The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is intensifying its scrutiny of SoLo Funds, a lending startup backed by tennis star Serena Williams. The CFPB has introduced a proposed rule that would restrict the way SoLo charges its customers.

This action follows a lawsuit filed by the regulator earlier this year, alleging deceptive lending practices by SoLo Funds. The startup, which provides peer-to-peer lending through a pay-what-you-like model, has been accused of misleading borrowers with its advertising claims of “zero-interest loans or 0% APR.” The CFPB’s proposed rule aims to ensure transparency and fair pricing in the lending market.

SoLo Funds, founded in 2018 by Rodney Williams and Travis Holoway, offers individuals access to capital through its peer-to-peer lending platform. Unlike traditional lenders, SoLo allows borrowers to set their own fees, known as “tips,” when they borrow through the website.

However, according to the Financial Times, the CFPB alleges that these tips often exceed federal or state caps on what lenders can charge, resulting in borrowers paying fees that far exceed existing limits.

The CFPB’s proposed rule targets the tipping model used by SoLo Funds and other FinTech companies. It requires lenders to price their loans in terms of annual interest rates rather than flat fees. Additionally, the rule mandates that fees charged by SoLo and similar platforms must not exceed federal or state caps.

The CFPB aims to promote fair competition and prevent the exploitation of borrowers through excessive fees.

PYMNTS reported in May that SoLo Funds expressed surprise and disappointment at the CFPB’s lawsuit, stating that the company has been working with the regulator for the past 18 months to establish a regulatory framework.

CEO and Co-founder Travis Holoway emphasized that SoLo has diligently followed the rules and sought collaboration with regulators.

The startup believes its model provides affordable access to credit for Americans and is in compliance with federal and state lending laws.

Rafael Nadal delivered one of his most complete performances of the 2024 season on Thursday at the Nordea Open.

The former No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings defeated fifth seed Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4 in Bastad to reach his second ATP Tour quarter-final of the season. After clinching the only break of a tight first set, Nadal rallied from 1-4 down in the second to pull through a tough second-round test at the clay ATP 250.

“Great feelings. I’ve been a while without playing on the Tour, since Roland Garros. To have the chance to compete well against a great player like Cameron is a great feeling,” said Nadal in his on-court interview. “I think I played in some moments good tennis, in some moments I need to play a little bit more aggressive, but that is part of the journey today.

Not very bad news: Rafael Nadal allays fears of prolonged absence despite missing Australian Open with injury - India Today

“I haven’t been competing very often, so matches and victories like today help. To be in rhythm the whole match and hold the pressure on the opponent the whole match, that’s something that I need to improve, because I didn’t play enough.”

Although the Spaniard had shown glimpses of his imperious best during his previous 13 tour-level matches in 2024, Thursday’s showing against fellow Norrie lefty was arguably his most consistent. A rock-solid Nadal wore down the Briton, himself one of the hardest grinders on Tour, to complete a one-hour, 43-minute triumph.

Nadal took control after a tight opening few games by reeling off three games in a row from 2-3. He fended off two break points at 5-4 before holding serve to clinch a high-quality first set, and then recovered from a minor lapse in his level early in the second in style. Nadal won 14 points in a row from 1-4, 0/15, and ultimately won the final five games of the match to improve his Lexus ATP Head2Head series lead against Norrie to 5-1.

“I feel that in some way at the beginning of the match he was a little bit better than me, because he was winning his serve quite easy, and my serve I was suffering a little bit more,” said Nadal. “But I was the player who got the break. Then in the beginning of the second set, I was playing better than him. I had break points and was more in control, but I played a bad game and he played a good game and he broke me.

“So I said to myself, ‘OK, it’s 1-4, but it could be 4-1 for me too, so I just need to keep doing the things that I am doing’. I probably played a little bit more aggressive with my backhand, which I think at the end of the match worked a little bit better. That makes the difference. With the forehand I am quite happy, and with the serve too.”

