Tyson Fury will be Anthony Joshua’s next opponent, not me, says British rival Derek Chisora

After beating Otto Wallin, Derek Chisora considered what he will do next and revealed he believes Anthony Joshua will still fight Tyson Fury; Daniel Dubois defends the IBF heavyweight world title against Joseph Parker on February 22 live on Sky Sports Box Office

Derek Chisora has suggested three possible opponents for his next and likely final career fight.

After Saturday’s victory over Otto Wallin, Chisora canvased the crowd as to whether they wanted to see him fight Daniel Dubois, the IBF heavyweight titlist, Oleksandr Usyk, the unified WBC, WBA and WBO champion, or Anthony Joshua.

Joshua remains a major star in British boxing but he has not managed to reclaim a world title since his first loss to Usyk.

He lost a 2022 rematch to Usyk and Dubois, now the IBF champion, knocked him out last September inside five rounds.

Chisora has always been on good terms with Joshua. They both boxed for the same amateur club, Finchley ABC, and now Chisora’s career is handled by Joshua’s management company.

After his win over Wallin as he looks at imminent retirement, Chisora said: “I need something big. I think I’ve earned something big.”

He’s not convinced that will be Joshua, who he expects to fight Tyson Fury – despite the 36-year-old retiring after his second defeat to Usyk.

“Who knows? Right now AJ is healing himself after the defeat from Daniel Dubois. He’s not ready yet. When he’s ready he’ll come back and I think he’ll come back – not to fight me but to fight the ‘Gypsy King’,” Chisora said post-fight.

“I’ll let the public decide [who next]. I’ll let you guys decide.”

Boxing Francis Ngannou, an MMA heavyweight champion in both UFC and PFL, in a crossover event has no great appeal for Chisora.

“I don’t think Francis Ngannou will come back to boxing after the AJ loss,” he said. “I want to fight a fighter.”

Then he joked: “I might fight Jake Paul, who knows?”

Chisora has now had 49 professional contests, including fights with Oleksandr Usyk, Vitali Klitschko and a trilogy with Tyson Fury.

A 50th and probably final fight is likely to take place overseas. “I think I’m getting old,” Chisora said after beating Wallin.

“It was very emotional for me,” he continued. “When I arrived I said to myself before I left my hotel, ‘I’m not going to cry’.

“It was very emotional for me and very sad because I love this game so much. So I just started crying. I was crying like a kid.”

Tyson Fury visibly ecstatic as he watches cousin secure brilliant win on Derek Chisora undercard

Tyson Fury watched on in delight as cousin Walter racked up his third professional victory in the paid ranks by beating Joe Hardy.

Fury was making his third professional appearance on the undercard of Derek Chisora vs Otto Wallin at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester.

The British prodigy is the cousin of former two-time world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, and is the latest in a lineage of talented fighters from the fighting dynasty.

It was a big occasion for the 27-year-old who was looking to make a statement against journeyman Joe Hardy.

His cousin was present ringside in Manchester to watch his latest outing, his first time out in public since retiring from the sport.

And he was delighted, grinning from ear to ear ringside, as the younger Fury took the victory.

The referee in the ring scored the contest at 40-37 in Fury’s favour as his undefeated spell continued.

The prospect began well in a fluid and neat-moving pattern, boxing well on the back foot.

He was boxing in a switch-hitting stance, a familiar sight for a Fury, putting his shots together extremely well early on.

The British star dominated throughout but Hardy was fired up, and his corner shouted instructions as he tried to stay with his rival.

But unfortunately it wasn’t enough and Fury impressed as the final bell sounded to conclude his neat win.

Fury has the world at his feet and a database of boxing IQ and knowledge around him to continue to develop.

The Morecambe native has an extensive amateur background, experience which has seen him already start to put together a solid winning streak.

And he hopes to have a big career in the sport, after taking some great advice from recently retired cousin Tyson.

He told talkSPORT: “Yeah he’s helped me a lot.

