“I want to see it now” Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder likely following Tyson Fury’s retirement: “I want to see it now”

Earlier this month, Tyson Fury suddenly announced his retirement from professional boxing. ‘The Gypsy King’ was last seen in the ring in December, suffering a close decision loss to Oleksandr Usyk. While many called for Fury to finally face Anthony Joshua next, the British heavyweight instead decided to hang up the gloves.

In the event that Tyson Fury remains retired, Anthony Joshua has no shortage of potential opponents. Speaking in a recent interview with TalkSport, boxing promoter Turki Alalshikh discussed the retirement of ‘The Gpysy King’. There, the Saudi advisor revealed plans to speak with Fury about another fight, likely against ‘AJ’.

However, if he can’t coax Tyson Fury out of retirement, he instead wants to book Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder. While the feud between the two UK stars is massive, ‘AJ’ has a lengthy history with ‘The Bronze Bomber’ as well. The two nearly fought last March, but the bout was derailed due to Wilder’s recent upset loss to Joseph Parker.

That defeat was one of many for Deontay Wilder as of late. The former heavyweight champion has lost four of his last five bouts, last being knocked out by Zhilei Zhang last summer. While ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has seen better days, Alalshikh wants to book the American against Anthony Joshua while he still can.

“If you want something about the British markets, I want to see [Anthony] Joshua and [Deontay] Wilder now.” Turki Alalshikh stated to TalkSport earlier this week. “We finished the deal with [Martin] Bakole against the Nigerian fighter. [Efe] Ajagba, or something like that. We finished that as they must do it, because this is mandatory for the IBF.”

He continued, “Then after that, we are open to seeing Joshua also against Bakole. I want to see this fight right, I want to see it but you know where I want to see it. I want to see it in Africa… Why not Joshua and Wilder?”

What do you make of these comments from the boxing promoter? Do you want to see Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder next?

Eddie Hearn claims Wembley is booked for blockbuster Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury showdown… before Gypsy King provides shock update on boxing future

Eddie Hearn revealed he has booked out Wembley Stadium ahead of a potential all-British showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, just hours before the Gypsy King dropped a bombshell update on his boxing future.

The two British heavyweights have shared a long-running and bitter rivalry over the years, with constant speculation at times that a highly-anticipated fight between them will finally take place.

Yet, despite strong public support for a bout and significant conjecture and negotiations, a showdown has never materialised

Earlier this month, rumours circulated on social media that a fight had finally been agreed between Joshua and Fury in what would be dubbed as ‘The Battle of Britain’ and arguably the biggest fight in British boxing history.

And Hearn has revealed he has reserved the iconic Wembley Stadium for the fight to potentially take place in ‘May or June’ – but admitted it all comes down to Fury’s decision after his recent loss to Oleksandr Usyk.

‘Yes. We’re looking to get back in the ring in May or June. If it ended up being July, it doesn’t really matter,’ Hearn told Sky Sports at the Ring Awards when asked if he has booked in a Wembley date.

‘Because when he looks at the options, what else is he going to do and who else is he going to fight?’.

Hearn’s teasing update to fans was squashed almost instantly on Monday by the Gypsy King, who took to social media to reveal that he is retiring from the sport.

‘Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet,’ Fury said in a clip he shared to social media.

‘I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it.

‘I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. GET UP!’

After his defeat by Usyk, Fury had suggested he has no intention of retiring.

Although Fury’s announcement has shocked boxing fans across the world, some supporters are questioning whether the retirement claim is genuine, given the Gypsy King has previously retired from the sport before returning.

Back in 2022, Fury revealed he was ‘done’ with boxing after beating Dillian Whyte, only to return at the end of the year to fight Derek Chisora.

Some fans have questioned whether Fury’s cryptic message at the end of his video which said ‘Dick Turpin wore a mask’ was a potential dig at Joshua’s camp in terms of the fight negotiations.

Meanwhile, Joshua earlier this month gave credence to the speculation of a fight against Fury by outlining his plan for the year ahead.

‘2025, I am targeting Tyson Fury,’ the 35-year-old explained during a trip to meet Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

Joshua’s last fight came in September when he faced rising prospect Daniel Dubois in a bid to become a three-time world heavyweight champion.

Anthony Joshua Delivers 4 Word Message To Usyk After Coming Face To Face For First Time Since Fury Win

Oleksandr Usyk sits right at the top of many pound-for-pound lists.