Nadal struck the ball cleanly off both wings throughout the match and did not hold back in chasing balls into either corner of the court. He won 74 per cent (32/43) of points behind his first delivery, according to Infosys ATP Stats, a solid foundation that allowed him to win plenty of easy points on serve with some trademark second-strike winners.

The only physical concern for the 38-year-old Nadal came when he fell over his left foot while trying to slide for a ball at 40/Ad in the first game of the second set. He called the physio to the court at the end of the game to tidy up bleeding on his leg and elbow.

Now 9-5 for the season, Nadal will take on fourth seed Mariano Navone in the quarter-finals as he looks to add another Bastad title to the one he won on his previous appearance there in 2005. Navone earlier defeated Sumit Nagal 6-4, 6-2.

“He’s a player that is playing so well this year, winning a lot of matches, especially on clay,” said Nadal of the World No. 36 Navone. “It is the quarter-finals of an historic event on the Tour like Bastad. You can’t expect an easy opponent. I am just focused on keeping improving every single day, trying to play every day. I know it is going to be a tough one, but I really hope to play good tennis and give myself chances.”

Qualifier Timofey Skatov also booked his last-eight spot on Thursday in Bastad. The Kazakhstani upset third seed Tallon Griekspoor 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach his maiden ATP Tour quarter-final. The 23-year-old Skatov, who is No. 223 in the PIF ATP Rankings, will take on seventh seed Nuno Borges next after the Portuguese beat his #NextGenATP countryman Henrique Rocha 1-6, 6-4, 6-0.

Williams, who won 23 Grand Slam titles during her illustrious tennis career, took that as a reason to take her tennis game to an even higher level.

“So when he ghosted me, I used that as an opportunity to say, ‘He’s gonna regret this for the rest of his life,’” Williams said. “That was just the motivation I needed, just the excuse I used to go the extra mile. I’m gonna make sure that this person never forgets me. I’m gonna make sure that this person sees me everywhere for the rest of their life.”

Novak Djokovic has been left out of Team Europe’s line-up for the Laver Cup.

Novak Djokovic will be one of several big names absent from this year’s Laver Cup after he was left out of the Team Europe squad. The veteran Serb is enduring a tricky spell at the moment, having failed to win a title of any kind since his triumph at the ATP Finals in November.

Djokovic reached his first Grand Slam final of 2024 at Wimbledon but was outplayed by Carlos Alcaraz, who breezed to victory in straight sets. He is also no longer the world’s top-ranked player, with Jannik Sinner at the summit ahead of Djokovic and Alcaraz.

Novak Djokovic To Play For Record 25th Major Title In Wimbledon Rematch Against Carlos Alcaraz

It has now been confirmed that Djokovic will play no part at the Laver Cup after being left out of Bjorn Borg’s six-man squad, although it is not clear why. At 37 years of age, the competition may not be a priority for him at this late stage of his career.

On Wednesday, it was announced by Team Europe that Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas would be the final two players to complete their line-up.

They will join Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev and Rafael Nadal to form one of the strongest Laver Cup teams in history. Team World, meanwhile, will be represented by Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton with the final two places yet to be announced.

Djokovic will not be the only high-profile absentee from the Laver Cup, with Andy Murray and Andrey Rublev also being left out by Team Europe. Sinner is another player who will not feature despite pulling away from Djokovic at the top of the world rankings.

His run to the Wimbledon final came just weeks after he underwent knee surgery after suffering a meniscus tear at the French Open. Speaking after his defeat to Alcaraz, Djokovic admitted that he does not yet feel ready to mix it with the sport’s brightest talents.

“Being able to reach the final at Wimbledon is a great confidence boost, but I feel that I am not at the level needed to beat the best in the world,” he said.

“To have a chance to beat Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who are the best this year by far, in the final stages of a Slam or at the Olympics I will have to play much better. I will work. We are not talking about something I have never faced before. In adversity, I usually learn lessons and become stronger.”

Djokovic will return to action at the Olympics later this month, where he will represent Serbia in the singles event alongside Dusan Lajovic.