“The main piece of advice that Tyson has always given me is that he’s said, ‘you can only do your best’.

“I want to take boxing as high as I can and prove to everybody how good I am.

Tyson fury

“I’ve banked rounds in my first two fights, and I’ve got good people around me.

“It will be better for me as I’m ready to take on anyone. I just need to keep getting these fights for experience.

“I’ll keep improving and adapting to anyone who is put in front of me.”

Frank Warren says Tyson Fury would only return ‘because he’s a fighting man’ amid talk of Anthony Joshua bout

Will Tyson Fury return to the boxing ring after announcing his retirement from the sport? Fury’s promoter Frank Warren says he has “not even discussed” a comeback with the 36-year-old, despite hopes he would take on compatriot Anthony Joshua this year. Warren added that if Fury were to come out of retirement, it would not be driven by financial incentives.

Frank Warren says he is not trying to bring Tyson Fury out of retirement – but if it did happen it would be because Fury is a “fighting man”.
Fury, 36, made the shock announcement in January that he is stepping away from boxing, following back-to-back defeats to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
There are some who wonder whether Fury may reverse his decision for a trilogy bout with Usyk or a long-awaited all-British clash with Anthony Joshua.
For now, though, Fury seemingly is not planning a return.
“I’m not trying to bring him back, I’ve not even discussed it with him,” Fury’s promoter Warren told TNT Sports ahead of Derek Chisora v Otto Wallin, live on TNT Sports and discovery+, on Saturday, February 8. “He’s retired and that’s it.
“If he ever decided [to return] – and that’s a big if – it would be his decision to make with his family, I would certainly not try to encourage him in doing that.
“He has been a magnificent servant for British boxing, one of the two best heavyweights of the 21st century, done it at every level, won world titles in other guys’ backyards against good quality fighters.
“He has done everything that has been asked of him, and he has had a hard career in some respects. Some self-inflicted, and when you look the first time around when he won the world title, the problems he had, the depths of despair, the boozing, messing about with stuff he shouldn’t have been messing about with.
“That in itself is a mountain to climb, and he did that and showed what he is all about, his courage, and with the support of his family he went on to win and regain the world title.”
Fury has made a retirement U-turn before in 2022 and a bout with Joshua had been talked about for several years.

But Warren says it would not be the financial lure of a huge showdown with Joshua that would bring Fury back into the ring.
“He has just got to enjoy himself now,” Warren said. “He had a tough year last year, two world title fights, three training camps, it takes a lot of you and when you are in training camp you are not with your family, not seeing the kids grow up, missing chunks of their lives. He is with them now and is enjoying himself.
“He is financially secure, he has made stacks of money and good luck to him. He is a fighting man, if he comes back to fight – I am not saying he will, and to be honest I hope he doesn’t – but if he does, he’s not doing it for the money. If he does it it’s because he’s a fighting man.”

My power gave Tyson Fury horror cut and 47 stitches – now I want to spoil Derek Chisora’s retirement plan

Otto Wallin nearly pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the decade against Tyson Fury six years ago.

The Swedish giant was drafted in as a tune-up opponent for Tyson Fury – then an unbeaten heavyweight – in 2019 ahead of his much-anticipated rematch with Deontay Wilder.

In his previous outing, Fury had made quick work of Tom Schwarz inside two rounds, and Wallin was expected to fall to the same fate.

But the tricky southpaw proved to be a much sterner test than most had anticipated.

In the third round, Wallin opened a deep gash above Fury’s right eye with a cuffing blow that painted the Brit’s chest red.

As the fight wore on, the cut got worse and worse while Wallin targeted the wound.

Wallin used every trick in the book, including rubbing his glove on Fury’s cut, to deepen the laceration.

But some brilliant work from Fury’s cutman Jorge Capetillo kept Fury in the fight.

There were tense moments in the sixth stanza when the doctor examined his eye, and there were genuine fears that a medical stoppage could end Fury’s undefeated record six years before Oleksandr Usyk would achieve that very feat.

