Updates: Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder III rescheduled They will complete their trilogy battle for the WBC heavyweight championship on Oct. 9

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder will complete their trilogy battle for the WBC heavyweight championship on Oct. 9, Top Rank Boxing announced Thursday.

The fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas initially was scheduled for July 24 before Fury’s positive COVID-19 test forced its postponement last Thursday. He has since tested negative and has been cleared to travel, ESPN reported.

“I wanted nothing more than to smash the ‘Big Dosser’ on July 24, but I guess the beating will have to wait,” the 32-year-old Fury said in a statement. “Make no mistake, I will be back and better than ever. We will fight Oct. 9, and I will knock him spark out!”

Shelly Finkel, Wilder’s manager, said his charge is ready for the third bout.

“This is what we went to arbitration for,” Finkel said. “He just wanted what was owed to him. He remains ready to reclaim his world title on Oct. 9.”

The first Fury-Wilder meeting in December 2018 ended in a disputed draw. Fury won the rematch in February 2020 when Wilder’s corner threw in the towel in the seventh round. Neither has appeared in the ring since.

Fury, a 6-foot-9 Englishman dubbed “The Gypsy King,” is 30-0-1 with 21 knockouts. Wilder, a 6-foot-7 American known as “The Bronze Bomber,” is 42-1-1 with 41 knockouts.

Could Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury still be possible? Promoters rekindle hope in this fight

Boxing fans have been eager to see a clash between heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, and while it seemed that this fight would never happen, it seems that hopes have been revived for it to finally take place.

Although for many years, Frank Warren of Queensberry and Eddie Hearn of Matchroom were ‘rivals’, last year they were able to reach an agreement with DAZN. And now, both spoke about the fight they have always wanted to make.

Both did not hesitate for a moment to answer that it would be the fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, in a question and answer session during the start of Queensberry’s new deal with DAZN on April 1, details Essentialy Sports.

“I mean… the obvious one, AJ-Fury. Who knows what the future holds?” Hearn said, opening the door to possible talks to make it happen.

“Same answer. It’s the fight we all wanted to see. We, the British fans, the boxers wanted it (…) For some reason, it didn’t happen,” Warren replied.

Will Tyson Fury come out of retirement to fight AJ?

And although Tyson Fury announced his retirement last January, Warren is hopeful that he can return and the fight can be arranged.

“But it’s never too late. Who knows if Tyson decides he’s fed up with mowing the lawn, it could happen,” Warren said.

Joshua and Fury came close to facing each other on more than one occasion, but it never materialized. 2021 seemed like the big opportunity for that fight, as Joshua held the WBA, IBF and WBO titles, and Fury was the WBC heavyweight champion.

And although there was a two-fight deal for August in Saudi Arabia, at the last minute, Fury decided to face Deontay Wilder again. Meanwhile, Joshua fought Oleksandr Usyk twice, losing both fights.

And while the announcement of the ‘Gipsy King’s’ retirement seems to have dashed all hope, promoters still hope that he will return to boxing and finally reach an agreement to see these two heavyweights together in the ring.

Anthony Joshua advised to draw Tyson Fury back into the ring to make one key career move if he beats Joseph Parker.

That is the view of the talkBOXING team who have weighed in on AJ’s comeback fight this year, and who could be the potential opponents.

Joshua was brutally beaten by Daniel Dubois last year, but called out Fury for a huge all-British clash.

But the ‘Gypsy King’ announced his retirement from the sport, leaving Joshua out in the cold for now.

Several alternative options remain on the table which could include a sequel with Parker for a WBO interim title or a full world title.

Joshua beat the New Zealander in 2018 and a big win again could see him re-entered into the world title mix.

And talkBOXING hosts Simon Jordan, Ade Oladipo and Spencer Oliver believe that would be enough for Fury to consider lacing up the gloves again.

On the latest episode, Jordan proposed: “If AJ were to beat Parker for the WBO belt and it manifested itself that way, Fury comes out of retirement doesn’t he?”

Oladipo replied: “100 per cent. And then we all get behind it.