The former undisputed cruiserweight champion stepped up to heavyweight just five years ago and has beaten all comers on his way to gaining every belt in boxing’s blue-riband division

After victories over Chazz Witherspoon and Derek Chisora the Ukrainian dethroned Anthony Joshua, taking his WBA, IBF and WBO titles when he outpointed the Brit over 12 rounds in London back in 2021. The following year Usyk repeated the feat and retained his belts in a rematch in Saudi Arabia.

Daniel Dubois was then called as a mandatory and, after being put on the canvas for the first time in his career from a controversial low blow, Usyk stopped his man in the ninth round to setup an undisputed clash against WBC champion Tyson Fury.

The 37-year-old defeated ‘The Gypsy King’ twice within the space of seven months to cement his standing as the best heavyweight of his generation and become the divisions first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis nearly 25 years ago.

At The Ring Magazine awards, Joshua came face-to-face to Usyk for the first time since his second victory over Fury and had a simple message for the champion after cleaning out the division – “I’m proud of you”.

“I respect you and I’m proud of you, honestly. What you’ve done is not easy, well done my brother, I’m proud of you. What you have done is very impressive, I understand from [my heart], it’s good.”

Usyk has confirmed he will continue in the sport and is tipped to rematch current IBF champion Dubois next, however the latter must first come through Joseph Parker on February 22.

Mega Fight: Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury: Eddie Hearn reveals he has reserved Wembley Stadium for potential summer mega fight

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury has moved a step closer and could happen this summer at Wembley Stadium.

Eddie Hearn has revealed he wants Joshua to return to action in May or June and has reserved Wembley for a potential mega-fight with Fury.

However, Hearn admits it is still unclear what Fury wants to do after successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.

Asked if he had a Wembley date available if Fury wanted to fight Joshua, Hearn said: “Yes. We’re looking to get back in the ring in May or June. If it ended up being July, it doesn’t really matter.

“I still think it rests on Tyson Fury. Until the water settles on the defeat and where he’s at mentally and what he wants to do, that’s where we’re really going to find out.

“Because when he looks at the options, what else is he going to do and who else is he going to fight?”.

Joshua, who has not fought since being knocked out by Daniel Dubois in September, posted a picture of Fury on his Instagram with the message “looking for this guy”.

Speaking at the Ring Awards, Hearn added: “Everything I’ve seen from AJ’s social media, particularly in the last hour or so, is very encouraging.

“He’s not really one to call anyone out, but clearly he is calling him out. He’s calling out Tyson Fury.

“It’s the fight he wants. I keep saying there are two fights: Daniel Dubois or Tyson Fury.

“The world heavyweight title is what he [Joshua] wants. But, of course, Fury is a fight that must land on the resume of Anthony Joshua.

“And obviously it must be delivered for the British public as well.

“I think the real key in this is Tyson Fury. He’s just three weeks off a defeat, probably still upset and reflecting upon that defeat. We’ll have to see if he wants to fight again.”

Joshua: I’m gunning for Fury and want to leave the game with a bang

“After my last fight I took some time out. I let my body heal, which I’m still working on now, and I declined some business opportunities so I could focus on the sport, which takes off mental pressure as well as physically.

“I went away with family which is always good and we’re back again for 2025 and I feel good.

“It’s a fight [Joshua vs Fury] I want to see, because I’m a fan of boxing, so I want to get that fight underway.

“When I’m in the local gym everyone is asking me, and the reason I decided to do some interesting stuff (on social media) is because I haven’t got many years ahead of me. I’ve had more years behind me.

“So what I want to do is leave the game with a bang and make an impact.

“Be outlandish, a great character, have fun with it while we’re doing it and go for the big fights. Tyson Fury is one of them.

daniel dubois

“Every time I see people they say: ‘When you fighting Fury?’ The Irish community, English community, Nigerian community, everyone is asking me the same question.

“As a fighter, it’s up to me to deliver. It has to happen this year.”

Heavyweight ‘Obliterated’ Daniel Dubois In Sparring Before ‘Breaking His Nose And Making Him Quit’

Daniel Dubois has a long line of top contenders looking for a shot at his IBF Heavyweight World Title.

The 27-year-old Brit was one of the division’s success stories in 2024, entering the year with a win over Jarrell Miller and building on that by defeating Filip Hrgovic for the interim belt. He was then upgraded to full champion when Oleksandr Usyk vacated the title.

To legitimise his status as one of the best on the scene, Dubois knocked out Anthony Joshua in five rounds for his first defence.

