“He’s The Best After Usyk” Tony Bellew Has No Doubt Who He Now Rates Higher Between Fury And Dubois: “He’s The Best After Usyk”

Daniel Dubois recently joined Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury at the top table of British, and indeed world, heavyweights.

The 27-year-old bounced back from a loss to Oleksandr Usyk, his first world title tilt, with three statement stoppages wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Joshua

Having been elevated to IBF World Champion when Usyk vacated the belt, on paper it would seem that Dubois is now the second best in the world after the Ukrainian has absolutely secured the top spot with wins over all three Brits mentioned – twice against both Fury and ‘AJ.’

However, speaking to Fightlens, former cruiserweight world champion turned pundit Tony Bellew believes Fury’s performances in his fights against Usyk still make him number two.

“I think both are amazing fighters. Tyson Fury will be back 100%, if he wants to, that is. And I think he’s the second-best heavyweight in the world.”

Fury lost via split decision in the first bout with Usyk and unanimously in the rematch, however believes he did enough to win both contests. With that sour taste, he recently announced his retirement from the sport of boxing at the age of 36.

It leaves a lucrative and long-awaited bout with Joshua on the table – many feel the announcement that he will hang up the gloves is a bargaining chip on Fury’s part and that the fight will still be made at one point this year.

Though Dubois has a tough test in Joseph Parker next month and then his sights firmly set on a rematch with Usyk for the chance to become undisputed champion, he has also expressed an interest in facing the winner of Fury vs Joshua should it happen.

Tyson Fury backed to make surprise career change if he doesn’t make retirement U-turn for Anthony Joshua fight

Tyson Fury is retired from boxing for now but Duke McKenzie still believes he should remain in the sport in some capacity.

Tyson Fury decided to hang up his gloves releasing a video confirming his retirement, despite intense talk of finally setting his heavyweight rivalry with Anthony Joshua this year.

The ‘Gypsy King’ had suffered back-to-back defeats against the division’s leading operator Oleksandr Usyk, but his career still had potential of drawing some commercial blockbuster nights.

Although there is still optimism that Fury will step in the ring with Joshua, given Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh intends to hold talks to try and lure him back into the squared circle.

Fury also retired last in 2022 after beating Dillian Whyte, but life outside of the sport wasn’t for him, and he made a U-turn and was lured back into some big fights.

He is now 36-years-old and despite being at the twilight end of his career, is still an extremely gifted technical fighter.

And ex-world champion McKenzie believes he should return, but if he chooses not to, should try his hand at promoting fighters on the other side of the fence.

He told talkSPORT.com: “100 per cent, it probably will happen [lured out of retirement for Joshua fight].

“He’s said the same thing several times, and then something comes in his mind a few months on when he gets bored.

“I don’t think he has the mentality for that. I think his forte would be staying in the sport, but maybe as a promoter or a manager.

“I think he’d be great at that if he chooses not to come back, he will always be involved in boxing.

“But I just think he still has another fight in him.”

Fury and Joshua still promises to be one of the biggest fights in boxing, despite no world titles likely to be on the line.

Joshua is too looking to bounce back after being on the receiving end of a brutal stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois in September.

But despite their current predicaments, the pair could earn huge paydays for agreeing to a showdown, particularly if it is a two-fight deal.

Reports surprisingly indicated that the fight could be worth £500 million, but they were dismissed by Saudi kingpin Alalshikh.

Although McKenzie still believes it would be a mistake for Fury to leave the lucrative opportunities behind.

He added: “Yeah whatever they offer him whether it is £100 million or £200 million, take it.

“I still believe he will come out of retirement, make no mistake about that.”

His promoter Frank Warren is satisfied with his decision, and doesn’t plan to contact him and attempt to reverse his plan.

“I Want To Knock Him Out” Heavyweight Vows To Retire Anthony Joshua In Trilogy Fight: “I Want To Knock Him Out”

British heavyweight Dillian Whyte is targeting a ‘trilogy’ fight with Anthony Joshua as he vows to retire his bitter rival.

The heavyweight duo first clashed on the amateur circuit 16-years ago, as ‘The Bodysnatcher’ claimed a points victory over a novice Joshua who hadn’t long had his first contest when the pair met

Their bitter feud was reignited in December 2015 when ‘AJ’ captured the vacant British heavyweight title with an explosive 7th-round knockout victory over Whyte, who had rocked Joshua in the second round before eventually suffering the first defeat of his professional career.

Their highly anticipated rematch was due to happen in August 2023, but was cancelled after Whyte returned an adverse finding in a doping test. Finnish heavyweight Robert Helenius stepped in and was knocked out in seven rounds. Whyte was later cleared to box after an investigation found it was a contaminated supplement that caused the findings.