“AJ vs Fury gets made today, it’s the biggest fight in British boxing, I still put that on it.

“But if AJ were to win a big one, everyone then gets behind it and it does record-breaking numbers.”

Oliver then responded: “I think it brings Fury out of retirement quicker than before.

“I think we will see him in the ring again I really do, I think he just needed a bit of time away.”

But he is expected to target the biggest commercial fight available upon his return.

Fury is currently not entertaining talks of a fight with Joshua publicly, and is focusing on other exploits including a manager role at charity football match Soccer Aid.

And his co-promoter Bob Arum believes it is best that Fury stays retired and doesn’t reconsider a clash with Joshua.

Under no illusionTyson Fury and Anthony Joshua would have got ‘bashed to bits’ by heavyweight legend

Carl Froch believes George Foreman would have had his way with almost all of the current top heavyweights.

The former unified super middleweight champion stopped short at Usyk but was under no illusion as to how Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury would have fared.

“I don’t think Usyk is big enough,” Froch said during an appearance on talkSPORT Drive on Monday afternoon.

“I mean he is a fantastic fighter so forget Usyk…

“But George Foreman if he was around in this era of heavyweights you can forget all the other heavyweights.

“He would have bashed them to bits. They wouldn’t be able to live with him.

“Tyson Fury would have been able to give him a fight with the size of him but I still think Foreman would have done him.”

‘Big George’ is widely considered to be one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.

So great, in fact, that he picked up the world heavyweight crown twice over 20 years apart.

Foreman snatched the WBA and WBC heavyweight titles from Joe Frazier in 1973 by blasting him out inside two rounds before being relieved of the belts one year later by Muhammad Ali in Zaire.

In 1977, at 28 years old, Foreman hung up his gloves in order to focus on his newfound Christian faith.

10 years later, he returned to the ring to mount one of the most remarkable comebacks in sporting history.

In 1994, Foreman shocked the boxing world by knocking out WBA and IBF heavyweight champion Michael Moorer at the MGM Grand, New York.

The previous record was held by Jersey Joe Walcott, but Foreman blew the New Jersey slugger’s feat out of the water by eight years.

Foreman held onto his crown for another year extending his record to 46 years and 169 days old.

A devastating puncher with an iron chin and dogged resilience, Foreman was a true enigma.

‘I don’t think he should step in the ring again’: Bob Arum says Tyson Fury should stay retired

It wouldn’t be the first time that Tyson Fury has declared his retirement only to return to the ring later, but Top Rank promoter Bob Arum tells Sky Sports that he thinks this time Fury should remain retired from boxing for good.

“I think Tyson Fury owes it to himself and his family to remain happily retired. Not from life, because I believe he has a lot in front of him. He is a good communicator and is an entertainer, but I don’t think he should step in the ring again because I think he’s had enough.”

Arum continues by saying that Fury has earned enough over his last few fights to never want for money again, and thinks Fury would be better served taking on other endeavors that wouldn’t require him to take any physical punishment.

Of course if Fury were to remain retired that would deny British boxing fans a showdown against fellow countryman Anthony Joshua, but that’s not a fight that really moves the needle for Arum at this point.

“As you know, I’m not a Brit, so I’m not as fascinated by an Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight as a Brit may be,” the American said. “So it doesn’t move me that he’s walking away from boxing and walking away from that fight.”

If Fury were to decide to return to boxing for another fight Arum admits that he wouldn’t stand in the way and would be willing to have Top Rank work on it, but that will ultimately be up to Fury to decide for himself as he’s not going to push that agenda.

“We Would All Be In Danger” Tyson Fury Relieved One World Champion Isn’t A Heavyweight

Tyson Fury has praised a featherweight powerhouse who is tearing through the division.

The former WBC heavyweight champion announced his retirement from boxing at the beginning of the year, just weeks after he was beaten by Oleksandr Usyk in their huge rematch which saw the Ukrainian superstar retain his unified WBC, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles

Tyson Fury had been heavily linked with a long awaited all-British showdown against two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, although it now appears that this bout is no longer in the pipeline for both fighters, much to the disappointment of boxing fans around the globe.

