“He Beat Him” Evander Holyfield Has No Doubt Floyd Mayweather Should Have Lost One Fight

Evander Holyfield doesn’t think Floyd Mayweather should have his undefeated record.

Mayweather retired in 2017 after going 50-0 as a professional, claiming world titles in five divisions from super-featherweight to super-welterweight along the way

That success saw him become the biggest star in the sport, where he was involved in some of the highest grossing events in recent history, including his fights with Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya.

It was one of those fights that Holyfield felt Mayweather should have lost though, after he was asked by Sports Inquirer if he thought Pacquiao should have got the verdict in their clash

“I totally thought he did [win the fight].

I actually thought Pacquiao was doing well.”

Holyfield then explained what he saw in the fight that made him come to that decision.

“The fact of the matter is, you’re the more aggressive one, you hit him with the shots… Pacquiao seem to hit him (Mayweather) more times than he hit Pacquiao.”

Holyfield himself knows what it is like to have been involved in some closely-fought battles, with his initial fight with Lennox Lewis in March 1999 one that was controversial after many felt ‘The Real Deal’ was fortunate to come away with a draw.

Another heavyweight icon that Holyfield fought during his career was the late, great George Foreman, with the two legends meeting in April 1991. Just like Holyfield, ‘Big George’ also once named a fight that he feels Mayweather should have lost.

‘Hard road’ – Floyd Mayweather names toughest opponent he boxed during Hall of Fame career

Floyd Mayweather fought several great fighters during his illustrious career, but ‘TBE’ insists nobody gave him a tougher time than Miguel Cotto.

The pair met at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas back in 2012 for Cotto’s WBA super welterweight title.

Mayweather had initially been in negotiations to face Manny Pacquiao earlier in the year but those discussions collapsed when both parties were unable to agree on how the purse should be split.

Instead, a deal was struck with Cotto, who had rebounded from a last-gasp stoppage loss to Pacquiao three years prior to snatch the WBA belt from Yuri Foreman.

Mayweather was making his second appearance at 154lbs after previously beating Oscar De La Hoya for the WBC’s version of the super welterweight crown in 2007.

Cotto made good use of his larger frame by forcing Mayweather onto his heels and roughing him up on the inside.

However, the American was able use Cotto’s aggression against him with effective catches and counters.

In the end, Mayweather got his hand raised via unanimous decision with scorecards of 117–111, 117–111, and 118–110 in his favour.

The final punch stats showed that Mayweather had outlanded Cotto by 179 punches to 105.

“He Ran From Me” Long Reigning World Champion Says Floyd Mayweather Refused To Face Him: “He Ran From Me”

In the eyes of many, Floyd Mayweather is one of, if not the greatest fighter in boxing history.

The 47-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan walked away from boxing in 2017 having won all 50 of his professional contests

He won world titles in five weight classes, defeating the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya throughout his incredible career.

There was one man, however, who has accused ‘Money’ of avoiding a fight with him. That man is Brazilian boxing legend and two-weight world champion Acelino Freitas, who is often regarded as one of the most underrated fighters of all time.

Freitas rose from a poverty-stricken childhood to become an accomplished fighter who captured world titles at lightweight and super featherweight, in a career that spanned 22-years.

Speaking in an interview with BoxingScene, ‘Popo’ spoke of how he believed Mayweather ‘ran’ from him during his campaign at super featherweight.

“So many were running from me when I made 10 defenses [of lightweight and super featherweight titles].

I wanted to fight Floyd Mayweather but he did not want to fight me. It was easier for these guys to run from me. You can’t blame them.”

Freitas lost on just two occasions throughout his 43-fight career. He defeated the likes of Joel Casamayor and Barry Jones during his tenure, but did fall short in his 2004 contest with the late-great Diego Corrales, suffering a tenth-round stoppage victory at the hands of ‘Chico’.

‘Popo’ retired from unofficially professional boxing in 2017, but has since had four exhibition contests in his native Brazil.

#In Just 3 Words#: Terence Crawford Summed Up How A Fight Against Floyd Mayweather Would Go In Just 3 Words

Terence Crawford is currently 41 fights undefeated, nine off Floyd Mayweather‘s incredible record of 50-0.