Joshua is expected to return to the ring for the first time since suffering a shock knockout defeat to IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois last September, with Whyte putting himself forward to face his rival as he vows to finally send him into retirement.

Speaking to Sky Sports Boxing, ‘The Bodysnatcher’ welcomed the idea of facing the 35-year-old for the third time, but claimed he is ‘finished’ after that defeat to Dubois.

“If he wants to fight, then all they’ve got to do is call me. I’m always up for fighting AJ. No problem for me. However, personally, I think he’s finished. I think he made a huge mistake not taking the immediate rematch with Dubois. It was a world title fight, a great payday and the perfect opportunity to avenge his knockout loss.”

“Me and him will always be a good fight. We just have that chemistry. I don’t want to lose to him, he doesn’t want to lose to me, and we want to prove each other wrong. We want to knock each other out so it will always be a good fight.

“Eddie [Hearn] has publicly stated Joshua could fight me next, but whether he will or not I don’t know whether he or his people want it, then we wait to see. I would love to retire him.”

Whyte returned to the ring in December when he knocked out Ebenezer Tetteh in Gibraltar. The 36-year-old is keen on returning to the ring as soon as possible, with a fight date and opponent expected to be announced in due course.

Oleksandr Usyk Names The ‘Hit Harder’ Fighter Who can Hit Him Harder Than Joshua, Fury And Dubois

Oleksandr Usyk has beaten five Brits in the last seven years, four in the heavyweight ranks including the nation’s best in Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Daniel Dubois.

Usyk first visited these shores to defend his undisputed cruiserweight belts against Tony Bellew, stopping the challenger inside eight rounds before deciding up was time to move up to the heavyweight ranks

After a warm-up against Chazz Witherspoon, Usyk was tested by Derek Chisora, weathering an early storm to win a unanimous decision and set up a shot at Anthony Joshua’s unified titles. The Ukrainian beat ‘AJ’ twice in a row, winning then retaining the belts.

He then made a defence against Daniel Dubois, which included a controversial low blow that saw the champion down and recovering for minutes before rising to stop the 27-year-old Brit in the ninth.

Most recently, Usyk did the double over Tyson Fury, taking everything ‘The Gypsy King’ could throw to win by split decision and become undisputed. He would win unanimously in their rematch

In an interview with the 3 Knockdown Rule, he called the Morecambe man his hardest fight, but was clear that Chisora hit him harder than all others.

“Listen, I have respect for Tyson Fury. A fighter, a great man, but my opponent. Very hard man. Very smart … [Hardest fight] I think yes. Punch? I think no. Derek Chisora. Very tough guy. Derek – right hand, left hand, I’d like block… ‘Oh my God! Oh move Alex, this is dangerous.’”

Usyk has described the punch of the heavyweight veteran as ‘a baseball bat.’ Chisora has been competing professionally since 2007 but is currently enjoying somewhat of an Indian Summer as he makes his way towards 50 fights before finally hanging up the gloves.

He lost twice to Joseph Parker after the Usyk defeat before beating Kubrat Pulev and challenging for Fury’s then WBC belt in a trilogy that he lost to make it 3-0 to ‘The Gypsy King.’

His most recent wins over Gerald Washington and particularly Joe Joyce, however, have seen fans enjoying this farewell tour slightly more. Next up is Otto Wallin on February 8 in Manchester – number 49.

Lennox Lewis Is Certain Who Would Win Between Prime Mike Tyson And Oleksandr Usyk

Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson and Oleksandr Usyk are three of the greatest heavyweights of all time

Oleksandr Usyk has recently cemented himself as one of the all-time greats after claiming a second victory over Tyson Fury in December, successfully defending his unified WBC, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles in the process.

In their first fight last May, the Ukrainian icon became the first undisputed heavyweight champion of the ‘four belt era’, having already achieved undisputed status at cruiserweight back in 2018.

Lewis and ‘Iron’ Mike fought during the same era back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, eventually clashing with each other in June 2002. ‘The Lion’ overcame the once formidable Tyson, knocking him out in the eighth round to keep a hold of his WBC heavyweight title.

The British legend would go on to fight just once more, stopping Vitali Klitschko in the sixth round of his 44th and final professional appearance.

In a round of ‘Winner Stays On’ with Mail Sport Boxing, Lewis was asked to pick a winner between the Ukrainian superstar, and his former opponent ‘Iron’ Mike.

“Mike Tyson.”

