman, with the two legends meeting in April 1991. Just like Holyfield, ‘Big George’ also once named a fight that he feels Mayweather should have lost.

Larry Holmes Has No Doubt Who Would Win Prime Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield After Facing Both

Larry Holmes knows what it feels like to share the ring with both Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield.

Holmes is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, first becoming world champion in 1978 and making 20 straight defences before losing back-to-back fights against Michael Spinks

He then went up against mike Tyson in January 1988, suffering a fourth round knockout defeat, marking the first time that Holmes had been stopped in his professional career.

Holmes rebuilt with six straight victories, earning him another crack at world honours when he met Holyfield in June 1992.

It was Holyfield who was victorious, winning the fight by unanimous decision. Holmes would fight for another decade after that point, retiring in 2002 with a final record of 69 wins and just 6 defeats.

Having fought both Tyson and Holyfield, Holmes has given his verdict to Vlad TV on who he feels was the best when both were in their prime.

“Evander is the better boxer.”

Tyson and Holyfield met on two occasions, with Holyfield winning the first bout in November 1996 after securing an 11th round stoppage against ‘Iron Mike

An infamous rematch then took place seven months later, where Tyson was disqualified in the third round after biting the ear of Holyfield.

Holyfield retired in 2011, while Tyson initially hung up his gloves in 2005, before returning in November at the age of 58 for a controversial clash against Youtuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, which ended in a unanimous decision loss for ‘Iron Mike’ after eight rounds.

Rematch Prediction: Evander Holyfield Delivers His Honest Verdict On Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk Rematch

Like Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, Evander Holyfield had some famous rematches across his legendary career.

Arguably Holyfield’s most famous fight was his second contest with Mike Tyson. The pair first did battle in 1996 for the WBA heavyweight title and saw ‘The Real Deal’ win by stoppage in the 11th round.

A year later in 1997, they met in the ring once more, this time in a match that infamously became known as ‘the bite fight.’ Holyfield started well but Tyson grew frustrated with what he thought were intentional headbutts from his opponent.

He took matters into his own hands in the third round and bit a chunk out of Holyfield’s right ear before then doing the same again and eventually being disqualified.

There was nothing as bizarre about Fury and Usyk’s first fight back in May. Usyk came out as the points winner after landing the one standout punch of the fight in the ninth round and walked away from the ring as the undisputed heavyweight champion, a feat he achieved six years previous down at cruiserweight.

Speaking to FightHype, Holyfield was asked about the rematch and made it clear what Fury needs to do to avenge his only career defeat.

“I think that he gotta use the jab more. He’s going to have to double jab more, I think sometimes grabbing the person makes it worse for him. He has to be able to step back, come forward, step back. Grabbing people tends to give people a bit of a rest and give them the chance to hit you.”

Fury himself has vowed to be more concentrated in the rematch having admitted he lost focus in the first fight, while Usyk has conceded Fury was his toughest opponent.