Speaking whilst working as a pundit for TNT Sports, ‘The Gypsy King’ gave plaudits to WBA featherweight champion Nick Ball, as he jokingly admits ‘everyone would be unsafe’ if the 28-year-old was a heavyweight.

“I think he is fantastic, little Nick Ball. God made him 5ft 3in [5ft 2in] for a reason, because if he were 6ft 5in we would all be unsafe right now.

He is a proper English pitbull terrier. I love watching him, honestly. Even though he beat my mate Isaac Lowe, I am a massive fan of little Nick Ball.”

Ball made the second defence of his WBA crown with a dominant performance against Ireland’s TJ Doheny on March 15 in his hometown of Liverpool, stopping the 38-year-old at the end of the tenth round to remain unbeaten as a professional

The 28-year-old has expressed his interest in a showdown against pound-for-pound superstar Naoya Inoue, who is the current undisputed super bantamweight champion. Inoue has already captured world titles in four weight divisions, with many regarding the Japanese icon as one of the biggest punchers in boxing.

‘Tyson will kick himself’: Ricky Hatton believes Tyson Fury will have regret if he doesn’t fight Anthony Joshua

Ricky Hatton speaks to Sky Sports and says that although Tyson Fury says he’s walking away from professional boxing, he believes he should — and perhaps will — return for a fight against Anthony Joshua should the money be right, as he thinks Fury still has enough left in the tank.

“I would take that retirement with a pinch of salt knowing Tyson. If he gets offered the right money, the right purse for the AJ fight, knowing Tyson as I do, I think he’d jump at it.”

Hatton would continue by saying that Fury will likely be filled with regret later down the line if he doesn’t take the opportunity to fight Joshua as that fight has long been in demand but has never came to fruition for one reason or another.

“I think Tyson Fury will kick himself if he’s sat on his sofa 10 years down the line and thinks to himself: ‘I wonder what would have happened if I’d have fought AJ?’” Hatton said. “He’s in a position to do something about now rather than be cursing himself for the rest of his life.”

If Fury were to come back for a fight against Joshua, Hatton would like that to be Fury’s last hurrah, as he doesn’t want to see him stay in the sport too long to where he’ll be more vulnerable to getting hurt. As Hatton sees it, Fury has already done enough in the sport to walk away but a fight against AJ is really the cherry on top of the cake.

‘Fury will fight Joshua for money’ on the anticipated British heavyweight showdown being discussed and Fury announced his retirement

British boxing legend Ricky Hatton believes he knows what it will take for Tyson Fury to leave retirement and get in the ring with Anthony Joshua.

The much-anticipated British heavyweight showdown was being discussed until Fury announced his retirement from the sport in January following consecutive defeats to heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. Since then, the Gypsy King has given no indication that he plans to reverse his decision, but fellow Mancunian Hatton, a close friend of Fury’s, has shared his thoughts on the situation.

The former light welterweight world champion believes that for the “right money”, Tyson would “jump” at the chance to share the ring with his fellow countryman.

He told Sky Sports: “Tyson’s retired before. It just so happens they were trying to make the Joshua fight. They were trying to make it for 10 years, and it looks like they’re still not going to make it now Tyson’s retired.

“But I would take that retirement with a pinch of salt, knowing Tyson. If he gets offered the right money, the right purse for the AJ fight, knowing Tyson as I do, I think he’d jump at it.”

Hatton recommended that Fury take the Joshua fight, asserting that missing the opportunity could lead to the 36-year-old having regrets down the line.

Fury’s decision to retire left boxing fans around the world disappointed as the former world heavyweight champion announced his decision on social media.

Hatton, who was in Fury’s corner for his 2018 fight against Deontay Wilder, acknowledged that while Joshua might tempt Fury out of retirement, he believes the Gypsy King has accomplished enough and would like to see him hang up his gloves for good.