Tyson became the youngest world heavyweight champion in 1986 when he blasted out Trevor Berbick in the second round to capture the WBC heavyweight crown.

Despite facing a number of difficulties outside the ring during his tenure, ‘Iron’ Mike is regarded by so many as one of the best heavyweights to ever grace the sport, holding the undisputed championship for three years between 1987 and 1990, defeating the likes of Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks and Frank Bruno.

“I See Him In Control”: Kell Brook Has No Doubt Who Would Win Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua: “I See Him In Control”

Former world champion Kell Brook is keen to see Anthony Joshua versus Tyson Fury.

Kell Brook knows all about grudge matches between countrymen who have not always got on. For many years in his career, he considered himself to be in the shadow of Amir Khan who shot to fame soon after winning a silver medal at a young age in the Athens Olympics and then turned pro to plenty of fanfare.

Khan went on to win a light welterweight title in quick time and had plenty of big nights against the likes of Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez.

Brook also reached the top by becoming a welterweight world champion after defeating Shawn Porter, but later lost to Errol Spence Jr and Crawford.

He and Khan both ended their careers with a much anticipated fight in Manchester back in February 2022 when Brook won via stoppage in the 6th round.

Speaking to Seconds Out, ‘The Special One’ was asked if he thinks Fury and Joshua will share a ring in 2025

“Yeah, I think they’re both at that stage of their career where they fight for big money. This is the time.”

He was then asked how it would go.

“I’d go with Fury. I just see Fury in control, to be honest with you. Overall, looking at it, I think he’s got more than Joshua. He’s done it all, he’s a fighting man, he can box, he can fight.

“Don’t get me wrong, Joshua is a serious athlete who can punch, he’s an athlete and it’s heavyweight boxing at the end of the day but I’d go with Fury.”

Unfortunately for fans who are looking forward to the fight, Fury threw a spanner in the works recently when he announced his retirement from the sport. That came following two losses to Oleksandr Usyk, losing his heavyweight belt in what he described as ‘robberies’ on the cards

Many feel that he will still be tempted to face ‘AJ’ – who has also been beaten twice by Usyk and recently failed in an attempt to win back a title against Daniel Dubois – later this year.

Tyson Fury Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Daniel Dubois Will Beat Joseph Parker

Tyson Fury is looking forward to Daniel Dubois versus Joseph Parker, which is one of many great fights on the first major card of the year.

On February 22 out in Saudi Arabia, an epic night of boxing will be topped by the rematch between undisputed light heavyweight world champion Artur Beterbiev and the man he beat back in October

Dubois versus Parker sees two of the banner division’s most in form men square off to do battle for ‘DDD’s IBF world title. He won it after beating Fillip Hrgovic for the interim strap, before he was then elevated to full champion and defended it with a knockout win over Anthony Joshua in September 2024.

Parker’s last two outings have been just as impressive. He beat Deontay Wilder on points after nullifying the American’s ability to land big punches over 12 rounds. He then took on Zhilei Zhang in June and despite being put down, saw out another solid points win.

Fury and Parker have long been friends and gym mates so it’s no surprise that when speaking to TNT Sports Boxing, former WBC ruler Fury picked the New Zealander to beat his fellow Brit.

“I’ve got to go with my old pal Joseph Parker.”

Whoever wins this fight will be well-placed to square up with Oleksandr Usyk for an undisputed fight later down the line.

Dubois has already shared the ring with the great Ukrainian, ultimately being knocked out in the 9th round despite scoring a controversial knockdown of his own that was ruled to be a low blow.

Eddie Hearn insists ‘only one man can beat’ Oleksandr Usyk after laying waste to Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Daniel Dubois

Oleksandr Usyk has barely put a foot wrong during his unblemished 23-0 professional career – but Eddie Hearn believes one man could push him all the way.

The Ukrainian slickster is the current pound-for-pound king of boxing and is one of only three male fighters in the four-belt era to achieve undisputed supremacy in two separate weight classes (alongside Naoya Inoue and Terence Crawford).

After unifying all the belts at cruiserweight with a stunning victory over Murat Gassiev in July 2018, and then defending them by flattening Tony Bellew four months later, Usyk moved up to boxing’s glamour division.

There, he recorded a couple of routine victories over Chazz Witherspoon and Derek Chisora before landing a blockbuster showdown with WBA, WBO and IBF title holder Anthony Joshua.

Several members of the boxing fraternity insisted that Usyk was ‘too small’ to beat AJ.

But the masterful technician proved his doubters wrong by outclassing the Watford powerhouse in back-to-back bouts.