He now faces Joseph Parker on February 22 and then will likely be called to fight a mandatory challenger. That just may be one Martin Bakole, but trainer Billy Nelson told Seconds Out that the champ will avoid his charge due to a much-discussed past sparring session

“Usyk will not fight Martin and it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Daniel vacated rather than fight Martin as well. They’ve been in the ring with each other before. Martin will stop Usyk and he’ll obliterate Daniel Dubois.

Martin wasn’t fully fit when he sparred Daniel, about 70% fit, and schooled him. Stopped him, made him quit and broke his nose. It’s fact. Martin’s already told people what happened. I was there. Barry McGuigan was there. I’m not telling lies.

And he’s also stopped Usyk as he’s told you before, albeit I wasn’t there. But why would he come out publicly, live on Sky Sports, and say that he stopped Usyk if he didn’t? Either way, what a fantastic fight that would be. Usyk’s number one in the world for a reason.”

Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren strongly denies the broken nose claim.

Bakole – who has been criticised by some for revealing sparring details – scored a statement stoppage of rising star Jared Anderson in August. He has now been ordered to fight a final eliminator against Efe Ajagba to determine the number on contender for Dubois.

Oleksandr Usyk is set to take an ‘extended break’ from boxing after beating Tyson Fury for a second time.

Oleksandr Usyk handed Fury the first defeat of his professional career in May via a split decision and then widened the margins in their rematch last month, with all three judges scoring the bout in his favour.

The Ukrainian slickster often gets straight back into training after his fights but his manager Egis Klimas claims his fighter won’t be in the gym again until at least April.

“It’ll be a very long preparation,” Klimas told Boxing Scene. “After another 12 rounds with Fury, he needs a good, long recovery.”

Klimas added that he anticipates Usyk’s next fight will fall at “the end of July, or August.”

When he steps back between the ropes the expectation is that he will fight IBF champion Daniel Dubois in an undisputed showdown, providing, of course, he is able to beat Joseph Parker on February 22.

Dubois proved no match for Usyk when they squared off in August 2023, although he did drop his adversary with a shot in the fifth round that divided fans.

Some claimed the punch, which floored Usyk for several minutes, was legal and should have been counted while others insisted it had strayed low.

The referee determined it was an illegal blow and so Usyk was given four minutes to recover before rebounding to stop Dubois in the ninth round with a stiff jab.

Dubois was branded a ‘quitter’ by several members of the boxing fraternity in the immediate aftermath after seeing out the count on one knee.

However, career-resurging victories over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua have shifted that perception.

His win over Hrgovic earned him the IBF interim belt, which was subsequently upgraded to the full world title when the major sanctioning body stripped Usyk in June.

Usyk now has the opportunity to become a two-time undisputed champion against Dubois after achieving the feat for the first time during his inaugural encounter with Fury.

Klimas believes a rematch with Dubois is the only fight left for Usyk to take in his illustrious career in order to, once and for all, put the controversy to bed.

“Would we set up a fight with Dubois if Usyk beats Fury? Absolutely,” Klimas told Boxing King Media before Usyk-Fury II.

“I don’t think anyone else is left in the heavyweight division. Right now, Daniel Dubois is the IBF champion…

“The referee gave us recovery time, and I believe any smart fighter would use that chance.

oleksandr usyk

“For many, this raised questions, and for Oleksandr, a fight with Dubois after Fury would be the ideal opportunity to show he can beat him and become the undisputed heavyweight champion a second time.”

‘Like a fart in the wind’ – Wladimir Klitschko delivers unusual Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury prediction after sharing the ring with both

Wladimir Klitschko is better placed than most to deliver a prediction on a possible Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight.

Tyson Fury put an end to Klitschko’s reign of dominance over the heavyweight division by snatching his WBA, IBF and WBO titles away from him in 2015 via unanimous decision following a remarkable 22-fight winning streak that lasted for 11 years.

Klitschko went on to activate the rematch clause in his contract but their second fight was cancelled as Fury’s mental health spiralled out of control.

While Fury took some time away from the sport, Joshua put the final nail in Klitschko’s coffin two years later by knocking him out in the 11th round of a barnburning bout.

Both Brits have gone on to become the two biggest names in the heavyweight division but as of yet their paths are yet to cross between the ropes.

However, that looks set to change this year with both men seemingly on a collision course to face each other after suffering back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

Klitscko’s opinion may have changed since he was last asked who he thought would win the all-British showdown.

#Anthony Joshua#: Tyson Fury Delivers 3 Word Message In Response To Calls For Him To Retire After Usyk Defeats

Tyson Fury suffered back-to-back defeats in 2024.

