Tyson Fury Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Daniel Dubois Will Beat Joseph Parker

Tyson Fury is looking forward to Daniel Dubois versus Joseph Parker, which is one of many great fights on the first major card of the year.

On February 22 out in Saudi Arabia, an epic night of boxing will be topped by the rematch between undisputed light heavyweight world champion Artur Beterbiev and the man he beat back in October

Dubois versus Parker sees two of the banner division’s most in form men square off to do battle for ‘DDD’s IBF world title. He won it after beating Fillip Hrgovic for the interim strap, before he was then elevated to full champion and defended it with a knockout win over Anthony Joshua in September 2024.

Parker’s last two outings have been just as impressive. He beat Deontay Wilder on points after nullifying the American’s ability to land big punches over 12 rounds. He then took on Zhilei Zhang in June and despite being put down, saw out another solid points win.

Fury and Parker have long been friends and gym mates so it’s no surprise that when speaking to TNT Sports Boxing, former WBC ruler Fury picked the New Zealander to beat his fellow Brit.

“I’ve got to go with my old pal Joseph Parker.”

Whoever wins this fight will be well-placed to square up with Oleksandr Usyk for an undisputed fight later down the line.

Dubois has already shared the ring with the great Ukrainian, ultimately being knocked out in the 9th round despite scoring a controversial knockdown of his own that was ruled to be a low blow.

“He Gasses Out”: Carl Froch Predicts Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker Heavyweight Title Fight: “He Gasses Out”

Daniel Dubois versus Joseph Parker is just a month away and Carl Froch has made his prediction for the fight.

Daniel Dubois is on a superb run that has seen him stop Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgvic and Anthony Joshua in his last three fights. In that time he became the IBF world champion and then defended his belt with great displays

As Joshua opted not to take an immediate rematch, Dubois has moved on to this fight with Parker, who is on a good run himself. He has beaten Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang in his last two outings but faces a whole different challenge in the younger, hungrier Dubois.

Speaking on Froch on Fighting, ‘The Cobra’ had plenty of praise for Parker.

“They’re good wins, that’s good form. It looks like he’s getting a second wind in his career. If Dubois can beat Parker after the wipeout job against ‘AJ’, he really has established himself as a bonafide world champion. Parker has bags of experience, he’s boxing and moving well, super fit and can move around, and he can punch a bit, and he’s tough. It’s a tough fight for both guys.”

He was then pushed for a prediction and went for ‘DDD’ by stoppage.

“I think you have to say that Daniel Dubois is a favourite. He’s such a big puncher. He does gas out, and Parker is fit and strong, but he doesn’t punch with the big boys. Dubois has the confidence of the ‘AJ’ win, if he puts the pressure on Parker and starts closing in then lands that right hand, and that right hand is crushing, the big guy beats the little guy. He probably gets him out of there.”

Dubois will be hoping to repeat his destructive ‘AJ’ display when he faces Parker, and the prize could well be a second shot at Oleksandr Usyk who beat him in August 2023, but this time for undisputed honours

Zhang Or Joshua: Joseph Parker Has No Doubt On His Toughest Opponent And It’s Not Wilder, Zhang Or Joshua

Joseph Parker has mixed it with the elite in the heavyweight division.

Joseph Parker first became WBO heavyweight champion back in 2016 with a victory over Andy Ruiz, and has remained near the top of the division for nearly a decade

He lost his title to Anthony Joshua in 2018, but has had a career resurgence in the past 12 months, defeating Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang to earn himself another crack at world honours.

That comes in February, when he challenges Daniel Dubois for his IBF heavyweight title in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on the same card as Artur Beterbiev and Dmity Bivol‘s rematch for the undisputed light-heavyweight title.

While Parker may have shared the ring with Wilder, Zhang and Joshua, it’s another man that he deems to have been his toughest ever opponent, as he revealed to Carl Froch on his Froch On Fighting YouTube channel.

“Joe Joyce. It wasn’t a great night for me, it was tough.

“Leading into the fight I got real sick. Very bad. I shouldn’t have fought. Mentally I thought I would smash this guy. Then after one round I thought damn, it’s not going by well.

“He’s not the fastest and doesn’t move the quickest. [I lost because of] The pressure and I wasn’t healthy. It was tough.”

Parker fought Joyce in September 2022, and was knocked out in the 11th round, the only time the New Zealander has been stopped in his career.

Having got his career back on track, Parker will be hoping to become world champion again in February, and his former foe Zhang has predicted how the clash with Dubois will go.

Briton Daniel Dubois will defend his world heavyweight title against former champion Joseph Parker in Saudi Arabia on 22 February.

Daniel Dubois, 27, made a spectacular first defence of his IBF belt by beating Anthony Joshua in September.

New Zealand’s Parker, 32, held the WBO title between 2016 and 2018 before losing it to Joshua.

Also on the card in Riyadh, Artur Beterbiev will defend his undisputed light-heavyweight crown in a rematch with fellow Russian Dmitry Bivol.

Undefeated Londoner Hamzah Sheeraz will challenge for his maiden world title against WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames, while British light-heavyweights Joshua Buatsi and Callum Smith will meet for Buatsi’s WBO interim title.

Shakur Stevenson will put his WBC lightweight belt on the line against Floyd Schofield and Zhilei Zhang faces Agit Kabayel for the interim WBC heavyweight title to complete the blockbuster card.

Dubois captured the interim title with an impressive win over Filip Hrgovic last year and was elevated to world champion when Oleksandr Usyk vacated the belt.

The Londoner legitimised himself as a world champion when he upset the odds by dismantling two-time champion Joshua inside five rounds at Wembley Stadium.

Parker earns a title shot after a four-fight winning streak, including impressive wins over Deontay Wilder and Zhang in his past two fights.

In October, Beterbiev defeated Bivol by majority decision to become the first undisputed light-heavyweight champion since 2002.

Many ringside observers felt Bivol, who suffered a first career defeat, should have been awarded the decision.

Former super-middleweight world champion Smith was stopped by Beterbiev for the unified light-heavyweight titles in January but returned to winning ways against Carlos Galvan on Saturday to earn a shot against the undefeated Buatsi, who claimed the WBO interim title on the Joshua-Dubois undercard.

Ilford-born Sheeraz, 25, has won all 21 pro bouts with 17 stoppages. He withdrew from an ordered fight against WBO champion Janibek Alimkhanuly to take on Dominican Adames, who has lost once in 25 bouts.

Analysis – Dubois on a high but Parker a live challenger

Dubois is still riding the high of his destructive win over Joshua. He has become a confident, fearless puncher – nothing like the fighter who lost to Joe Joyce in 2020 – and will fancy his chances to finish Parker inside the distance.

If he does that, he sets up a lucrative rematch with Joshua or an undisputed contest against the winner of December’s bout between fellow champion Usyk and Tyson Fury.

But make no mistake, Dubois is up against a live opponent. Parker has been reinvigorated by his link-up with trainer Andy Lee and is fully deserving of another crack at world honours.

Saudi Arabia’s ever-growing influence on boxing is once again apparent with a stacked card, including a second bout between two of the best pound-for-pound stars in Beterbiev and Bivol. The inclusion of a domestic dust-up between Buatsi and Smith was a welcome surprise.

Daniel Dubois

The event could be a breakout night for Sheeraz, who has all the tools to become a global boxing superstar. After a low-key amateur career, he learned his trade on the professional scene and relocated to the United States.

He is an articulate and respectful character who has the opportunity to make all that hard work and sacrifice pay off.
