Terence Crawford led furious reaction as Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach drew up controversy.

Gervonta Davis was a big favourite to defeat former amateur rival Lamont Roach in their lightweight world title clash in Brooklyn.

But the boxing superstar was left stunned, having dropped to a knee in the ninth round of the clash, a moment which was incredibly not scored a knockdown by the referee.

And given the margins on the scorecards were so fine, a draw was awarded by the judges sparing Davis’ blushes after a tough night.

The boxing world whipped up a storm as to how the knockdown wasn’t awarded, which could have handed Roach the point he needed in a 10-8 round to claim unlikely victory.

A three-division champion, Davis (30-0) has held a version of the WBA title since 2019. “Tank” has won all but two fights via knockout, always packing a punch and leaving a mark on his opponents. He hopes the fight against Roach ends the same way.

Earlier today, 25-year-old undefeated lightweight Keyshawn Davis took to Instagram to reveal insights into his post-fight conversations with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather. “It’s crazy, Floyd calls me after every fight just to discuss my performance. Not only is he the GOAT, but he’s also a real mentor,” Davis wrote while sharing a screenshot of his FaceTime conversation with ‘Money.’ Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, who once fought under Mayweather’s promotional banner, departed from the promotion in May 2022, citing a desire to promote his own fights. However, tensions between them had been apparent for some time, as the two frequently clashed on and off social media.

In more recent times, the Davis duo has been clashing on social media. Before Keyshawn’s fight earlier this week, the 25-year-old was taking shots at ‘Tank,’ with the latter firing back on X. So, given their newfound animosity against each other, people started speculating a fight could be on the horizon.

In what appears to be an attempt to fan the flames, Keyshawn Davis shared details about his phone call with Mayweather. It’s also worth mentioning that the legendary boxer was previously pushing for a fight between ‘Tank’ and WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, but that never ended up happening.

Another user felt Floyd Mayweather may have pushed Keyshawn to start the feud with ‘Tank.’ “Now we know why you beefing wit tank 😂,” the user commented. Despite their beef, it’s unclear whether this will spill over into a full-blown fight.

Meanwhile, this user thought Keyshawn’s post about Mayweather was genuine. “I can definitely tell he been mentoring you with your defense in the fight. You barely got touched and counter punches were 🔒,” the user wrote. However, why would a rising boxer wait so long to announce his affiliation with one of boxing’s biggest stars when he could have done it earlier to attract more attention?

“I got Shakur boxing the s**t out of Zepeda. Fuck around and get a unanimous decision. He can’t match Shakur.”

In the most recent development, Shakur took to social media to claim Zepeda didn’t want the fight and is now ‘close’ to agreeing a deal to face former super-featherweight world champion Joe Cordina next.

A Gervonta Davis versus Shakur Stevenson fight continues to elude fans.

The match-up pits two contrasting styles against one another, with ‘Tank’s raw power and calculated punishment facing its toughest test against the slick movement and elite defence of Stevenson.

Only two men have made it the distance with Davis, his other 28 fights ending by knockout, more often than not quite sensationally. On the other end of the scale, Shakur has just a 45% stoppage ratio but is notoriously hard to land on.

Now both world champions at lightweight, the fight looked to be on the table when Davis’ negotiations with Vasiliy Lomachenko collapsed. However, it looks set to marinate for a while longer with both men recently confirming that a report stating there were talks for a November bout are false.

It will, fans hope, happen one day and predictions continue to roll in. Speaking to Fight Hub TV, two-weight world champion Danny Garcia backed ‘Tank’ Davis should the fight ever materialise.

“That’s a great fight. I like Tank. I think Tank is too strong at that weight for anybody, but skill-for-skill I think it’s a great fight.”

An all-American, undefeated unification clash not being made with urgency is what many see wrong with the sport, but there’s always hope for 2025.

In the meantime, Stevenson may be considering facing number one challenger William Zepeda towards the end of the year. ‘Tank’s potential rematch with Isaac Cruz has now lost its appeal given the latter recently lost his super-lightweight world title to Jose Valenzuela.

Canelo Alvarez is fielding tons of questions about his career, so it’s interesting to hear his take on two fighters who aren’t anywhere near his division.

During an interview on Sway’s Universe, Alvarez was asked who he would bet on if Gervonta Davis fights Shakur Stevenson. Alvarez paid both fighters respect but said, “I put my money on Gervonta Davis.”

Davis-Stevenson is among the most highly anticipated fights in the lower weight classes.

Based on what we’ve seen from both fighters, Davis’ wins have looked more impressive from an excitement standpoint. Tank has routinely gained is opponent’s timing, assessed their power and threat potential before closing in and smashing through them. Stevenson has utilized his blazing speed, impeccable defense, and punching accuracy to pick opponents apart.

The major question is: Can Stevenson outbox Tank for 12 rounds without the latter catching up to him and testing the former’s chin and resilience? It’s a fascinating potential fight.

While the two sides have yet to agree, it feels like an inevitable clash between two of the best fighters in the world who hold half of the world titles at lightweight. Stevenson is currently a free agent exploring his promotional options. Davis is inked with Premier Boxing Champions, and fights are streaming on Amazon Prime. In the PBC sense, Canelo and Gervonta are stablemates.

Davis was believed to be on track to face Vasyl Lomachenko in the fourth quarter of 2024, but the Ukrainian legend and IBF lightweight champion has elected to sit out the remainder of the year. Davis will now need an opponent for the date reserved for Lomachenko. Theoretically, that could be Stevenson.

However, a deal would need to be struck between Stevenson and PBC to make that fight happen. This scenario isn’t out of the realm of possibility, considering it’s one of the biggest money fights in the sport. Davis has other options. He could turn to WBO champion Denys Berinchyk.

The undefeated Ukrainian is coming off an upset win over Emmanuel Navarrete in May. While the fight wasn’t considered a barnburner, Berinchyk would seemingly be an option for Davis. Stevenson might end up taking on undefeated Golden Boy fighter William Zepeda. Although, its worth noting Stevenson and Lomachenko had to be separated at the Terence Crawford-Israil Madrimov fight in Los Angeles on Aug. , suggesting those two may be interested in engaging in a long overdue battle.

There have been talks, but nothing has been made official, as Stevenson could potentially work with Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom, or PBC, or even remain independent and sign a deal with Turkii Alalshikh to be a part of the Riyadh Season movement.

We’ll likely find out the next move for both men soon. Canelo’s next fight is on Sept. 14, when he defends his super middleweight title against Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas.