The switch hitter from Omaha, Nebraska is a four-weight world champion with 31 stoppages to his name. He most recently won the WBA World Title in the super-welterweight ranks with a decision win over Israil Madrimov. That was the fourth division in which Crawford has won belts. He has also been undisputed in two – one of only three men to achieve that in the four-belt era

As Terence  Crawford continues to stake his claim as the best of a generation, fans are debating how he fares compared to the all-time greats. One intriguing fantasy match-up is against the last dominant American, Floyd Mayweather.

‘Money’ Mayweather famously retired undefeated in 2017 as one of the most lucrative stars the sport of boxing has ever seen. The defensive master beat the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosley and Oscar De La Hoya. Would Crawford be on that list if the pair had crossed paths?

Asked on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast how he would do against Mayweather, Crawford didn’t hesitate to back himself.

“Me vs anybody.”

Crawford’s trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre shares the same prediction, though he admits he is, like Crawford, biased.

“There are two things. For one, Crawford is like my son, so I’m going to always go with him

“Terence has that dog in him.”Terence didn’t get to where he is now overnight, it’s taken years and years.

“But, if you put ‘Bud’ in there in his prime with Mayweather in his prime, then of course Mayweather is gonna be the smarter one, but I think ‘Bud’ will have more dog in him.”

Whether or not ‘Bud’ could break the famed defences of Mayweather down will always be resigned to debate. Meanwhile, Crawford chases his own fight with Canelo which would require him to jump up a further two weight classes.

Talk of the Town, Gervonta Davis Caught in Crossfire as Floyd Mayweather’s Call to Keyshawn Davis Becomes Talk of the Town

Lightweight prospect Keyshawn Davis is coming off a dominant 2nd round knockout win over Gustavo Lemos. He dropped the Argentinian opponent three times in the 2nd round before getting his hand raised in his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia. Since the fight, Davis has revealed details about his post-fight calls with five-division champion Floyd Mayweather on social media.

‘Money’ Mayweather retired from the sport in 2017 following his win over former UFC champion Conor McGregor. However, his relationship with boxing didn’t end there. He has been guiding several boxers through the pro ranks and into stardom. Regardless, since Keyshawn’s post on Instagram about the call with Mayweather, Gervonta Davis seems to have gotten caught in the crossfire, as fans share their opinion.

Keyshawn Davis reveals Mayweather’s call amid feud with Gervonta Davis

Earlier today, 25-year-old undefeated lightweight Keyshawn Davis took to Instagram to reveal insights into his post-fight conversations with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. “It’s crazy, Floyd calls me after every fight just to discuss my performance. Not only is he the GOAT, but he’s also a real mentor,” Davis wrote while sharing a screenshot of his FaceTime conversation with ‘Money.’ Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, who once fought under Mayweather’s promotional banner, departed from the promotion in May 2022, citing a desire to promote his own fights. However, tensions between them had been apparent for some time, as the two frequently clashed on and off social media.

In more recent times, the Davis duo has been clashing on social media. Before Keyshawn’s fight earlier this week, the 25-year-old was taking shots at ‘Tank,’ with the latter firing back on X. So, given their newfound animosity against each other, people started speculating a fight could be on the horizon.

In what appears to be an attempt to fan the flames, Keyshawn Davis shared details about his phone call with Mayweather. It’s also worth mentioning that the legendary boxer was previously pushing for a fight between ‘Tank’ and WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, but that never ended up happening.

Gervonta Davis is currently slated to fight Lamont Roach sometime in January next year, but no location or specific date has been revealed as of the time of writing. That said, Keyshawn’s post today seems to have been enough to send fans into a frenzy.

Fan alleges Floyd Mayweather is behind Keyshawn’s post

Even though ‘The Businessman’ never mentioned Gervonta Davis in his post, fans were quick to rope in the WBO lightweight champion. One user implied Keyshawn’s post was a direct jab at ‘Tank.’ “Y’all love making tank mad for some reason😂😂💯,” the user wrote. However, it’s difficult to say whether Gervonta Davis even cares about such a thing.

Another user felt Floyd Mayweather may have pushed Keyshawn to start the feud with ‘Tank.’ “Now we know why you beefing wit tank 😂,” the user commented. Despite their beef, it’s unclear whether this will spill over into a full-blown fight.