Yet Fury held on for a unanimous decision win, although he later required 47 stitches and plastic surgery due to the damage inflicted.

Speaking to talkSPORT in 2022, Wallin said: “I gave [Fury] his toughest fight of his career.

“Wilder knocked him down a few times, but no one has been able to match his skills like I did

“I landed more punches than anybody has done on him. I landed more punches than Wilder in the first fight and [Wladimir] Klitschko together.

“So, that’s a big statement in itself and of course, I can beat him, I know that and I think he knows that too, that’s why he never mentions my name anymore.”

Wallin’s stock rose tenfold from the performance, with the Swede later going on to earn himself a top 10 place in Ring Magazine heavyweight rankings after stringing together an impressive six-fight winning streak.

However, his position in the standings came crashing down when Anthony Joshua retired him on his stool at the end of the fifth round in December 2023.

But on Saturday night, he is back under the bright lights for more big-time boxing against Derek Chisora at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester.

Wallin wasn’t the first choice to face Chisora, with a bout against Jarrel Miller initially scheduled until it was called off due to a contractual dispute.

It is being billed as ‘Last Dance’ by Queensberry Promotions but Chisora is expected to have one final bow abroad before he calls time on his long and punishing career.

Providing Chisora comes through the contest unscathed, the 41-year-old is hoping to land a high-profile match-up with either Francis Ngannou in Africa or a trilogy with Dillian Whyte.

But a loss to Wallin could throw a spanner in the works.

‘He doesn’t need to financially’ – Frank Warren reveals the only reason Tyson Fury would reverse retirement

Frank Warren insists Tyson Fury is ‘happy’ with life after boxing.

‘The Gypsy King’  left fans with their heads in their hands after retiring from the sport for a fourth time last month.

In doing so, he walked away from the long-awaited all-British showdown with Anthony Joshua while Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh was preparing an offer.

Several members of the boxing fraternity believe Fury has merely hung up his gloves as a means of driving up his purse for a lucrative clash against AJ.

However, Warren insists money wouldn’t be his primary motivation for returning to the ring.

“I’ve not bothered him and I’ve certainly not spoken to him about fighting again,” Fury’s promoter told the Ariel and Ade show on Tuesday.

“And if he does, that’s got to be his choice. He’s a very, very wealthy guy, he’s made a serious amount of money.

“He doesn’t need, financially, to fight. If he does fight, it’s because he’s got a fighting heart.

“Obviously he’ll get well paid if he does fight. But he’s got a fighting heart.”

Fury walked away from boxing after back-to-back losses at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk.

The Ukrainian slickster edged past Fury in a tight inaugural encounter via split decision in May 2024 before widening the margin to a unanimous decision victory in their December rematch.

Three weeks later, Fury took to social media to announce his retirement, and Warren isn’t expecting his client’s stance to change.

“Can he walk away from the sport? He says he has,” Warren added.

“And at this moment in time, he said to me, he’s really in a good place and that he’s very happy.

Tyson fury

“And I just want him now to enjoy his family and his life. He had a hard year last year.

“Three training camps one after another, one fight got cancelled because he got the cut eye.

“He needs now to go enjoy his life and enjoy being with his family, which is what he’s doing.”

Bakole or Wilder? Hearn denies Joshua has agreed next fight

Eddie Hearn has denied Anthony Joshua has agreed his next fight, saying the heavyweight is yet to begin talks with any opponent.

Speculation on social media had suggested Joshua could fight Martin Bakole or Deontay Wilder next.

With Joshua, 35, coming off a knockout loss to IBF champion Daniel Dubois in an all-British clash, Matchroom promoter Hearn says no concrete plans are in place.

“If you look at Twitter [X], he’s signed and agreed to fight Martin Bakole. Today it’s all signed for Wilder against Joshua on June 7th. [But with] both of those fights there hasn’t been one discussion yet,” Hearn said on the 5 Live Boxing with Steve Bunce podcast.

