Terence Crawford Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If He Is Now Interested In A Jaron Ennis Fight

Terence Crawford has a long line of contenders looking for a fight, not least Jaron Ennis.

The 27-year-old from Philadelphia became welterweight world champion after Crawford vacated the belts and moved up a division. Still intent on the challenge, ‘Boots’ Ennis has said he is willing to join him at super-welterweight

In a feature with The Ring Magazine, Crawford didn’t blame the younger man for calling him out, but said he gained nothing from answering.

“They’re doing the right thing calling me out. I definitely get it. But I had to work so hard to get the [big] fights I got. They ain’t done half of what I did to get to me. You want me to backtrack and forget the biggest fight in boxing – me and Canelo – to fight Boots or Vergil? What am I gaining from that?”

The four-weight world champion then compared the current Ennis situation to when he wanted to face Manny Pacquiao.

“This is like when I wanted to fight Pacquiao. I had everything to gain. I’d won multiple world titles by then and been Fighter of the Year. My record was night and day different when compared with Boots and Vergil and me and Pacquiao.

“Pacquiao was at the age where he couldn’t afford to take another loss, so fighting a guy like Terence Crawford at that point of his career wasn’t smart. I couldn’t get a Pacquiao fight even though I had multiple accomplishments, but everybody else could. I was bitter at the time, but it was a business decision. I understand now.”

Terence Crawford seems to be waiting it out for Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to respond to an offer before deciding what his next move will be. As for ‘Boots’, he defends his IBF belt against Karen Chukhadzhian – the man he beat for the interim belt last year – on November 9.