Meanwhile, this user thought Keyshawn’s post about Mayweather was genuine. “I can definitely tell he been mentoring you with your defense in the fight. You barely got touched and counter punches were 🔒,” the user wrote. However, why would a rising boxer wait so long to announce his affiliation with one of boxing’s biggest stars when he could have done it earlier to attract more attention?

Someone else alleged that Floyd Mayweather was the one stirring up trouble for Gervonta Davis.“Floyd sending everybody after Tank 😂,” commented the user. Well, he has done this in the past. Why not now?

The next user proposed Keyshawn should fight someone else. “Fight Andy Cruz what makes u think u going to get fight before shakur smh,” the user wrote. However, it appears neither of them are getting the fight against Gervonta Davis. Having said that, the post from Keyshawn Davis seems to have failed to make people buy into the whole post-fight discussion with Floyd Mayweather. Instead, the prevailing sentiment seems to be that it was a clear dig at Gervonta Davis. What do you think?

Floyd Mayweather and John Gotti III

Floyd Mayweather will return to the ring just over a year after his first fight with John Gotti III.

Their first encounter ended in controversy, as referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight in the sixth round after both fighters ignored his instructions to stop using offensive language.

While facing John Gotti III is a step in the right direction for the “retired” Mayweather, the odds for Mayweather vs Gotti have “Money” Mayweather as the heavy favorite at -3,000 points.

Although it is an exhibition match and will not count toward his official record, Mayweather boasts a perfect 50-0 record, meaning that every time he steps into the ring, he commands the attention of his fans.

His opponent, John Gotti III, who originally started as a mixed martial arts fighter and is the grandson of the infamous New York mafia boss from the 1980s, will make his third appearance in the boxing ring, with his first two bouts ending in victory.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. will go around with John Gotti III for a second time this month in another exhibition bout at Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico, more than a year after their first descended into chaos with a no-contest result.

The pair previously met in 2023 as part of the undefeated fighter’s continued raft of one-off fights since his professional retirement, but farcical scenes ensured after trash-talking by both camps ended with a ring invasion and backstage brawling.

The two will hope to have a definitive answer in this latest contest, as Mayweather squares off with Gotti, the grandson of legendary monster John Gotti and a professional mixed martial artist in his own right. The latter could credibly score an upset if he exploits his opponent’s aging form, but with Mayweather continuing to defy expectations, even in these “friendly” contests, it will certainly take a terrific effort to stop him.

Elsewhere on the bill, Victor Ortiz and Rodrigo Damian Coria are set to go toe-to-toe, while there will also be an encounter between David Picasso and Azat Hovhanisyan.

So, when and where can you watch it all unfold? Who else is on the bill? What are the headline duo’s fight records? Allow GOAL to give you all the details as Floyd Mayweather and John Gotti III prepare to clash in the ring once again.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has recently voiced doubts about the true extent of Floyd Mayweather’s wealth, despite the retired boxer’s claims of financial supremacy. Known as the most financially successful fighter in boxing history, Mayweather, now 47, retired with a perfect 50-0 record and has since engaged in numerous exhibition bouts.

However, Hearn, in a candid interview, questioned whether Mayweather still possesses the vast sums of money he once flaunted.

Floyd Mayweather suggests he could take part in Saudi exhibition fight | Arab News

Hearn’s skepticism centers around Mayweather’s lavish lifestyle, which includes extravagant spending on luxury cars, private jets, and high-stakes gambling.

Despite Mayweather’s assertions that he has made smart investments, including ventures in real estate and gold mines in Dubai, Hearn isn’t convinced. In an interview with GRM Daily, Hearn believes Mayweather’s lifestyle as diminished his net worth.

“I don’t think he’s got the money he says. I don’t think he needs the money, but when you’ve got that lifestyle, when he’s spending what he’s spending, you start to wonder,”

Mayweather, who topped Forbes’ list of highest-paid athletes with a reported $700 million earnings in 2019, has been adamant that his continued participation in exhibition fights is not driven by financial need but by his love for the sport. “I was born to be a fighter, I’m gonna die a fighter,” Mayweather has said, dismissing claims that he’s fighting for money.

Earlier this year, his former protege, Gervonta Davis claimed that Mayweather was being detained in Dubai over unpaid debts.

Floyd Mayweather Set To Rematch John Gotti III

The First Fight Ended In A Brawl

Nonetheless, the ongoing exhibition bouts, including a forthcoming rematch with John Gotti III on August 24 in Mexico, have fueled speculation about Mayweather’s financial situation. The rematch comes after their first fight in June 2023 ended in chaos, with a mass brawl breaking out after the referee stopped the fight due to excessive trash-talking.