Congolese heavyweight Bakole has talked up a fight with Joshua in recent weeks, even suggesting he hurt the two-time heavyweight world champion in a sparring session.

But Hearn, who has promoted Joshua for the entirety of his professional career, laughed off the story, saying he has never witnessed Bakole “rock” Joshua in sparring.

“I think Martin Bakole is a very good fighter, but don’t get carried away that this is the new George Foreman,” Hearn said.

Joshua’s return to the summit of the heavyweight scene was halted by Dubois at Wembley last September as he suffered the fourth defeat of his career and second via stoppage.

He was expected to fight Dubois again, but opted out of talks for a rematch and Dubois will face Joseph Parker on 22 February instead.

Before Tyson Fury’s shock retirement announcement last month, anticipation had been building the Gypsy King might face Joshua.

But while that fight seems unlikely again, Hearn says Fury remains at the top of Joshua’s wishlist.

“It’s always been the two – Tyson Fury – who is retired at the moment, we’ll see how long that lasts, and the winner of Dubois-Parker,” Hearn said of Joshua’s ideal next opponent.

Joshua has history with both Dubois and Parker having stripped Parker of his WBO title in their 2018 unification fight.

Hearn is not confident Dubois will retain his IBF title, with Parker on a five-fight winning streak, including wins over Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.

“The first four, five rounds of that fight will be so important,” Hearn said of Dubois-Parker.

“If Parker can get through those rounds, you’ve got to put question marks back in Dubois’ head because right now I think he thinks he’s invincible.

“He’s buying into the hype. Which might be good for him. Dubois is a handful.

“I think he’s beatable and I think Parker is the guy to do it. Right now, a confident Daniel Dubois is a dangerous man.”

“Pull Yourself Together” Frank Bruno Didn’t Hesitate When Asked Who Wins Tyson Fury vs Joshua

Frank Bruno has predicted who he believes will prevail in an all-British heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

Despite the shock retirement announcement made by Fury earlier this month, it is expected that ‘The Gypsy King’ could be tempted to make a return to the sport to face Joshua in a fight that has been speculated for many years.

The 36-year-old was unsuccessful in his bid to become a three-time world heavyweight champion last December, when he was outpointed by Oleksandr Usyk in their huge rematch in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

‘AJ’ is preparing to make a return to boxing after suffering a shock knockout defeat to newly crowned IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September, although it remains unclear when he will be returning and who his next opponent will be.

Speaking to iFL TV, Bruno backed ‘The Gypsy King’ to prevail in a potential showdown with Joshua, claiming he believes Fury will ‘get himself together’ and do the business.

“I think Fury, you know. For some strange reason he’ll get himself together, pull himself together, and the weight that he’s got amongst other ones, use that all.”

In light of Fury’s retirement announcement, Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh revealed he would be reaching out to ‘The Gypsy King’ to discuss his options and whether he might be able to tempt him in to one more huge fight before he hangs the gloves up for good, drawing the curtain on what has been a storied and accomplished professional career.

He Was Robbed,Oleksandr Usyk’s Team Finally Reacts To Tyson Fury’s Shock Retirement After Claiming He Was Robbed

Tyson Fury retired from the sport of boxing at age 36 this year following back-to-back losses against Oleksandr Usyk.

The big man from Morecambe is a two-time world heavyweight champion with statement wins over Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder. He fell short for the first time in his professional career in May of 2024, battling Usyk for the undisputed title

In the rematch, the Ukrainian put three of the four major belts on the line after vacating the IBF. He retained them with a unanimous decision, one which Fury branded a ‘robbery.’

Less than a month later, ‘The Gypsy King’ would announce he was to hang up the gloves, ending with a phrase highlighting daylight robbery.

“Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing, it has been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it and I’m going to end with this; Dick Turpin wore a mask.”

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Usyk’s longtime promoter Alex Krassyuk joked that it was the ‘seventh’ time the Brit had announced his retirement.

“I thought it was the seventh time. That was my personal calculation.”