“If he does, that’s the last one I’d like him to have. Because you don’t like to see your mates get hurt.”

He will regret not fighting Anthony Joshua”if Tyson Fury stays retired says : Ricky Hatton

British boxing legend Ricky Hatton believes if Tyson Fury stays retired, he will come to regret not fighting Anthony Joshua.

Fury and Joshua are both former world champion heavyweights, both from Britain and their rivalry has been building for a number of years now

Fury publicly announced his retirement from boxing in January and has given no indication as yet that he plans to reverse that decision.

But Hatton told Sky Sports: “Tyson’s retired before. It just so happens they were trying to make the Joshua fight. They were trying to make it for 10 years and it looks like they’re still not going to make it now Tyson’s retired.

However if Fury does box Joshua, Hatton believes he should then call time on his career. “If he does, that’s the last one I’d like him to have. Because you don’t like to see your mates get hurt,” Hatton said.

‘He’d jump at it’ – Ricky Hatton reveals what it would take for Tyson Fury to accept Anthony Joshua fight

Ricky Hatton knows what it would take to get Tyson Fury in the ring for a mega-fight with Anthony Joshua.

However, the British boxing legend would rather see Fury stay retired, claiming ‘The Gypsy King’ has already ‘done enough’ in his beloved sport.

Tyson Fury announced his retirement from boxing in January following consecutive defeats to undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.

The Briton said he had ‘loved every minute’ of his stellar career in a ‘short and sweet’ social media statement.

The 36-year-old Mancunian had been heavily linked to a two-fight deal with Joshua in 2025, but dashed boxing fans’ hopes of a blockbuster encounter with ‘AJ’ after his announcement.

Hatton, a former light-welterweight world champion, asserted the ‘right money’ would leave him with no choice but to fight Joshua.

“Tyson’s retired before,” he told Sky Sports. “It just so happens they were trying to make the Joshua fight.

“They were trying to make it for 10 years and it looks like they’re still not going to make it now Tyson’s retired.

“But I would take that retirement with a pinch of salt knowing Tyson. If he gets offered the right money, the right purse for the AJ fight, knowing Tyson as I do, I think he’d jump at it.”

The 46-year-old then asserted that fighting Joshua is the right thing to do for Fury, but still believes the ex-heavyweight champion should stay out of the sport altogether and his legacy wouldn’t take a hit.

“I think Tyson will kick himself if he’s sat on his sofa 10 years down the line and thinks to himself: ‘I wonder what would have happened if I’d have fought AJ?” Hatton added.

“He’s in a position to do something about now rather than be cursing himself for the rest of his life.

“I’d like to see him retire. I think he’s done enough. I would like to see the AJ fight but I think he’s done enough.”

Hatton played a pivotal role in getting Fury back into the squared circle when the Brit returned to boxing three years after his remarkable victory over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.

Fury defeated Sefer Seferi and Francesco Pianeta upon his return in 2018 before beginning his trilogy with Deontay Wilder and claiming the WBC heavyweight title.

“Let’s have it right, a few years ago when he was 26 stone, we never thought he’d fight again,” Hatton concluded.

“He nearly wasn’t here for all the problems that he had. So for him to do what he’s done, he’s done us all proud and I’d like to see him retire now.

“His fights against Usyk were I think a lot closer than AJ’s fights with Usyk. Daniel Dubois obviously got beat by Usyk and there was a bit of controversy in that one.

“I think Usyk won both the fights against Tyson but I can see why other people thought Tyson might have won them. Because they were that close.

“Tyson, he’s still got plenty in the tank as far as I’m concerned. He’s pushed Usyk furthest out of anyone else.

“He’s come back when no one thought he could and became heavyweight champion of the world. He’s got nothing left to prove.”

Despite Fury declaring he is no longer an active boxer, a whole host of big fights could still await him if he chooses to make another comeback.

An alternative option to Joshua for Fury could be a WBC interim title shot against current holder Agit Kabayel after the governing body’s president Mauricio Sulaiman admitted his organisation would be open to sanctioning the bout.
