“Ridiculous Fight” Trainer Gives Final Verdict On Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford

Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford potentially taking place later this year has started to look like a real possibility. They are two of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world at the moment, but Crawford need to move up from 154 lbs to the super middleweight division for the contest

Trainer Abel Sanchez thinks that the jump in weight will be too much for Crawford.

He expects ‘Bud’ to cleverly use his hand and feet in the earlier rounds. However, Sanchez thinks Canelo will eventually find his power shot, which will be too much to handle for Crawford and the fight won’t be competitive.

t’s a ridiculous fight. I think Crawford is too small. Canelo, in my opinion, is the face of boxing right now. Look at his resume. I think it’s a good fight for a little while. Crawford’s hand speed. Just like when Golovkin fought Kell Brook. The hand speed of Crawford. As the fight goes on, Canelo will start pounding on him. The fight ends somewhere between the ninth and the twelfth round.

Crawford has spent the majority of his career at super welterweight. He moved up to 154 lbs for his last outing against Israil Madrimov, a unanimous decision back in August 2024. Sanchez believes the speed made a difference in that contest.

He thinks the case would be similar for Crawford at 168 lbs, however, he expects that like all of Alvarez’s recent fights, it would become a spar for him by the fifth or the sixth round.

Shakur Stevenson Disagrees With Terence Crawford Over Errol Spence Jr’s Hall of Fame Case

Terence Crawford recently made a surprising comment about former opponent Errol Spence Jr’s Hall of Fame status, saying that Spence doesn’t have a Hall of Fame worthy resume.

Spence’s last fight was against Crawford in July 2023 where he suffered a ninth round TKO loss in a one-sided contest. It was the only loss of Spence’s career, who has a 28-1-0 record with 22 career knockouts.

Spence holds notable wins against Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter, Lamont Peterson, Kell Brook, Chris Algieri, and more. Crawford, however, doesn’t think it’s too impressive and Shakur Stevenson begs to differ.

Speaking to The Best Women’s Boxing Show Period, Stevenson said:

I disagree. I feel as though Errol had a great career. If it wasn’t for Bud, he would’ve been undisputed. He went out and got every belt one by one by one. I think he’s a Hall of Famer.

Spence was the unified welterweight champion at one point and had the chance to go undisputed in his fight against Crawford.

Errol Spence Jr hasn’t competed since his loss to Crawford and he’s been on hiatus now for nearly two years. And while there’s no doubt he was a pleasure to watch at his peak, Spence is now 35 and is moving past his athletic prime.

As for Terence Crawford, he is aiming high with a potential showdown against Canelo Alvarez later this year. The fight is expected to take place in September 2025 as long as Canelo defeats William Scull first.

Crawford defeated Israil Madrimov in his last fight back in August 2024.

WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson Defies Terence Crawford’s Controversial Hall of Famer Take On Errol Spence Jr.

WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and two-weight undisputed champion Terence Crawford have been long-time friends. They are often seen supporting each other in and outside the ring. However, there’s one thing the brothers from different mothers can’t seem to agree on. What? The whole Errol Spence Jr. Hall of Fame drama Crawford kicked off a few days ago!

In case you had given up boxing for the past few days, Crawford appeared in the Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru Usman & Henry Cejudo Podcast, where he made some controversial comments about his former rival ‘The Truth.’ According to ‘Bud,’ Spence Jr. doesn’t stand a chance of getting inducted in the Boxing Hall of Fame with the accolades he currently possesses.

He justified his claims by suggesting that Spence only fought in one division. While Crawford acknowledged Spence’s accomplishment of unifying the IBF, WBC, and WBA welterweight belts and a handful of fights against elites of the division, Crawford claimed it wasn’t enough to get him into the BHOF. The pair fought back on July 29, 2023, when Crawford defeated Spence in a one-sided performance to become the undisputed welterweight champion.