Usyk then laid waste to the fast-rising Daniel Dubois before taking on WBC champion Tyson Fury in May 2024 for the undisputed crown.’The Cat’ edged their epic inaugural encounter via split decision and subsequently widened the margin in their rematch seven months later.

In between the two fights, Usyk was forced to relinquish the IBF title to Dubois in order to pursue his rematch with Fury.

However, Hearn believes lineal cruiserweight king Jai Opetaia has the best chance of beating him.

“I’m looking down the road, Jai is humble,” Hearn told ESNEWS after Opetaia’s recent blowout of David Nyika.

“He’s committed to the cruiserweight division but for me one of the best of all time was Usyk, he became undisputed, moved up and became undisputed at heavyweight.

“The medium focus right now is every belt in the division and the long-term focus is to fight Usyk for the unified heavyweight world championship.

“I believe he is the only fighter who can give Usyk a real fight over the next 12-18 months.”

Opetaia is the consensus best fighter at 200lbs and is currently in possession of the IBF and Ring Magazine titles.

“Too Many Stay Too Long”  Teddy Atlas Says ‘It’s Time’ For Former Heavyweight Champion To Retire: “Too Many Stay Too Long”

The dust is still setting on the shock announcement that Tyson Fury has retired from the sport and now Teddy Atlas has shared his views.

Fury took to social media earlier in January to reveal that he is bowing out after a hugely successful career.

‘The Gypsy King’ has won belts at every level from British, European and Commonwealth to World. He was also lineal champion following his impressive victory on away soil versus Wladimir Klitschko and recorded famous wins in the states against fearsome puncher Deontay Wilder, who he drew with once and knocked out in brutal fashion in two other fights to complete a trilogy.

His last two contests were against Oleksandr Usyk, the first being a tilt at undisputed honours. He fell short in that one, losing on points after taking a barrage of shots in the 9th that proved to be the difference on the cards. The rematch in December went the same way, though this time the 36-year-old lost a unanimous decision and decided to walk away.

Speaking on the Fight, former trainer Atlas gave his view on the news and wished Fury luck.

“I think it’s time. I love Tyson Fury, he’s a guy we can all learn from. Everyone uses the words ‘don’t give up,’ but he’s lived it. He has taught us that lesson. He went through drugs and alcohol abuse, spiralling downwards, thinking about suicide. What a sad thing.

The poor guy got that depressed, but he didn’t, he came back, he fights for the heavyweight title against one of the best punchers of all time in Wilder, he gets dropped, he’s laying there flat like he’s dead and what does he do? He gets up, he doesn’t quit, then he goes on to have an unparalleled career, earning money, winning titles, then he’s involved in these incredible undisputed fights.

How many times have we seen these fighters when they don’t know when to leave? Too many times. If this time is true, all I have to say is God bless, congratulations, thank you for everything you gave us.”

Many hope that Fury’s announcement is a bargaining chip and that he will in fact fight at least once more against Anthony Joshua in what would be an epic all-British clash between two long-term rivals.

Tyson Fury And Usyk Both Name The Same Knockout Artist As ‘The Future Of The Heavyweight Division’

They disagreed over many things, but Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury seem to see eye-to-eye on who will rule the heavyweight division in years to come.

Right now, Usyk remains the man at the top. The 37-year-old is unbeaten in the professional ring after 23 fights. In that time and over the last 13 years, he has cleaned out the cruiserweight division and become undisputed champion.

Then despite being a naturally smaller man, he has beaten everyone he has faced up at heavyweight including Anthony Joshua twice, Fury twice, Derek Chisora and Daniel Dubois. He has vowed to keep on fighting, though surely not for much longer.

Fury, meanwhile, announced his retirement from the sport following two back-to-back losses to Usyk, who is the only man to beat the former WBC champion.

Many hope that in time Fury might be lured back for one more epic showdown with long-time British rival Joshua. However, none of these men will be around too much longer, and Fury is certain he knows who will take their place at the top.

“Moses Itauma is the future of the heavyweight division 100%.”

Usyk has also seen the highly rated puncher fight and had plenty of praise for the 19-year-old, as reported by his promoter Frank Warren.

“Alex Krassyuk and Usyk were both sitting there and both of them said at the same time ‘this is the future of the heavyweight division’”.

Itauma is hoping to become the youngest-ever world champion but only has a few months to beat Mike Tyson‘s record. In his last two contests he stopped Mariusz Wach inside two rounds, then knocked out Demsey McKean in the opening round in December.

Itauma doesn’t currently have a fight scheduled but has spoken before about his desire to face the likes of Kubrat Pulev, Chisora and Filip Hrgovic.