Krassyuk went on to praise Fury and said that he believes fans will see him step through the ropes once more.

“It’s 50/50. He did sound serious, but I can’t be sure he’s out of the ring forever. That’s my personal opinion, my hunch, my feeling. I still can see him fighting. It can be anything, like money, something interesting.

“He’s a champion. He’s strong. He’s well loved and respected in the world of boxing. Why should he quit? I think after six, seven months, he will have a rest and he will probably change his mind.”

Tyson fury, Deontay wilder

Should Fury heavyweight return, he is widely expected to face Anthony Joshua after years of the fight marinating. As for Usyk, he has a keen eye on Daniel Dubois’ IBF title defence against Joseph Parker on February 22, with a match-up against the winner giving him a chance to become undisputed yet again.

‘The all time Most Avoided Heavyweight’ Has Been Told By Turki Alalshikh That He Will Fight Anthony Joshua Next

Anthony Joshua may have found his next opponent.

‘Anthony Joshua’ suffered a shock fifth round knockout defeat against newly crowned IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium last September, but has confirmed he will be making a return to the sport this year

It was heavily speculated that the 35-year-old would be facing Tyson Fury next until ‘The Gypsy King’ announced his retirement from boxing at the beginning of January.

The man standing opposite Joshua in his next contest could have just been revealed though, after a heavyweight powerhouse claimed he has had his next fight confirmed by Turki Alalshikh.

Martin Bakole has picked up 21 wins in 22 professional contests, securing 16 knockout victories in the process and is on a run of three stoppages all inside six rounds. His last outing came in August when he blasted out highly rated American prospect Jared Anderson inside five rounds.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Bakole – who has picked up the tag of the most avoided man in the division – revealed he has been advised by Alalshikh that his next fight will come against two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in Africa.

“I love that fight, and I would like to say thank you to [His] Excellency because he’s behind this. He said ‘Martin we have a big fight in America, finish with [Efe] Ajagba and then Anthony Joshua is next in Africa.’

“Even I heard Anthony Joshua said he needs to fight in Africa, so all he need was a promoter or someone to promote that fight. Between me and him in Africa that will be a good fight.”

Martin Bakole has also secured impressive wins against Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka in 2022 and Carlos Takam in 2023. His maiden career defeat came at the hands of Michael Hunter, who stopped him in the final round of their fight back in October 2018.

Tyson Fury Delivers ‘Truthful’ Verdict On Whether Deontay Wilder Should Be Making His Comeback

Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder will forever be intrinsically linked after what they went through in the ring together.

These two boxing stars and famously extrovert characters will go down in history for their epic trilogy from 2018 until 2021.

The first fight came shortly after Fury had returned to the ring following a long time out dealing with mental health and addiction issues. As such he was not at his previous world title-winning best, but still managed to box to a draw despite being knocked down in dramatic fashion in the 12th round.

The next two fights saw Fury switch up his approach and box on the front foot. He mauled and battered Wilder into submission twice, leaving him with the WBC belt which he eventually went on to lose to Oleksandr Uysk in 2023.

Wilder has fought three times since the final loss to Fury – once beating Robert Helenius, but then taking a points loss to Joseph Parker and a knockout defeat at the fists of Zhilei Zhang last June.

Following those loses many within the sport have called for ‘The Bronze Bomber’ to walk away, but he has confirmed his return with his comeback fight expected to take place in April.

Speaking to Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru & Henry, Fury was asked whether Wilder should should carry on his career or hang up the gloves for good.

“Being truthful I’d like to see poor old Deontay retire from boxing. When I beat Wilder he was 44-0 with 43 KOs and he KO’d the guy who went the distance with him in the rematch.

So that means he knocked out every single person he ever faced and obviously lost the three fights to me. We took a lot of years out of each other’s life.

Tyson fury

Even when he’s come back and had a couple of fights since, he’s only a shadow of his former glory. The only thing left about Deontay Wilder is his name.”

Unlike Wilder, Fury has decided to retire after back-to-back losses to Usyk.
