Anthony Joshua backed to land surprise world title shot in undisputed ‘tournament’ after Oleksandr Usyk order

Anthony Joshua has been backed to land a shot at the WBO world title if Oleksandr Usyk vacates.

That is according to talkSPORT pundit Spencer Oliver, who believes he has cracked the ever-complex heavyweight conundrum.

Oleksandr Usyk is keen to fight for the undisputed crown against Daniel Dubois with preliminary talks underway for a summer bout.

But a stumbling block was produced by the WBO who subsequently ordered Usyk to defend his title against Joseph Parker

He could be forced to vacate if he chooses to face Dubois, or could look to file for an exception with the WBO to grant all four belts being on the line.

If he chooses to face Dubois and vacate the WBO strap, a small possibility could see Parker immediately upgraded or thrust into a shot at the belt.

And Oliver discussed what he believes will unfold, with Joshua to be first in line for a shot at Parker if the situation resolves itself.

He said on the latest episode of talkBOXING: “Yeah I am across it, I think Oleksandr Usyk is looking for another dance partner.

“Who I believe will be Daniel Dubois. I think that fight happens next even though the WBO will want him to fight someone new.

“He will be a full world champion and then Anthony Joshua boxes him for that WBO title.

“Then the winners box each other for the undisputed titles, that is the route and road map I see.”

When asked if Joshua was a credible challenger for a world title despite his defeat to Dubois, Adam Smith insisted it was a valid option.

He added: “Of course, he’s reigned as a two-time heavyweight champion and a poster boy for boxing for many years.

“He’s lost to Dubois who was in great form and brilliant. AJ is still a massive name in boxing.

“Of course he deserves it, under Ben Davison he was looking good, He got beaten up, but he can recover from that, he did against Andy Ruiz.

“The Fury fight is the big fight for Joshua, but I still think that can too so I worry before that.

“But does AJ deserve a chance to fight for a world title again? 100 per cent.”

Joshua was on a positive run beating Francis Ngannou and Otto Wallin before losing to Dubois.

The British powerhouse is also still a commercial juggernaut, and was eyeing the huge fight with Fury this year.

But Fury chose to retire from the sport and his future remains uncertain having yet to pencil in his next meeting.

His promoter Eddie Hearn suggested it will still be another month or two before he can return to a full training camp, which could see him fight just once this year.

Parker vs Bakole – R1 Joseph Parker Brutally going harder on Martin Bakole LIVE RESULTS

An almost comically static start from Bakole who isn’t on his toes and is just standing waiting for Parker to come forward.

The Kiwi isn’t quite prepared to do that in this first round and is content to fire out a couple of jabs.

Not much action or landing so far as the two massive fighters size each other up.

Parker definitely looks better, though, as he fires off a decent one-two in the final minute of the round.

Bakole finally makes his move inside the final 20 seconds and lands a massive shot to end the round!

Well, that certainly will have woken Parker up!

Here they come

Martin Bakole is first to the ring as he arrives draped in the Congolese flag and a plain black t-shirt.

Then comes Joseph Parker – at the heaviest weight of his career – in a red gown with a glittery hoodie.

This is an absolutely top quality heavyweight fight and, remember, an eliminator for the WBO title, currently held by Oleksandr Usyk.

Joseph Parker spoke in the ring and pleaded his case for a world title next.

He was meant to fight Daniel Dubois for the IBF title tonight and he is still the WBO mandatory challenger for Oleksandr Usyk.

As one of the most in-form heavyweights in boxing, he thoroughly deserves a title shot next.

Parker said: “Martin Bakole thanks for accepting the challenge and flying all the way here.

“I listened, stayed calm, structured composed and got the victory.

“I want to fight for the world title next.

“We’ve got Frank [Warren] here… I want a world title next.

“When I came back to the corner, Andy [Lee] gave me instructions to be patient, when he comes in throw the overhand right.”

Asked if he would prefer to fight Usyk or Dubois, Parker said: “I will fight anyone and everyone.”

CURRENT LIVE RESULTS: Joseph Parker vs Martin Bakole Huge fight ON NOW as Parker faces tricky Dubois replacement – updates

JOSEPH PARKER is facing Martin Bakole RIGHT NOW in a huge heavyweight bout in Saudi Arabia!

Joseph Parker was due to face Daniel Dubois for DDD’s IBF world title, but the British champion withdrew from the fight on Thursday due to illness.