Despite these doubts, Mayweather continues to assert that he is not fighting for money, pointing to his investments and business acumen. However, Hearn’s remarks add to the growing debate about whether “Money” Mayweather’s wealth is as secure as it once was, or if his lavish spending has taken a toll on his financial empire. As Mayweather prepares for his eighth exhibition match later this month, the questions surrounding his financial health remain at the forefront of boxing discussions. Despite the speculation, Mayweather continues to flaunt his wealth on social media.

The question of who’s the best fighter of the 21st century may not be such a slam dunk after all.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has paved the way for nearly all of it, and no fighter has really come close, but the last few years have opened up a lot of eyes, and Terence “Bud” Crawford is right there knocking on Floyd’s—to this point—untouchable perch. On Saturday night, Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) won a world title in a fourth weight class as he out-hustled and outworked a game Israil Madrimov in a 12-round unanimous decision victory at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. The judges had it 115-113 twice and 116-112 for Crawford.

Give the man his respect. Last year, Crawford dominated and stopped then-unbeaten unified world champion Errol Spence Jr. in a ninth-round TKO to become the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era and a two-weight undisputed champion overall as he also once held all four belts at 140 pounds. For all that he’s done in the sport, Mayweather never achieved such a distinction. However, that’s not the entire story.

Floyd Mayweather: Terence Crawford vs. prime Floyd Mayweather - Who wins? Raging debate splits boxing Twitter with polarized opinions

Mayweather or Crawford?

Mayweather never truly wanted to become the undisputed champion. His goal was to win the biggest fights and generate the most money of any fighter in history.

After beating Zab Judah in 2006 to become the IBF welterweight titleholder, Mayweather bought out his contract under Top Rank to control his own destiny. Instead of facing WBO 147-pound titlist Antonio Margarito for $8 million, Mayweather went a different route. He expressed a desire to move up to junior middleweight to challenge then-WBC 154-pound world champion Oscar De La Hoya to win a world title in a fifth weight division. Before making the jump, Mayweather vacated his IBF title and defeated then-WBC welterweight champ Carlos Baldomir, who previously beat Judah. If your goal is to make the most money, it’s not rocket science. You’ll pick De La Hoya over Margarito every day of the week.

Once Mayweather turned 33, he embraced his “Money” era. No longer was he fixated on taking the biggest fights, but more of a combination. A mix of big names was headed towards the twilight of their career, younger fighters looking to make a name for themselves, and a fighter people had been calling on him to fight for a long time.

Crawford is older than Mayweather was at this point. He’s 36 years old, and his legacy is still expanding. He didn’t take a tune-up before moving up to 154 pounds to challenge the WBA champion in Madrimov. Some will say, ‘Madrimov only had 11 fights.’ Yes, and he had a belt. That says more about Madrimov than anything else. Others may chime in, ‘Crawford has to take these fights. Mayweather struck gold and didn’t have to take as many risks.’ You can also say that, but ask yourself: Is Crawford in for the money or legacy? Mayweather was the guy who said, “Your kids can’t eat legacy.”

Mayweather Could End Retirement For Crawford Fight Claims Gervonta Davis Coach

While that’s true, regardless of one’s popularity or journey, the fact of the matter is that Crawford isn’t exactly a young fighter, but he’s one of the best at a young man’s game, and he isn’t taking tune-ups. And let’s be clear: there isn’t anything wrong with tune-ups. De La Hoya fought Darryl Tyson, and Mayweather fought Sharmba Mitchell. Crawford has been different. He beat Ricky Burns for his first world title in 2014 at lightweight when the Englishman had gone 22 straight fights without a loss. After beating Ray Beltran, he moved up to 140 pounds and fought for a title immediately, stopping Thomas Dulorme in six rounds.

When you look at it from this perspective, it lends credence to the notion that Crawford could one day surpass the all-time legend and Hall of Famer Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the greatest fighter of the 21st century. Don’t get me wrong, Naoya Inoue and Oleksandr Usyk are making excellent cases for themselves, but Crawford is in a league of his own right now. Believe it or not, he doesn’t even need to fight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, which could be a bridge too far at 168 pounds.