Regardless, this started a whirlwind of backlash on social media. Fans and experts in the boxing community joined forces to disagree with Crawford’s statement while cementing Spence’s claim to the BHOF. While Spence Jr. is yet to comment on the matter, Shakur Stevenson has shared his perspective on whether Spence Jr. deserves a spot in the BHOF.

When reminded about Crawford’s comments during a recent interview with Best Women’s Boxing Show, Stevenson said, “I disagree.” He explained his point of view, stating, “I feel as though Errol had a great career. If it wasn’t for Bud, he would’ve been undisputed. So he went and got every belt one by one by one. I think he’s a hall of famer.”

The Hall of Fame drama aside, fans may finally get to see Errol Spence Jr. back in action.

Oscar De La Hoya wants Errol Spence Jr. to fight this boxer

Oscar De La Hoya believes Vergil Ortiz Jr. is ready for a major step up in his career and wants Errol Spence Jr. to fight him. Ortiz, who remains undefeated, has proven his ability at the top level, most recently overcoming Serhii Bohachuk and Israil Madrimov. De La Hoya sees a bright future for Ortiz, stating, “There’s a lot of options out there for Vergil. I’m excited.”

One fight that De La Hoya has in mind is a Texas showdown between Ortiz and Spence, which he believes would be huge both financially and for the sport. “Imagine if we can put together a [Errol] Spence vs. Vergil fight in Dallas stadium,” De La Hoya said. While Spence has been sidelined since his loss to Terence Crawford, De La Hoya is still hopeful, adding, “That’s something to consider.”

Terence Crawford

That said, it appears absolutely no one agrees with Terence Crawford about his perspective on Errol Spence Jr.’s place in the Boxing Hall of Fame. Even his long-time friend and one of his biggest supporters, Shakur Stevenson, can’t bring himself to agree with Crawford. Do you agree with Stevenson or Crawford?

‘It’d be crazy’ – Terence Crawford offers Gervonta Davis huge fight on Canelo Alvarez card

Terence Crawford is set to compete in the biggest fight of his stellar career, as he looks towards a mega-money clash with Alvarez at September in Las Vegas.

It promises to be a huge event between arguably the two biggest boxing superstars in the US, providing Alvarez beats William Scull on May 3.

But ‘Bud’ has his own plan to make the event even bigger with the inclusion of lightweight superstar Davis.

He has called for ‘Tank’ to take on Shakur Stevenson in a huge all-American tilt, but isn’t sure he will accept.

“It should be crazy [Davis vs Stevenson], on Crawford and Canelo. That would be dope,” he said in an interview with Manouk Akopyan.

“If Tank wasn’t so cocky not to be on a Terence Crawford undercard, that would be dope.

“But I don’t see Tank taking a backseat to no fighter because he would see it as the Tank show.

“So, I don’t know, but it should be a good undercard.”

Davis has yet to entertain any official talks over a clash with Stevenson.

He will also now be locked into fights for the foreseeable future, given he is expected to next rematch Lamont Roach in June.

‘Tank’ even held talks with Jake Paul over a clash, clearly prioritising the biggest events possible.

Crawford has been a vocal supporter of Stevenson and believes he is a superstar in the making.

“Tank knows what it is up,” he said. “He knows what he is up against if he is going to fight Shakur or Keyshawn.

“He wants to fight these guys that everybody in the world know aren’t going to give him a fight.

“They aren’t mentally there, they might have a little skill here and there but mentality-wise they are not going to be able to keep it up the whole fight.

Andrew Tate Slaps Terence Crawford With 5-Word Bitter Truth Before Canelo Alvarez Showdown

2025 is shaping up to be the year that fight fans have been dreaming of. Canelo Alvarez has signed a lucrative four-fight deal with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, and first up? He’s putting all his belts on the line against IBF World Super Middleweight champion William Scull in May. But let’s be honest—that’s just the appetizer. The real main course? Once the Mexican champion handles business in his first fight, he’s set to square off against the WBA Super Welterweight champion Terence Crawford in September. Sounds simple, right? Not so fast. The biggest hurdle? The massive weight gap that Bud Crawford has to bridge.