In stepped Bakole in his place, who will be looking to seize his opportunity on tonight’s blockbuster Artur Beterbiv vs Dmitry Bivol card in Riyadh.

The pair will battle for Parker’s WBO interim world title, with the winner of the bout becoming the WBO mandatory challenger for Oleksandr Usyk, who holds the full title.

Quick night’s work

Well that didn’t last long at all – 5mins and 17 seconds in total.

Should various reports on the internet be believed then Bakole earned around $600,000 for his short trip to Saudi Arabia.

He took a massive shot but it was a no-lose situation for the Congolese star.

Nice work if you can get it.

Big shot rocks Bakole

It was a massive overhand right that sent Bakole tumbling.

It landed on the top of his big thick head and while Bakole didn’t tumble straight to the floor, his legs went like jelly and he went stumbling backwards.

Dubois vs Parker Riyadh 2025: Daniel Dubois’ IBF title defence against Parker in jeopardy

Heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois’ IBF world title defence against Joseph Parker on Saturday is likely not to hold after Dubois reportedly fell sick in Riyadh.

Dubois is currently under medical evaluation and did not attend Thursday’s press conference in Saudi Arabia, raising concerns about his availability for the fight.

“Unfortunately, at this moment in time, Daniel is being evaluated by the doctor,” his promoter Frank Warren said. “When we have more news, we will share it with you and update you.”

A replacement opponent is reportedly being considered should the 27-year-old Dubois be deemed unfit to fight, but Parker, 33, remains on the card regardless of the final decision.

“If he is ill, I hope he gets better soon,” Parker said. “I am looking forward to Saturday and having a great show. I’ve put in all the hard work with my team in Ireland and here in Riyadh. I am ready to go.”

Parker attended the press conference alongside his manager, Spencer Brown, who confirmed that discussions are ongoing about the fight’s status.

“Joe will be there on Saturday, whatever happens, and he’s ready to win. Joe doesn’t care who he fights,” Brown added.

Dubois won the interim IBF heavyweight title by defeating Filip Hrgovic and was later elevated to world champion after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the belt. He successfully defended his title with a fifth-round stoppage victory over Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium in September.

Parker previously held the WBO heavyweight title between 2015 and 2017.

Their bout was set to serve as the co-main event to the undisputed light-heavyweight showdown between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

Also on the card, Briton Hamzah Sheeraz will challenge Carlos Adames for the WBC middleweight title.

I want to avenge my losses: Joseph Parker to rematch Anthony Joshua if he beats Daniel Dubois?

Joseph Parker still has goals. He wants “to be champion of the world, to be unified champion of the world and to avenge the losses that I’ve had. And then retire”.

That effort all starts for him when he challenges Daniel Dubois for the IBF heavyweight world title, live on Sky Sports Box Office, when the New Zealander bids to become a two-time heavyweight world champion on Saturday’s Riyadh Season event.

Seeking to avenge losses would lead him to a rematch with Anthony Joshua, who beat Parker in 2018 to pick up the WBO title the New Zealander then held.

But, if Parker does beat Dubois – a tough assignment in itself – AJ though might not get an immediate shot at that IBF belt.

Parker could take on Usyk for the undisputed crown, or rematch Dubois immediately.

“It’s not locked in as a rematch but it’s a possibility that it could happen,” Parker said.

“Fight Daniel, win, not sure if there’s a rematch or if I can fight Usyk or whatever else they have planned for me. It’s just to fight Daniel and see what’s next.

Parker is convinced he will beat Dubois because “I feel like we know what he’s going to do”.

He explained: “It’s not like a surprise, you know what he’s going to do – he’s going to come forward and throw shots.

“I do have to be on point. I have to be a lot better than I was with [Zhilei] Zhang and [Deontay] Wilder. I feel like I have to because of the pressure he comes with and also the combinations that he throws. He’s a powerhouse. So I have to be a lot better and a lot more on my game.

“We’ve come with a good plan to be able to get out of the position of what he’s going to bring and to counter back with what we’re going to bring.”

The Winner Is ‘Made’ Usyk Finally Predicts Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker And Says Fight Against The Winner Is ‘Made’

Oleksandr Usyk is waiting on the result of Daniel Dubois versus Joseph Parker as keenly as anyone.

Oleksandr Usyk fought twice in 2024, with the first contest in May crowning him the first man to become undisputed heavyweight champion in over two decades. The 12-round battle with Brit Tyson Fury was a close one that he edged on points, only to do the same in December in the rematch, though this time for the unified titles after dropping the IBF belt

He has vowed to continue fighting on this year and has confirmed that he is keen to take on the winner of the fight between two most in-form men in the division.