“I hope to have the opportunity to fight for a medal for my country,” he added. “It will be on a completely different surface, returning to the place where I got injured a few weeks ago. We will see how I feel physically and mentally.

“I hope I can find my best tennis, because I will need everything I have and more to reach the final of the Olympic Games. As for returning to Wimbledon, I would definitely like that. I don’t think this is my last Wimbledon for a moment. I really want to play again, I have no limits in my mind.”

Alexis Ohanian is opening up about his health and a recent diagnosis.

The 41-year-old entrepreneur husband of Serena Williams took to X (formerly Twitter) to share that after some testing, he learned that he has Lyme disease.

“Doing a full battery of health scans, tests, etc, and found out I have lyme disease. Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but gonna treat. Good cholesterol is too low. Bad cholesterol is just OK. Gotta work on that. On the plus-side: 822 ng/dL total + 162 ng/dL free testosterone,” he shared on his X account.

According the CDC, Lyme disease is a “bacterial infection spread to people through the bite of blacklegged ticks.”

Symptoms can include “fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system.”

Novak Djokovic has admitted he isn’t at the same level as Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner, with tennis fans and pundits questioning whether the Serbian star will ever win another grand slam. Djokovic was blown off the court by Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final on Sunday, with the Spanish whiz-kid defending his title with a 6-2 6-2 7-6 (7-4) triumph.

Alcaraz became just the sixth man in the Open era to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year, leaving Djokovic shell-shocked with his level of play. Djokovic came into the tournament just weeks after undergoing knee surgery, and produced a remarkable effort just to make the

But many are questioning whether he’ll ever get that elusive 25th grand slam title – which would see him go one clear of Margaret Court for the most in tennis history. Speaking to reporters after the crushing loss, Djokovic made the brutal admission that he isn’t at the same level as Alcaraz or Sinner (who beat him at the Australian Open) this year.

“The Olympic Games and US Open are the two big goals for the rest of the year for me really,” Djokovic said. “I’m hoping I can be at my best in those two tournaments, yeah. That’s all I can say right now.

“I mean, being able to reach the finals of Wimbledon, of course, it’s a great confidence boost. But I also feel like in a match-up today against [the] best player right now in the world for sure, I mean, other than Jannik, and both of them are the best this year by far, I feel like I’m not at that level.

“In order to really have a chance to I guess beat these guys in grand slam latter stages or Olympics, I’m going to have to play much better than I did today and feel much better than I did today. I’m going to work on it. It’s not something I haven’t experienced before ever in my life. I’ve had so many different experiences throughout my career. In the face of adversity, normally I rise and I learn and get stronger. That’s what I’m going to do.”

Djokovic resumes Grand Slam quest at Wimbledon, tricky test for Alcaraz | Reuters

Discussing the match in commentary for BBC, Nick Kyrgios and Tim Henman debated whether the 37-year-old Djokovic has enough left in the tank to win another major. “In all honesty, for 6-2 6-2 5-4 40-0, it was an annihilation,” said Henman. “Alcaraz was just absolutely phenomenal.

“The tone was set in that first service game of Djokovic, it was a 14 or 15-minute game. Alcaraz was able to get that break of serve and then he was just relentless. He gave Djokovic nothing to get his teeth stuck into. We were just waiting for the reaction, we were waiting for Djokovic to respond and that really only happened late in the third set when, in all honesty, it was just a little bit too late.”

Aussie star Kyrgios added: “Physically he is not 100% but he decided to play it and he has said time and time again how important this event is to him. Look, he just came out a little bit flat, understandably at 37, he has won this championship seven times but Alcaraz was just a bit too much today.

“He threw everything at Carlos in the third set and he just kept coming up with answers time and time again. Me and Tim have had this conversation, it is a conversation all tennis fans need to have, is there one more slam left for Djokovic on the calendar? With the come up of Alcaraz, and obviously two times in a row beating him in the final, does Djokovic have enough left in the tank to get one more slam?”