Fans are split right down the middle. Some say Crawford has no shot against the bigger, stronger Canelo Alvarez. Others argue that Bud’s slick skills and speed could be the ultimate equalizer. And let’s not forget—sometimes, being the bigger man can work against you. If Canelo’s size slows him down, Crawford could dance circles around him. Even AI got in on the debate, with our team at EssentiallySports running a prediction to see how this fight could play out. And just when you thought the conversation couldn’t get any bigger, the controversial internet influencer Andrew Tate decided to throw his two cents into the mix.

Foolish to bet against Canelo Alvarez

Andrew Tate was spotted in New York just days ago, soaking in the Fatal Fury press conference buzz. With Ryan Garcia set to throw hands with Rolly Romero and Devin Haney gearing up for Jose Ramirez, as an avid boxing fan, Tate decided to join the press conference. But during a quick chat with FightHype.com, Tate had his sights on something bigger—Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford. If you thought he’d break it down with some deep analysis, think again. Five words; that’s all he needed. “Hard to bet against Canelo.” No hesitation, no fluff—just straight-up confidence in the 62-2 boxer. And honestly? Can you blame him?

Sure, Canelo Alvarez’s last few fights have been a snoozefest, but his record? Untouchable. He’s handed first losses to some of boxing’s brightest. Be it Caleb Plant, Gennady Golovkin, Billy Joe Saunders, Jaime Munguia, or Edgar Berlanga, they were all undefeated until they met the Guadalajara native. With a resume like that, the real question isn’t whether he can beat Crawford—it’s why he’s even taking the fight in the first place.

Simple. “You know I can see people want to see that fight too. So I think it’s starting making sense,” Canelo admitted recently. He’s not chasing the legacy—he’s giving the fans what they want. But let’s be clear; Terence Crawford isn’t on his radar just yet. His eyes are locked on May 3rd. One fight at a time.

And what about Crawford? Is he sweating bullets? Not a chance. In fact, he’s already let slip that he’s got a secret weapon in his arsenal.

Terence Crawford is shaking off the cobwebs

Last Friday, the two-division undisputed champion broke his silence. Not with words, but with fists. He hit Instagram with a video of his first workout in months. He shook off the dust after stepping away from the ring since his August 2024 clash with Israil Madrimov. But if anyone thought Bud was rusty, think again. His feet? Still as quick as a cat on a hot tin roof. His hands? Sharper than a butcher’s knife. And with a caption that read, “I hear em talking, just know that. Feels good to be back in the gym.😤,” he made one thing clear. He’s been listening to the doubters, but he’s got work to do.

Terence Crawford

A few weeks back, fans raised eyebrows when he revealed he was walking around at a career-heaviest 186 lbs. Even Mikey Garcia sounded the alarm. He warned that too much bulk could slow his fast footwork down—his biggest weapon against Canelo. But from the looks of it, Crawford seems like he knows this fight isn’t about size—it’s about everything.

So, do you agree with Andrew Tate? Is Canelo Alvarez still the safe bet? Or will Bud Crawford prove that skill beats size when the bell rings?

The biggest World Champion Brands Terence Crawford Overrated And Vows To Finish Him Inside 9 Rounds

Terence Crawford is gearing up for a huge fight against Canelo Alvarez, despite being on the radar of another world champion.

The 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska has set his sights on making more history when he challenges the unified WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight champion in September, in what will be one of the biggest fights boxing has ever seen.

Canelo has dominated the super middleweight division for almost five years, but faces a new kind of challenge in ‘Bud’ Crawford, who has cemented himself as one of the greatest fighters of his generation, and in many people’s eyes one of the best of all time.

Another fighter that has been on the radar of Crawford in recent years is WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez, who is targeting a showdown with the 37-year-old in the near future.

Speaking to TKO Boxing, Lopez spoke of a potential fight against Crawford, claiming he intends to prove to the world that ‘Bud’ is overrated.