Parker is a former WBO champion who has beaten both Zhilei Zhang and Deontay Wilder in his last two contests. Dubois is also on a good run that has seen him stop Jarrell Miller, Fillip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua in his last three outings, picking up the vacant IBF strap on the way.

Before all that, the Brit had a title tilt against Usyk in 2023. A shot of his had the Ukrainian down, but it was ruled a low blow and Usyk rallied to eventually stop Dubois in the 9th round.

Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, Usyk revealed his analysis on the fight, edging towards the champion and his former opponent, Dubois.

“52 per cent for Daniel and 48 per cent for Parker that is what my team have predicted.”

Dubois has long called for a rematch to avenge what he feels was an unfair result two years ago. Parker will, once again, be looking to spoil the party.

Whoever wins, Usyk is expected to face them later this year for the chance to become a two-time heavyweight champion, saying, “we wait for a fight on February 22 between Daniel and Joseph. Whoever wins this fight between Daniel and Joseph, I have already made the fight.”

Anthony Joshua delivered his verdict, ‘I Have Fought Daniel Dubois & Joseph Parker – Here’s Who Wins Fight’

Anthony Joshua has delivered his verdict on what he thinks the outcome of Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker will be later this month. Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, has shared the ring with both men who are due to meet in a title bout on the 22nd of February

AJ beat Parker in 2018, delivering the New Zealander the first loss of his professional career, losing his WBO title in the process. Dubois and Joshua then squared off last September, with Dynamite knocking AJ down four times before he eventually knocked him out for good in the fifth round.

However, it’s not Dubois that Joshua is tipping for victory.

In a post on Turki Alalshikh’s X account, Joshua backed Parker to prevail later this month, as the 33-year-old bids to become a two-time world heavyweight champion.

Parker has seen a resurgence under new trainer Andy Lee in the past 18 months with wins over Simon Kean, Deontay Wilder, and Zhilei Zhang. Much like Parker, however, Dubois himself has been on a great run of late. Dynamite has won all three of his fights since a controversial loss to Oleksandr Usyk in August 2023, with wins against Joshua, Filip Hrgovic, and Jarrell Miller.

As well as Joshua, former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury also believes Parker will stand victorious against Dubois, but that should come as no surprise given that they are close friends.

Joe Joyce Discusses Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker

The Juggernaut has beaten both fighters

Joe Joyce is the only boxer to have beaten both Parker and Dubois, and while speaking about the upcoming fight himself, he told Fight Hub TV: “Parker is very tricky, he’s hungry, he’s still young, and he’s getting stronger as well. He looks strong, he’s had a great camp, he’s tricky. Dubois hits hard and they both have good momentum. It’s a tough fight for both and may the best man win.”

When pressed for a prediction, he said: “Thinking about it, I was going to say methods of victory. Parker is more likely to go points. Dubois is more likely to finish by knockout.”

Derek chisora

The winner of the bout will put themselves in a good position for a unification match-up against Usyk. Dubois has already confronted the Ukrainian in the ring after his victory over Tyson Fury in December 2024. The 27-year-old Brit grabbed a microphone and said: “I want my revenge, Usyk.”

I’ m ready again, I’ve fought Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder but ‘The Juggernaut’ gave me my toughest fight

Joseph Parker has shared the ring with a who’s who of great heavyweights from his generation – but one stood out above the rest.

The Kiwi burst onto the scene by beating Andy Ruiz Jr for the WBO heavyweight title in 2016.

He held onto the red and gold strap for just under two years before he ran into Anthony Joshua in a WBA, WBO and IBF unification clash at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Despite a spirited performance, Parker was outboxed by AJ over the distance and lost via unanimous decision.

In the years that followed, Parker traded wins and losses with Britain’s best, beating Derek Chisora (twice) and losing to Dillian Whyte and Joe ‘The Juggernaut’ Joyce. His defeat at the hands of the latter marked his first, and to date only, knockout loss of his 38-fight career (35-3),

So it is perhaps no surprise that Parker named Joyce as his toughest opponent.

Speaking about the fight during an interview on Carl Froch’s YouTube channel, he said: “It wasn’t a great night for me, it was tough.

“Leading into the fight I got real sick. Very bad. I shouldn’t have fought.

“He’s not the fastest and doesn’t move the quickest. [I lost because of] the pressure and I wasn’t healthy. It was tough.”