The big Brit lost his WBC Heavyweight World Title to Oleksandr Usyk in their historic undisputed contest in May and couldn’t reverse the result in their December rematch

Despite Tyson Fury remaining fiercely competitive across the 24 rounds, and in his mind doing enough to win both bouts, some in the sport have suggested that it is time for him to hang up the gloves at 36-years-old having been a two-time world champion.

The Sun reports that, in response to the retirement question, Fury said:

“It’s not over.”

What’s next could and should be a long-awaited clash with countryman Anthony Joshua. The battle of Britain has been over marinated and was once a much higher stakes affair, but still carries significant intrigue and status.

Joshua has also lost twice to Usyk and recently suffered a knockout blow at the hands of IBF World Champion Daniel Dubois after building up a run of four victories.

His team remain adamant that there are just two important fights out there – the Dubois rematch or the Fury clash. With the rematch off the table for the foreseeable given Dubois’ defence against Joseph Parker on February 22 and then, should he win, either a mandatory or a potential undisputed clash with Usyk, ‘AJ’s team are expected to aggressively pursue the Fury fight.

With the backing of Riyadh Season, finances won’t be an issue in making the fight. Where it lands is another question, with Saudi Arabia no doubt keen to stage such a monumental showdown but the natural home being Wembley Stadium.

Anthony Joshua now looks forward to facing Tyson Fury it seems destined and bound to face each other in 2025

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, two heavyweights who are currently on a losing streak and have never been more in need of each other and, as a result, have never been closer to sharing a ring.

For Joshua, in particular, there is now a willingness, closer to acceptance or resignation, to take risks in ways that he might have resisted when he was unbeaten or closer to the top of the heavyweight division.

Joshua now looks forward to facing Fury

Speaking this week in Lagos, Nigeria, where he visited President Bola Tinubu, Joshua said of a possible fight with Fury: “We’ll see if we get in the ring. Only God knows, but for me, we’ll see in the future“.

Much more revealing was what Joshua said when he spoke to State House Correspondents about the importance of making the right moves in 2025 and regaining everything he lost in 2024. “Time is of the essence, time is limited,” he said. “So I just want to work harder.

In 2024, when I look back, I think I could have done more and I have another chance in 2025 to do more.

“I will make sure I take every opportunity that comes my way. I will go again.

“Ups and downs, they happen. For some people, it’s always up. My life is up and down, so I have to get used to the turbulent times and keep surfing the wave. I can’t stop now; I have to keep going until I reach my destination.”

The beauty of being at the top, of course, is that there is always a false sense of control, both over opponents and over destiny, and it is to your agenda that others work and to your rhythm that others dance.

However, if you suffer a defeat, this is over, as Joshua, 28-4 (25), knows all too well. He has not suffered one defeat, but four in his 11-year professional career and now knows what it is like to have and lose the feeling of control.

At 35 years of age, having lost three of his last seven fights, the former heavyweight champion goes into 2025 as a man looking up at his opponents rather than down at them, and it is from this position, where it is easy to go unnoticed, that potential opponents may consider him diminished, vulnerable and ready to be conquered.

Anthony joshua

And yet, from that same position, Joshua will only be thinking about the danger it can bring and how being ruled out and therefore free of pressure might not be such a bad thing after all.

#Daniel Dubois#: Anthony Joshua targeting Tyson Fury in 2025 as he vows to box on after defeat to Daniel Dubois

Anthony Joshua is pursuing a fight with Tyson Fury in 2025 as he vows to carry on boxing after his crushing defeat to Daniel Dubois in September.

Former world heavyweight champion Joshua was knocked out in the fifth round by fellow Brit Dubois at Wembley Stadium as he suffered his fourth career loss.

However, the 35-year-old does not appear to be contemplating retirement and is hoping for a long-awaited showdown with Fury, who was recently outpointed by Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia for a second time.

“2025, I am targeting Tyson Fury,” said Joshua, on a trip to meet Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

Reflecting on the Dubois fight, he added: “Makes me hungry, makes me want to work harder. Time is of the essence, time is limited, so I just want to put in more work.

“When I look back, I believe I could have done more in 2024. I have another chance in 2025 to do more and I am going to make sure I take every opportunity that comes my way.

“I can’t stop now. I have to keep going until I reach my destination.”

Speaking to Sky Sports after Fury’s defeat to Usyk on December 21, Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, said: “It’s definitely the only fight for Fury and other than the Dubois rematch, it’s obviously the only fight for AJ.

“Has there ever been a better time? They’re both coming off defeats, both on the back end of their careers.

“One in Wembley, one in Riyadh, two fights in 2025.”