“The only way I can show the world that I’m the best is by facing the best. My main goal depends on Canelo and Bud, as I would love to fight Crawford as well.

He is one of the top pound-for-pound fighters of this time, and I want to show the world why he’s not in my eyes.”

In a separate interview with ESNEWS, he vowed to finish Crawford by round 9.

“I’d say by 9. It’s my favourite number and a guy like him, you gotta break him down, you gotta break him down, you can’t just take him out.”

‘The Takeover’ is set to return to the ring on when he faces current WBO interim light welterweight champion Arnold Barboza Jr in Times Square in New York.

‘They robbed that boy’ – Terence Crawford led furious reaction to Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach

Terence Crawford led furious reaction as Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach drew up controversy.

Gervonta Davis was a big favourite to defeat former amateur rival Lamont Roach in their lightweight world title clash in Brooklyn.

But the boxing superstar was left stunned, having dropped to a knee in the ninth round of the clash, a moment which was incredibly not scored a knockdown by the referee.

And given the margins on the scorecards were so fine, a draw was awarded by the judges sparing Davis’ blushes after a tough night.

The boxing world whipped up a storm as to how the knockdown wasn’t awarded, which could have handed Roach the point he needed in a 10-8 round to claim unlikely victory.

Pound-for-pound warrior Crawford led those reactions, stirring the narrative with an angry rant on social media.

He first wrote: “Roach won and that should have been called a knock down. Let’s see what happens.”

When the verdict was announced, he continued: “They robbed that boy and it’s crazy.

“I never seen someone take a knee and they don’t count it as a knock down. Must of forgot the rules for tonight.”

“And it was called a knockdown and not from a punch either.”

Crawford was not the only one to vent his frustrations at the outcome of the night, which saw Davis keep his undefeated record and WBA lightweight world title.

He remains yet to be beaten despite his fortunes, and it appears a sequel is not on the table according to Davis.

But it wasn’t awarded, and Roach was left furious insisting he should it have been called despite it being appear to be led by Davis.

‘Tank’ claimed that he had grease in his eyes, which was what ultimately forced him to take the knee.

Roach was left bemused and insisted he was unfortunate to not have handed his rival his first career defeat.

“Look, I ain’t the ref. I ain’t and really if [Tank Davis] had to wipe sweat out of his eye, he had to wipe sweat out of his eye.

Terence Crawford

“But the rules do state if you voluntarily take a knee, then that’s an automatic eight-count.

“I was taking control. I think I was landing more shots, more power shots, and I thought I was doing my thing.

“So, I’m not really that frustrated but if that was counted as a knockdown — I’d have won a majority decision.”

Vergil Ortiz Jr.Unmuted silence and shows interest in fights with Terence Crawford, Sebastian Fundora after breakthrough win

The 154-pound boxing world has become unbeaten Vergil Ortiz’s oyster as he improved to 4-0 in the division last weekend following a major health scare that robbed him of two years of his career and forced him to move up in weight.

Ortiz (23-0, 21 KOs) may have seen his career-long knockout streak get snapped in his last two fights, but the pair of wins over the last six months doubled as the two best of his entire career after the native of Dallas, who resides in the town of Grand Prairie, Texas, got up from the canvas twice to edge Serhii Bohachuk in a fight of the year candidate last August before returning on Saturday to outpoint former champion Israil Madrimov in Saudi Arabia.

Considering Madrimov was fresh off of nearly upsetting pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford in their title bout last August, many in boxing wondered how the 26-year-old Ortiz would deal with the movement and awkwardness of Madrimov. But Ortiz’s close victory by unanimous decision showcased as mature and patient a boxing performance as the often all-action fighter has yet to author since turning pro in 2016.

“I’m very proud of my performance and I’m in a good place right now,” Ortiz told CBS Sports on Wednesday. “[My gameplan was] just to not overcomplicate things. There was a lot of smoke and mirrors going on [with Madrimov’s movement] and I just needed to keep it simple. That’s all it was.”