Joyce wore Parker down over 11 rounds before uncorking a massive left hook to close the show.

It was a huge setback for the Auckland puncher, who was riding a six-fight winning streak at the time.

However, Parker has since revived his career with a pair of notable wins over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang, which have catapulted him into an IBF heavyweight title fight with Daniel Dubois on February 22.

Parker won the WBO ‘interim’ belt by beating Zhang, although he will be stripped of that title when the opening bell sounds for his next outing, per the major sanctioning body’s rules.

“When you have an interim champion, we don’t unify an interim champion with a legitimate champion from another organization, that is our policy,” the newly appointed WBO president Gustavo Olivieri told talkSPORT.com last month.

“So what we’ve done in this case is we’ve advised Queensberry Promotions, that we have no objection to Parker fighting for the IBF title.

“None at all. It is a great fight. We have a great relationship with the IBF, I’m very close to its president Darryl Peoples.

Joseph parker,Anthony Joshua

“But since we have this policy, he [Parker] would have to relinquish the title.

“But once the bell rings, signifying the commencement of the fight, the title should be declared vacant automatically.”

“My Money’s On Him” Derek Chisora Makes His Final Prediction For Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker: “My Money’s On Him”

Derek Chisora has tasted the punches of Joseph Parker and has now made a prediction ahead of his fight with Daniel Dubois.

‘Del Boy’ is just weeks away from his 49th fight, and it comes against former Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua opponent, Otto Wallin. Back in 2021, the British heavyweight veteran fought Parker twice

On their first meeting in May, Chisora lost by split decision after a close and entertaining battle across 12 rounds in which he scored a knockdown in the first round. Then, in September that year, the pair went at it again and this time Parker won wider, knocking down Chisora three times and taking a unanimous decision.

Since then Parker, a former WBO champion who lost his title to Anthony Joshua in 2018, has continued to climb up the ranks despite losing to Joe Joyce in 2022. He has beaten the likes of Jack Massey, Simon Kean, Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang to set up this IBF world title shot against current ruler Dubois.

Dubois has also put together a super run of wins – his last three victories have all come by way of stoppage over Jarrell Miller, Fillip Hrgovic and Joshua.

The pair square off on February 22 and Chisora has told Seconds Out he expects the younger man to win.

“My money is on Daniel. I believe he has got everything to stop Joseph Parker because he’s strong and he wants it more. He’s on a roll right now. There is nothing that can stop him right now.”

The winner of this fight will be well-placed to challenge unified heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed fight sometime later this year.

‘Dr Sleep’ : I got dropped by Anthony Joshua and fought Joseph Parker but nobody hit me harder than ‘Dr Sleep’

Zhilei Zhang has gone toe-to-toe with some massive punchers – but one stands out above the rest.

‘Big Bang’ returns to action on February 22 in a WBC interim heavyweight title fight against Agit Kabayel on the Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol II undercard in Saudi Arabia.

It comes eight months after he flattened a timid Deontay Wilder in a low-output affair.

Wilder landed just 16 of his 95 punches during the contest and appeared hesitant to let his hands go throughout.

The former WBC heavyweight spent the majority of the fight with his back against the ropes and didn’t open up until the ill-fated fifth stanza where he was stunned and then knocked out by two punishing lead hooks.

Despite this, Zhang revealed to talkSPORT.com that nobody has hit him harder than ‘Dr Sleep’.

“Right now it is Deontay Wilder,” he said during an exclusive interview.

“He hits very hard, I got caught with a big punch in the fifth round but I managed to take it and knock him out.”

This is high praise coming from Zhang, who has fought the likes of Joseph Parker and Joe Joyce in the pros as well as Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr during his amateur days.

AJ famously dropped and defeated Zhang in the quarter-finals of the London 2012 Olympics en route to winning gold in the English capital.

Zhang would later accuse Joshua of ‘running away’ in the final stretch of the fight and is desperate to re-write the wrong in the paid ranks.

The Watford powerhouse was heavily linked to a two-fight deal with Tyson Fury in 2025.

But after suffering back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk, ‘The Gypsy King’ opted to retire from the sport for the fourth time, thus putting an all-British showdown with Joshua on ice.

Joshua’s promoters are now scrambling to find him an opponent for the summer whilst Zhang has put his name forward.

“Who knows what to make of Fury [retiring],” he added.

“If Joshua wants to fight me after the Kabayel fight then we can talk.

“He hasn’t wanted to rematch me before, let’s see about now.”