In the process, Ortiz became the overnight darling of the junior middleweight division even though he has yet to fight for a world title.

“I think that I proved that I am, if not the best, one of the best 154-pounders,” Ortiz said. “I think that I am but it’s just only a matter of time before I get the opportunities to prove that. I think I’m one of the best fighters in the game right now but I’m just looking for opportunities to show that.”

Although he is more known as a two-fisted slugger on the inside and a murderous body puncher, Ortiz proved himself as a world-class boxer by controlling Madrimov from middle distance and constantly cutting off the ring. Not only did Ortiz avoid the bait of Madrimov’s constant feinting, he poured on the offense in the second half as Madrimov slowed and the fight progressed.

Given that Crawford is likely headed toward a fall showdown with unified super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, Ortiz believes Crawford should’ve been stripped and that his fight with Madrimov contested for the vacant WBO title.

Terence Crawford

That doesn’t mean Ortiz is complaining, however. And given his prior history of being willing to fight any name put in front of him — he signed to fight former titleholder Tim Tszyu last August before Tszyu pulled out with a cut and Ortiz fought Bohachuk, instead — he’s ready for quite literally anyone that his promoter, Golden Boy, or Saudi Arabian adviser, Turki Alalshikh, can secure.

Let’s take a closer look at Ortiz’s biggest options at 154 pounds and what he thinks about a possible fight against them.

Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), age 37, WBO titleholder: “I don’t know how we would do it but if it does happen, that would be amazing. We have been calling for that fight since [they both were at welterweight] and it has been a few years now. I don’t think that fight is going to happen. I spoke to a few people and they said that it’s only a matter of time before he retires. I hope for it but I’m not very optimistic that fight happens.”

Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs), age 27, unified WBO/WBC titleholder: “I don’t think [fans would turn this fight down]. I think it’s a good fight. It’s a very fan-friendly fight, for sure. Every fight that Fundora is in is pretty much entertaining, in my opinion. I think this one is very simple [provided Fundora defeats Chordale Booker on March 22] and it’s a fight that pretty much everyone would want to see.”

Bakhram Murtazaliev (23-0, 17 KOs), age 32, IBF titleholder: “I don’t think anyone was really familiar with Murtazaliev, at least not here in the states, [until his upset knockout of Tszyu last October]. That was the first time most people had watched him and we all thought Tszyu was going to do his thing against him. I was shocked, I really was. I didn’t expect that at all and I was like, ‘Damn, this guy is good.’ Nevertheless, that just makes me even more excited because it’s just another good fighter I can test my skills against.”

Tim Tszyu (24-2, 17 KOs), age 30, former IBF titleholder: “Maybe me and Tim can run it back. Respectfully, I think he’s a great fighter. We both wanted that fight so bad. It sucks that it didn’t happen.”

Terence Crawford

Jermell Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KOs), age 34, former undisputed champion: “I think Charlo is still at 154 [despite having been idle since 2023]. I don’t have anything against him. I would love to test my skills against him, as well. I think he’s a great fighter.”

Errol Spence Jr. (28-1, 22 KOs), age 34, former unified welterweight champion: “I don’t think Errol should fight again. And I say this as a fighter who really looked up to him being in the same gym. I think he’s done. I don’t want to see him fight again, I really don’t. It’s just for his health concerns. He already had the car crash and he had a bad night against Crawford [in 2023]. If he made the money that he has needed and doesn’t need anymore to survive and can live comfortably, just retire. I really don’t want to see him fight anymore as a friend.”

Jaron “Boots” Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs), age 27, IBF welterweight titleholder: “Ennis is a great fight!”

Serhii Bohachuk (25-2, 24 KOs), age 27, lost majority decision to Ortiz last August: “They wanted so much money on the last fight, they just kept asking for more money. They had so many demands that it was just insane. The fight almost didn’t happen. They wanted the money so bad that we said no rematch clause. But, now you want to fight again? They still got the money. You sold your belt for that extra $200,000. I’m conflicted about it. It’s like, ‘Yeah, I’ll fight you again but give me half of your purse or something. You are going to pay for that.’ I’m very conflicted by that because I’m a proud person. But me being a fighter, I would love to [have a rematch].”

“He Knows Now”: Canelo Gives His Honest Rating Of Terence Crawford’s Last Performance At 154

Canelo Alvarez has based Terence Crawford’s chances of defeating him on the American’s last showing against Israil Madrimov.

The 34-year-old from Mexico is gearing up to face ‘Bud’ Crawford in a mega-fight later this year after the superstars finally agreed on a clash after months of negotiations.

Crawford made the move up to 154lbs last August to face WBA light middleweight champion Madrimov in Los Angeles. After a competitive contest that went the scheduled distance, the 37-year-old American was declared the winner via unanimous decision to become a four-division world champion.

Despite his spectacular career success, many prominent figures within the sport, including Canelo, were left far from impressed with Crawford’s performance against Madrimov and began to question if ‘Bud’ is taking it a step too far when he moves up to 168lbs this year.

Speaking to Sway’s Universe, Canelo gave an honest assessment of Crawford’s performance against Madrimov, where he believes Crawford looked slower at the higher weight and it will be an ‘easy fight’ for him at 168.

“Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great fighter but for me, in my weight class, it’s an easy fight. Easy money…

I don’t like to fight guys like Crawford because he moves a lot and the fight is not that great, I saw in his last fight and he doesn’t move that much now… there are weight classes for a reason.”

In a separate interview with Fight Hype, Canelo said he thought Crawford should have lost his undefeated record.

“He lost. I think he knows why there’s weight classes there, right? He make a good fight, but for me I think he lost the fight. Or draw. It could have been the other side.”

Crawford’s quest to becoming a five-weight world champion will not come easy, as he is faced with undeniably the toughest test of his glittering professional career against a man who has dominated the super middleweight division for almost five years.

Canelo will have the opportunity to re-capture the undisputed championship on May 3 when he faces IBF champion William Scull in Riyadh, leaving ‘Bud’ faced with the prospect of becoming a three-division undisputed champion if he can defy the odds against the Mexican superstar in September.

“I should be considered one of the best in history”: Terence Crawford already sees himself beating Canelo in his next fight

There are still seven months to go until the possible fight between Terence Crawford and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, but the American is already creating scenarios and hypothetical cases in this fight that is not yet official, but everything would indicate that it is only a matter of time before it is formally announced.

Taking advantage of his time to prepare physically, Crawford was in an interview with Cigar Talk on Youtube, explaining every detail about the crazy idea of fighting against the pride of Mexico.

“I was in the gym, Bill Haney came up to me and said ‘forget about Spence, go fight Canelo instead. That’s your fight. That should be the one you’re looking for’. So whenever I ran into him, he would say to me: ‘Is the fight with Canelo ready?’ I just laughed,” confessed Bud with the interviewer

All of that started to make noise toTerence Crawford, that’s when he started to believe that it was a very good idea, especially because Bill Haney began to insist that Canelo was heavy, but he was not big, that he could beat him. These ideas began to convince Bud to ask for this fight to Turki Alalshikh.

A fight that would mark a legacy for his career

In the same talk, Bud confessed that while they were putting this idea of a fight with Canelo in his head, he began to believe that he could certainly fight him and that would put him on another level of greatness:

“Winning this fight will cement me as an all-time great, because there are too many fighters who did what I did, going from 135 pounds to 168,” confessed Terence

And he explained in more detail about his skills in the ring: “My arms are long, I am strong, I even dare to say that they underestimate my strength. He is not big, it is true, it is his category and he knows it very well, but we will see if it is true what he says that it will be easy,” concluded the 37-year-old boxer.

On the other hand, Canelo has a fight scheduled in Riyadh against William Scull, with every intention of taking the Cuban’s belt and having all the titles on the line in September.
